Better than 4 stars, not quite 5
Note: This refers to the 128gb cellular model, not the 64gb wifi model.
Purchased July 2019 from Samsung online. Around Aust $500.
Replaces older Apple ipad.
Connects to Samsung tv, Samsung S8 mobile, Canon printer, Logitech keyboard, MS bluetooth mouse, Windows 10 laptop, GoPro camera, Panasonic stills camera, numerous external drives.
Brilliant ultra hi-def screen. Best on a tablet I have seen.
Excellent battery life, estimating 12-16 hours.
Premium build and appearance.
Very light, very strong, very very thin, and thin bezels.
Great connectivity with many devices. (See above)
Very little bloatware included. Lean software setup.
All the advantages of Android over iOS, including seamless file management with Windows devices.
Very good loud well defined speaker sound from 4 speakers builtin.
Not sure about the screen aspect ratio compared to an iPad. I think i prefer the iPad screen proportions for most applications, even though screen resolution, colours and brilliance is fantastic on the S5e.
There is no earphone/ earpiece socket, but a usb c convertor to 3.5mm is included to plug in headphones or earphones. So if you want to listen to audio, but cannot use bluetooth , you have to use the usb port, which can limit other activities. I havent tried connecting a usb hub to get round this problem, but the bottom line is, it needs a headphone jack.
Cost of accessories is shameful, with, for example, the proprietary keyboard selling for around $180....for a plastic keyboard without a separate Delete key ( you have to use a function key combination), and only a cramped keyboard at that. Hence i went with Logitech, which is ok, and a fraction of the price.
Not much else to criticise.
Face recognition is hit or miss, and i have trouble with the fingerprint scanner, though apparently, most people love it.
There is no electronic pen for this model, i wish there was one.
4G connectivity is excellent. I use a Vodafone sim, which sits in the tray alongside my 400gb microsd card (Samsung Evo, from Kogan)...it was cheap ($160) but it is slow, but still it manages to handle playing 4k videos with no stuttering.
So all up i have a large amount of storage as mine came with 128gb, being the cellular model, and i added 400 gb to the external storage.
6gb ram was standard on my cellular variant in Australia, and no problems there, even with multiple operations running.
Processor, no problems, everything runs smoothly.
It charges up surprisingly quickly.
I switched from iPad to Samsung mainly to use the easy file management interplay with Windows devices. It does not disappoint.
I can plug the S5e straight into my Windows 10 laptop via usb, and do massive file transfers so easily. Can't do that with Apple.
Time will tell if I come to prefer the screen aspect ratio.
