Don't make decisions for me!
I bought this TV primarily as it had the Kayo app built in as my previous device was incompatible. The picture quality is fairly good but there are several clearly visible darker areas when showing a white screen. It handles moving objects quite well, e.g. a cricket ball against grass. Can't comment on audio as this is exclusively used with a receiver.
What I don't like is that the TV makes decisions for me. This display is used with a Yamaha receiver. The receiver has input selection buttons on the front panel where DVD is HDMI input 1 and... Read more
TV (in this case a PVR) is HDMI 2, etc. The TV has other ideas. Turning on using a universal control sets the receiver to HDMI 2. The TV changes this by itself back to HDMI 1. Thus, every time I turn on the system to watch TV I have to manually set the receiver to HDMI 2. (The universal control is programed to send several HDMI 2 commands over five or more seconds but the TV always overrides. It's even worse when switching back from watching Kayo to TV. I have had the TV override my HDMI 2 command to the receiver up to SEVEN times. Once I can believe but seven times is ridiculous. None of the purported solutions on the Internet to stopping the TV automatically setting the receiver to HDMI 1 'for my convenience' work. As stated at the beginning I bought this as it had Kayo as my previous display was incompatible with Kayo. I'm glad it's built in as adding any app requires a Samsung account. I have no intention of giving Samsung any of my personal information. There is no reason Samsung needs details about me in order to let me load an app (e.g. SBS On Demand) on my TV. All in all, not a bad display but please, don't make decisions for me!Crystal clear viewing better than our Q60R Samsung
Stop press stop press updated to add - do not buy a samsung tv - I am in nz and no samsung tv supports threenow app 1 of 2 nz main tv on demand App’s no matter that’s it surprisingly great crystal clear viewing if SAMSUNG TV’s limit viewing choices , bought in NZ from Harvey Norman for Mother’s bedroom and viewing is much clearer than the Samsung we recently got (Feb 2020) for lounge which is the now discontinued QLED Q60R . All apps work on this TU8000 , Netflix , tvnz On Demand , Freeview , Apple TV and has Gallery so with iPhone app we can h... Read moreave her wallpaper displayed while off . She is using old remote from Samsung curved tv JU6600 (fantastic tv) , that pixels started dropping off after 5 years (replaced under NZ’s CGA with the disappointing QR60R) ; as she wouldn’t be able to figure out tizen remote that comes with it . Don’t use many outputs so can’t comment , sound reasonable, (no complaints from Mum so must be ok as being old , her hearing is not what it used to be)..only wish is..that I’d gone bigger next size up as this is 43” . Purchased on Black Friday sales Nov 2020 so have had a month and a few weeks .Average. The aged Sony it replaced was way better to use and better picture
I have always been a Sony TV guy. We decided to upgrade the old Sony for a bigger screen during the lockdown as we are watching more TV. I really expected a much improved picture for a 4K UHD TV.The Samsung had lots of HDMI ports but no headphone socket, no component video, and no RCA audio output, only optical digital. So no quiet listening using headphones, and no external stereo - unless you plan to upgrade to bluetooth headphones, and optical connect stereo.
The remote and screen interface takes some getting used to. It is not int... Read more
uitive. Fast channel scroll is a different button from individual channel scroll. Screen presentation is clunky and you can easily select some incorrect feature and the screen will lock up whilst it gets you connected to some external service you don't want. The remote is physically tiny. If you are dedicated user of Amazon or Netflix or one of the other limited streaming services it supports or you are an Alexia fan and wish to control your washing machine as well you might be happy. There is even a "Netflix" button on the remote control. Fortunately we have an Apple TV device and that has been great. Much better interface and much easier to use. If I could take the Samsung back and swap for a Sony I would.Details
