Great quality wired keyboard replacement for Mac
Apple stopped making their (failure-prone) wired keyboards, and I don't need the hassle or expense of a wireless keyboard (yes, I own one already). Several replacement options out there, but Satechi came to the rescue at a good price and so far has exceed my expectations.
The Satechi keyboard is almost identical to Apple's extended wired keyboard in size, design (chiclet keys with scissor action, right side number pad, etc.), and materials (aluminium frame). Fortunately, it also feels more solid and doesn't slip around the table as much as App...le's keyboard. The Satechi keyboard maybe has a bit less angle than the Apple keyboard. Keys are very responsive and IMO have the right amount of travel distance and resistance. There is no low-speed USB connector (found on underside of Apple wired keyboards). The Satechi keys are more rounded and maybe a fraction smaller than Apple's distinctly square keys. Satechi's keys have the same height for all rows, whereas the top row of Apple keys (escape, brightness, volume, etc) have less height and the bottom row (control-option-commend-space etc) has both greater height and width than other rows. Apple may be better in this regard because top row keys are used less often whereas bottom row keys are used frequently (space bar) and often in combo with other keys (e.g. command-C). In particular, the space bar is distinctly smaller (height and width) on the Satechi than the Apple keyboard. But Satechi's equal height keys hasn't been a nuisance so far. A few minor differences in keys. Satechi has dedicated "fn" keys on bottom left and right. Some of Apple's top row "fn" keys are instead dedicated functions on Satechi, including Spotlight, cut, copy, paste, Mission control, and Dashboard. The bottom row "option" keys are labeled "alt opt" so Windows users can understand the key purpose. Set-up of the Satechi keyboard was simple. The Mac's "Keyboard Setup Assistant" sensed the new keyboard and walks you through a couple of instructions (typing in a few keys) so it knows what type of keyboard you attached.
