Vacuum Cleaners Buying Guide
Our buying guide will explain which type of vacuum cleaner would suit you most, how much you can expect to pay for one, and which features are worth looking out for.
poor quality vaccum cleaner
This is the worst and most expensive vaccum cleaner ever!. It certainly is very cheaply made but it has a very EXPENSIVE price tag!, It is very heavy and difficult to manouver. This vaccum has been repaired at least once a year ever since I bought it and I only use it to vaccum 4 rugs in my house. I would never buy this vaccum cleaner ever again. poor quality and there is nothing intelligent about this item. Also the Replacement bags are very expensive.
Heavy and Pathetic
It’s the damn heaviest, bulkiest piece of rubbish vacuum cleaner there is. Hardly manoeuvres and sucks up absolutely nothing, just pushes it all around. Also a weird smell? It’s gross.
Garbage, but expensive garbage, real expensive garbage. Nearly every party crack or broken. Disgusting
Cracked quickly bags fill in no time and cost a large fortune. Now giving electric shock. Please don't buy this graphic just encourages them. Buy a cheap benelli from target. 100 dollars with warranty.
Such a waste of money!!!
My Mum and I each bought this vacuum from the local Godfery's store with what sounds like the same old sales pitch "this is the best vacuum you ever buy and will last you a lifetime, it's just like the old hoover". I'm not sure what they call a lifetime, but I certainly don't call 5-6 years a lifetime. My Mum has always struggled to pull the vacuum around with her arthritis and has hardly used her machine because of this. She now uses a Dyson stick vac and wasted her money buying the Sauber. Mum's Sauber has a broken swivel wheel. There ar...e quite a few broken parts on my Sauber - the resting place on the side of the machine, the cord doesn't retract without help, and the handle on the hose that powers the power head. I have also noticed the funky smell other reviewers have mentioned. Mum and I have taken advantage of the lifetime capped servicing but last year the sales guy tried to sell me a new vacuum due to me being so unhappy with with Sauber. Uh no, for a $1580 machine, I would like it to last more than 5 years thank you. The power head has now stopped working altogether after 6 months of working on and off. My husband took it to another Godfrey's store today and we have had to purchase a new hose/handle for $150 and the sales guy there advised we would need to replace the power head in the next 2 years for another $300, but it would be better to do it now given parts are becoming harder to buy.... yet another sales pitch! The sales guy also tried to sell my husband another new vacuum cleaner for another $1300. I'm just a tad over paying big bucks for rubbish products! Not to mention this Sauber has been painful to drag around the house and has ruined my skirting boards and door frame corners as it doesn't maneuver very well. At first I liked how well the Sauber suctioned and cleaned my carpets, but it certainly doesn't now. I didn't enjoy having to switch the vacuum head for the carpet and tiled areas so ended up using the power head all the time. I have also had problems with the Sauber rolling over during use. Overall I'm am not satisfied with my Sauber vacuum cleaner and feel it has been money wasted!
GREAT SUCTION, BUT HOUSING LITERALLY FALLS APART. EXPENSIVE TO FIX.
Like everyone else, I was in LOVE with the suction power when I first brought my sauber home. The suction was SO impressive, that I was able to excuse how “awkward” the machine was to physically maneuver, and the strong ‘musty’ smell it created. Unit itself is very heavy and swivel wheel broke off after only 3 weeks. Took back to Godfreys, they happily replaced it, no questions asked. This scenario repeated 4 times. It was almost a “joke” with the staff and I. About 2years after purchasing, we bought a house that was completely tiled, so the go...od suction element became redundant. We packed the Sauber away, thinking we may need it in the future. 2 yrs later we were doing a big clean out and decided to sell the sauber, to recoup some of the $1700 we’d spent on it. We originally asked for $900, but only got the occasional interest, with one buyer pulling out after reading a bad review. We packed it back up and decided to trade it in to Godfreys, when we were ready to buy a new vacuum. No good.. Godfreys offered us $300 trade in, or $500 if we upgraded to the latest Sauber. Not interested, we decided to sell it privately, and declined. Cut to today, I’ve posted it on a local site for $200, taking into consideration it is an older model, with a broken swivel wheel and housing on buttons fell apart when I pulled it out of storage. I’ve taped it back on, and it doesn’t affect the use in any way. Buyer messaged me an hour ago, wanting to pick it up, so went and got it out of the storage box. It fell apart!!!! Almost every bit of plastic on it has cracked/crumbled?!?!?!? Have attached photos. Will never buy/recommend this product ever again. Considering even going to the media, as $1700 for such poor quality is a master scam!!! All other parts on sauber are virtually brand new! You would think that I had thrown this unit from a moving vehicle, by the photos... Not sat in in a storage box!!

Bit clumsy and gets smelly
We don't have many carpets. Has good suction but smells not sure why but not nice. I have 2 small dogs but i do not know how to stop vacuum from having smell.
Purchased in August 2013 at Godfreys for $1,600.00.
Extremely dissatisfied with this ridiculously expensive vacuum
Purchased this just over 5 years ago from Godfrey's. I thought with it costing so much and being serviced every year it would last for many years but it only took 5 years for it to stop working. Just passed the 5 year warranty! And that's with regular annual service and extra $ spent on changing filters, etc. Not only that but it's so heavy and bulky to use. Massive regrets for having purchased it. Now we've bought a Dyson and are much happier.
Ideal for a business, not so good for home use
The Sauber Intelligence Vacuum cleaner is a well engineered powerful cleaner unit. Perfect for an open plan office or business premises. But for use in the average home it becomes heavy and difficult to control around furniture and moving from room to room. The connecting hose tends to disengage unless extreme care is taken to ensure connectivity before using. The showroom demonstration was very thorough but conducted on a flat open carpeted floor with no obstacles which was very misleading. Again, no fault of or with the cleaner, it just did n...ot show how difficult it would be to use in a home cleaning condition. The Sauber Intelligence cleaner is a powerful heavy-duty industrial cleaner and will give excellent service in that type of environment but be sure you have large open spaces to use it in your home.
Great vacuum, quiet in its operation, good suction. Love the different heads and its capacity. It also has a good cord length. It doesn't maneuver quite as well as my old vacuum, but I am sure I will get used to that.
Best vacuum ever!! 10x better than a dyson . Gets all the dog hair up from carpets.. FANTASTIC- new bagless option
10x better than a Dyson
Expensive but worth every $$ spent ..
I brought mine 2nd hand & saved over $1000+
Life time Servicing - @ Godfrey’s
great machine- so quiet as well . Great for carpets with motion light up head.. & turn light off for hard floors & tiles
Purchased in December 2018 for $250.00.
Polished floors and carpet, plastic has nearly all broken off. Price to repair at last service was ridiculous.
Does vacuum well but disappointed in body longevity.
Cumbersome in small rooms and hose can be inflexible.
Purchased in January 2014 for $1,700.00.
Half a star
Do not purchase. Bought my Sauber in 2012, absolutely loved it, the suction is second to none. Then it started literally falling apart. The cord wouldn't pull out, the housing started falling off, wheels not turning, then.finally wouldn't even turn on! Took it back, basically told I'm to rough lol,( I'm not at all) bit more demanding, and got a replacement.
Happy days. Not. Go to use it recently and the vacume cleaner head falls apart. Brittle as anything. The wheels don't turn, that I could put up with as it still sucked fine. But I sort of ...
Purchased in April 2012 for $1,600.00.
Vacuum is falling apart
Since we have purchased the vacuum new it has gradually fallen apart. From the plastic wheels, to the plastic casing, to the electronic handle and buttons. This vacuum is not durable.
Purchased in June 2012.
Bought this vacuum Dec 2012. Paid $1700. My partner is an asthmatic so this vacuum sounded perfect. We were told it was the ultimate vacuum - premium quality, 10 years servicing. So you think awesome..its going to last for at least 10 years! Sadly it started falling apart year 4..first a wheel from the head..then another..and another. Then the handpiece electronic cover started lifting exposing electrics..hose kinking so it blocks itself..the units facing literally just fell off one day. $700 to repair - its just wear and tear they reckon! Its ...a crap product. Its NOT quality at all. My cheaper vacuums never lost a wheel or fell apart! Usage it was ok - quite clunky, suction was great but had to go through a process to override the not so smart “smart” feature and it tended to roll over alot. Never again will i buy from Godfreys.
Purchased in December 2012 for $1,700.00.
Biggist piece of crap I've bought...
Bought my Sauber second hand (thankfully!) thinking this was an amazing vaccum...however, problems since day one; powerhead kept turning itself off intemittantly. Then recently the vaccum lost power and shut down with the overheating light coming on. Since then it makes a weird sound when turned on, and has lost all its power. Seems I'm not the only one with this exact issue and I'm also dismayed to learn that others have had terrible repairs from Godfreys!! Nervous to take it in for repair - will definately test it before taking it away from any 'repairs'. For the money these vacuums should be far more reliable. Glad I didnt pay anywhere near full price for this crappy unreliable piece of 'machinery'.

I bought this vacuum cleaner for $1,700 just over five years ago and thought I would have it for life. This cost included 10 years of service. Since I've had it, it has had a tendency to clog. It stopped working completely a week ago and, as I have only used half of my 10 years of service, I thought Sauber would fix it. No, I took it back to Godfreys in Sydney and the cost of repair was nearly $200. I told them to put it in the garbage bin, where it belongs. It is rubbish and I feel so cheated that I paid so much for a product that I believed would last me for a long time.
what a load of rubbish
We got this machine just over 5 years ago, we are retired people and live in a 3 x 2 house with tiled floors carpet in 3 bedrooms only, this extremely expensive vacuum has spent more time in saubers workshop than we have time to use it, for $1549.00 is the biggest piece of rubbish I have ever owned, june 2018 goes to workshop for repairs come back I use back at my home still not working same problem send back to them again " repairman comments when machine returned ( I found the machine was working fine but noticed 240 plug was broken ? replac...ed plug hopefully that will fix the problem ) wrong comes back AGAIN still the same goes back a 3rd time for repair ( they don't test there work ever ) January 2019 machine cutting out again send to workshop they claim the main motor has blown up yet with out the power head it works perfectly replace the main motor they said ? at our cost $221.95, March 12th send machine back to sauber cutting out AGAIN we are told main motor in power head is blown up ( but still works on and off ? ) replace motor $38.45 get machine back STILL the same as before cutting out not working send back to sauber and told them where to stick the machine, I spoke to the Sauber manager for Perth he didn't like me telling him what a load of rubbish his machine was never offered and help support in anyway what so ever my over all dealing with this company is lower than a used postage stamp and will NEVER BUY ANYTHING AGAIN FROM THEM " EVER "
Heavy and difficult to manoeuvre.
I only use the vacuum on carpet on which it does a good job. I use a visualiser and am always impressed with the amount of pet hair it picks up. I use a different vacuum on tiles. I have found this vacuum to be way too heavy and hard to manoeuvre. The non kink hose kinks and will eventually be useless. I cannot solve the problem of the terrible smell it has. Admittedly we have a dog but the vacuum should not smell. I have changed the filter, the bag (though I use the visualiser) and have put the smelly sachet in. You should not have to ...mask an odour but find the cause. It still smells and I am not happy. If you pay a lot for a vacuum you expect results. Our visualiser came apart and could not be fixed. Two screws only were required but the technician said it was irreparable. Great, another $149 to replace it. I am actually sorry I did replace it as I hate using the vacuum and have bought a Dyson. All I can say this vacuum is expensive and does not perform as expected.
This machine is way overpriced
Yes this machine is clumsy around furniture and tips over easily. Does not vacuum on all surfaces. After I’ve vacuumed It leaves stuff behind. Worst appliance I’ve ever bought. I have a 10 hall runner and it doesn’t vacuum up the runner only across it so you need to put it in an open area to vacuum across it this is ridiculous a power head should work no matter what

Questions & Answers
The release button on my handle is stuck so I cant remove the telescopic pole to use crevice tools. Does anyone know how to disassemble the handle please? Please dont suggest taking it to Godfreys, I'm NEVER taking the machine back there.
We do not recommend taking the handle apart yourself.
The button is located on the rod not the handle.
Godfreys are our certified repair agents.
The Sauber Team
Ok thanks. Sorry, I do realise that. I should have asked how do i get the button apart? My Vacuum is out of warranty. I have had repeated bad experiences with this vacuum and Godfreys, hence why I refuse to take the vacuum cleaner back. They don't check & fix things properly. While under warranty they just used "bandaid" fixes every time it broke down when they should have replaced the machine...As soon as it expired they happily swap perfectly good parts and charge for new. When questioned what was wrong with the old part they basically say "we dont know, you said there was a problem so we didn't test it, we just swapped the entire part...and a few others for good measure...that will be $700 please"....!! (I exaggerate but you get the point). As such, please advise how to get the button apart. Godfreys are not trustworthy imho.
We are sorry to hear of your past experiences.
Unfortunately there is no way to take it apart without breaking it, it comes as part of the rod.

When I turn my machine on, the display panel remains dead and the motor does not start. I have checked the relevant power point, and it is functioning with other devices. What should I do?
