Sennheiser Amperior has a decent sound stage and forward sound signature
Had a good audition of the Sennheiser HD25 Amperior edition today. It is pretty much the same as HD25 with aluminium casing rather than plastic. There is much to like about these headphones. Given its aluminium housing, it feels very solid, heavier than its plastic cousin. Because of the split headbands, and adequate clamping force, they do not feel heavy on the head but very comfortable.
Given the small size of the drivers, I am impressed with its sound stage. My other headphones are Shure SRH-940 - circumaural type headphones with larger 40...mm drivers and much bigger ear cups. The Shure has noticeably bigger sound stage and better noise isolation capabilities, which should be expected. Sennheiser HD25 are over the ear (superaural) headphones. With smaller drivers, the noise isolation is limited but adequate depending on your listening level. Frequency response is relatively flat slightly heavy on treble. It rolls off pretty quickly after 100Hz but does really well all the way from 1kHz to 100Hz, perhaps slightly exaggerated towards mid-low bass. Therefore, the bass feels more than adequate. The sound signature of Sennheiser HD25 is bright, forward and articulate, good for clarity. Vocal does sound a little analytical pushing a little to the harsh side. It is not the sweetest sounding headphones I have ever listened to, like my Shure SRH-940. Albeit its bright sound signature, there is an significant dip round about 4-5kHz. Gamers and and sound folks who require clarity, good imaging, and use it a lot for dialog, would love these headphones. Audiophile might not like the dip at 5kHz. Consumers might find it a little tiresome over long listening sessions at high volume because of the spike in treble. Like HD25, I don't really like the little cables that connect to the driver. Feel like they are going to get caught and break. Why can't they be hidden inside the headband? Given the price of the Amperior version is twice the price of the standard HD25. I was hoping for a little bit more bass extension and hope that high frequencies were tuned to be a little more lay back. I love vocal and really missed the sweetness that I know is possible. This is the reason for 3 stars.
Purchased in January 2017.
Amazing sound every time
These headphones are the best ones I have ever used. They provide everything you could want in a headphone - they work perfectly for DJing in loud places with some sound proofing ability. Their EQ levels are also great with so much bass coming through them. The only downfall is the wiring from the cord to the speaker itself - the wire can get loose making either headphone lose connection to the sound until the wire is moved around a little - making it difficult to complete a task (such as mixing) quickly when the wire needs to be moved until you can hear properly.
25 years as a professional location sound recordist these are the best
I’ve worked a location sound recordist for more than 25 years and tried every type of headphones over the years and each time I come back to these, they are by far the best you can get. The key factor with these is they are repairable, you break a cable, you unplug the old one and plug in a new one ( for around $25 ) the ear pads do fray and fall apart after heavy use ( for me 18 months of daily use - 8/10 hours a day ) but again, replacement ones are cheap and easy to get but always stick with the genuine sennheiser ones they last longer for the sake of a few dollars.
These headphones hands down will last for years and sound fantastic.
These are the perfect headphones I couldn't recommend them more. The sound quality is great. They are comfortable to wear. The two band adjustable system makes them easy to wear and keep on your head, even when out and about which is a problem I have had with larger over-ear headphones. I truly recommend these, especially for the price point.
Perfect headphones for all types of music the clarity and natural response of these headphones make it ideal for studio use as well as leisure use I have two pairs of these so much better than any other headphones on the market and for the price you won't regret purchasing a pair.
best headphones I owned yet!
The last 2 brand's of head phones I bought were sol republic and beats by Dre these headphones hands down blow the others put of the ball park.
The sound quality is incredible must heat for yourself.
The other part I love about these headphones is how incredibly light they are.
The only down side if your looking for a pair with noise cancellation these probably are not for you and this is probably one reason they are not so bulky like the others.
Good sound and lightweight
Price was decent for what you get. Sound quality is good and has decent bass. The cord does limit accessibility but it a good length. Good headphones and can adjust the size of them, sadly they are a little too big for me, but that doesn't alter their performance at all.
Headphones expose never before heard nuances
Bought these for the express purposes of video editing and monitoring while recording professional quality audio. They have provided some of the nuances in any previously recorded audio that would have never been picked up by any typical run of the mill headphones that call themselves studio headphones. Been using them with my iMac while editing, and recording on my Roland Edirol R-44 field mixer for recording onset professional audio for film. The headphones feel über comfortable, to say the least.
A great set of headphones
After a friends glowing review of these headphones on Facebook i decided i need a new pair myself. I did my research and they seemed pretty good. Some reviews said they were a little tight which made me wonder about comfit. They are really not that comfortable. They sound great but they are just too tight and press too hard on the ear. Its not just my large head either my 8 year old son finds them un-comphy also.
Tip- Not a good choice if you want headphones for chilling out. (Movies)
I can see why they are highly used by DJ's they are perfe...
Although they haven't made my spine chill yet, i'm pretty happy with them especially after making the switch to velour ear pads which have significantly reduced the clamping force associated with these headphones. However, as a result, the isolation is slightly reduced.
These are highly portable. Sometimes when they're on my neck, I barely notice they're existence.
These headphones don't offer much in terms of aesthetics but can be easily customized in many ways since it's easy to disassemble.
makes you feel pro
the cost to replace certain parts can be pretty costy....
On Ear headphones with fantastic isolation capabilities
These headphones are the closest you will get to iem's for sound isolation on the go. Sound quality is superb. Clear high's and mids, with nice punchy (but not overpowering) bass with no muddying of sound. The headphones may seem tight at first but they are actually quite comfortable on the ears. The HD-25's are excellent unamped straight from my Samsung Galaxy S2 and other Mp3 devices such as the iphone. I can only imagine how insane these must sound if amped!
Lightweight, excellent sound, great isolation from the outside environment
Outstanding sound, excellent isolation
Don't be fooled by how unassuming these headphones look - their sound is outstanding.
I recently went on a mission to find the best closed-back headphones I could get my hands on. Something that would sound amazing and not leak noise out others nearby.
I tried the Allen & Heath Xone, other top DJ headphones from Sony and Pioneer, but the sound from these was more true and rounded (in my opinion). Being an on-ear headphone, they have EXCELLENT isolation, but are slightly less comfortable for long listening periods than over-ear headphones....outstanding sound, great isolation, lightweight, sounds great from ipod or iphone - no separate amp needed, excellent for office environments or high-noise environments dosn't collapse (right earpiece swivels but that's it), on-ear design isn't quite as comfortable as an over-ear design
