Will never buy sharp again
I bought a sharp microwave oven R395YS pulled it out of the box placed it on the bench and found the bottom legs were uneven took it back got the same one again, came home turned it on and the turn table wasn't turning freely. Packed it up took it back and replaced it with a panasonic NN-ST680S.
So far so good fingers crossed. What ever happened to quality control before leaving the factory?
Great value at a great price!
I bought this microwave after only finding one review that descrbed it as 'noisy'. I've had it for a few months now and I needn't have worried as It's just as good as my previous Sharp Carousel, and It's not noisy at all! With It's stainless steel finish it looks very sleek and modern. Its very easy to use and great for heating and defrosting. If you are serious about microwave cooking, you may want to purchase the larger model. The only problem I found was that with It's first few uses, the keypad was a little stiff, but it didnt take long for...that to come right. I have always been a big fan of Sharp products as I have not had one fail me yet. My previous microwave was replaced because my son put something metal inside it. Other than that we have either still got our Sharp products, or we have simply updated them. I recommend this for the price bracket, and I hope to get as many years from it as i did my previous Sharp Carousel. Reliable, inexpensive, sleek and modern in design Keypad a little stiff for the first few uses
Check appliance review before deciding on this microwave
We bought this about 2 years ago. It was reasonably priced and we thought it would do the job that is required by a microwave oven. But after 3 months, it wasn't heating at all. So under the warranty we got it fixed. Then just after the warranty (the extended one which we bought), the same problem happened again. Brought it back to the repairer, we were recommended to claim for a new one as the parts to repair would cost more than buying a new one.
Unfortunately, warranty expired the week before the microwave broke. So,couldn't do much about...it and we dumped the machine! For it to have the same problem twice in it's lifetime, we definitely didn't get what we paid for. Before you get any microwave, check it review and see how others like it. A bit of research can save a lot of hassle in future. The functions were good. Easy to operate. The heating component failed twice within 2 years. Product is definitely inferior to other microwave ovens of its similar range and value.

Know better, choose better.
Will never buy from Sharp again.
Sharp has the worst customer care I have ever dealt with. I was disgusted to have to wait 2 months for my microwave to be repaired by sharp after it blew up within 3 months of owning it. Even after I explained that I had just had a baby and how hard it would be to drive 35 mins each way to drop the microwave off and pick it up from repair, there was no help offered or even care given. In short, bad service, unreliable product and next time I will be going to kmart and purchasing a cheap microwave from there.
Everything that could go wrong has gone wrong with it.
Great looking unit and easy to use.
I have had the R290NS for 8 years and for the last 2 years have had to use it with a blank display. Eventhough the keys still work, I have had to guess what's on the display by learning the functions off by heart. I haven't bothered to replace the display/keypad as the cost outweighs the benefit. I have been waiting for the unit to die but is still going strong despite the display problems and more recently unresponsive keypad issues.
Style. Simplicity. Reliable cooking.
Unreliable keypad and display.
Noisy, bit of a lemon!
My previous experience with Sharp products has been excellent, unfortunately this experience has not extended to cover this "noise machine".
We have found the Sharp to be quite noisy and ineffective in heating food. The protective plastic on the keypad has peeled away in only 8 months and two buttons now only work intermittently. Half of the LCD panel doesn't not function correctly either.
I am in the process of negotiating a replacement from HN as I am two months outside of the 12 month warranty.
I wouldn't recommend this particular...model, however do look at other Sharp microwaves, as previously mentioned this is the only dud Sharp I have encountered. Inexpensive, contemporary design easy to use functions Noisy, keypad hard to use and prone to failure
