Burnt out door frame
Very disappointed with my Sharp microwave. It lasted two years but door frame burnt earlier than that with all the same problems listed by other reviewers. Have had other Sharp microwaves which worked well for many years but now I will try another brand. It did not cook well and burnt rice.
Ours is 2 years old. It did has twice burnt and sparked, damaging the door's seal, melting some of the door's plastic and burnt the coating of the frame back to bare metal. Why does this happen? Why is there no recall notice? I have been happy with previous Sharp microwave ovens. I am very disappointed with this defect / danger.
This rubbish is killing my marriage
Bought a R350YW 2 years ago from Chatswood Chase,the oven arced out only after 1 week. We found burn marks on both the sealing surface of the door and the main body , the paint has burnt off and melted a part of the door. But the oven still works so we did not get it repaired. Only from last week did I suddenly begin to worry about the microwave leakage but my wife refused to get it repaired because she did not want to be charged with money. In the manual you can find "don't operate the oven when burn marks on the door seal faces". So I want to throw it to the bin but my wife insists using it. We have been quarreling on it...
I bought this microwave about 18 months ago with my parents as a housewarming present, so it's currently 6 months out of warrantee (typical). Anyway the side part of the interior caught on fire. If my housemate hadn't caught it straight away it could have burnt our unit down. I'm incredibly angry and frustrated.
The item had a faulty in two months after purchase
I purchased the above product from Good Guys Cranbourne store and it had a faulty after about 7 weeks and did not work. It was not replaced and took for a repair. Now it is more than two weeks and not yet ready. It is obvious that Sharp does not care how the customer suffer with out microwave such a long time.
Dangerous product that should be recalled, potential fire hazard
We have had this microwave for less then 4 months, the oven has started arcing out and fills the kitchen with smoke. We found burn marks on the internal body at the bottom near the centre, the paint has burnt off and melted a part of the door. Reading other reviews Sharp you have an obvious problem and need to do something before someone has a serious fire.
To add to the insult I tried to contact Sharp but there own website is down.
The door is burnt badly- 3cm- on the bottom middle section of the door and the metal on the interior base of microwave. Have only had the microwave for about 5 months, very disappointing.

We had the microwave oven for less than a week, and the was a burnt mark on the door.
We choose this model as it was under $200 at David Jones and a reputable brand.
Not sure what the warranty is and if i should exchange or go for a different brand any suggestions.
after 19 days the display has gone bananas showing all lcds This replaced the older model had for twelve years

Dangerous defect and poor customer service
Just a couple of weeks before the end of our 12 month warranty, I took our microwave to an approved Sharp repairer. Some of the paint had lifted from the body of the microwave and stuck to the door revealing the metal. We didn't realise for awhile, but every time we were using the microwave, the exposed metal caused arcing. This is a potentially dangerous situation which could have led to a fire or worse.
It has now been 3 weeks and the approved repairer is STILL waiting for a decision from Sharp. They sent an email, a followup email, a pho...ne call but they left a message because the wait time on the customer service line is incredibly bad - which has not been returned. I even called the customer service line and stuck it out only to be told that an email would be forwarded on and that it would be followed up. And they had no idea how long it would take or what would happen next. From what I could make out, our case hasn't even been looked at but it wasn’t clear as I don’t think the Sharp customer rep on the phone knew either. That was three days ago and not a whisper. I have always bought Sharp microwaves in the past (for at least 20 years). No more. The poor quality of the workmanship is disturbing. And what appalling customer service! I don't even know what is happening! I cannot recommend the product or the company. It was a good size. The workmanship was dangerously poor. Bad customer service.
Not working after 6 months with poor customer service
Our Inverter door would not open after 5 months and 13 days. It is still under warranty, but we have to send it in to be fixed, and oh dear, the repairer will only be available within 8 days. Customer complaints also took 8 days to respond and then even had our address wrong - wrong town and State.
I will never buy another Sharp. How confident should we be if it breaks after just 5 months and Sharp is not willing to replace it? There is also no guarantee that the product will be fixed the same day - that is if I can get someone to actually ...tell me where to take it. Customer service is the worst. When I replied to the complaints department to say that they were just an odd 9 hours wrong with my address I did not get any response. That is really helpful to know where my nearest customer service centre is. Based on how they treat customers afterwards as well as sitting with a microwave having problems after a few months, I will never buy a Sharp product ever again. Dead after 2 years, expected more
I have just been told by my local appliance repair shop that the 'inverter board' has gone on my R350YW and it is 2 years old so of course it is out of warranty and too expensive to repair. I found it very interesting to discover here that others have had the same problem. I have had 3 Sharp microwaves (prior to this one) since the mid-80s and each one has lasted 8-10 years. I expect more than 2 years out of a product like this and am faced with a dilemma as to what to replace it with. Having read these reviews and seen that a Sharp representat...ive was concerned enough to offer assistance I thought I would try calling Sharp customer care to see if they were interested in my case also. However after being on hold for quite a while and spun the usual line that it is out of warranty but I can take it somewhere and pay a fee for them to look at it and then they will consider whether I have an 'out of warranty' case, I was then cut off and had to call again and explain my story to someone else and got the same response, as such I have declined to take it further. I have always liked Sharp microwave ovens, in particular the 'logic' used in setting the time and power, as well as the sensor cook technology. Sadly I will have to learn to use a new brand, as I cannot have faith in a product that dies after 2 years. It had all the features I required and sensor cooking worked well The inverter died after 2 years
Dead after 18 months
I have had 3 sharp microwaves in 20 years, my mum had one that lasted that long, my first lasted 10 years the second lasted a few years this one 18months not good enough!! yep bought the inverter with sensor just like my last one but a newer model, I don't know if it's these sensor microwaves.... but they just don't last I would expect one to last 4-5 years for the $'s spent so that is my last sharp microwave, never again! very disappointed.

Don't buy this!!!
This only lasted 18 months - it cost us $180! What a disappointment! We bought this also because of the inverter sensor for even cooking but this was no better than our old microwave which did not have the inverter sensor. When I contacted Sharp I was told it only had a 12 month warranty, see you later!
