Extremely Noisy Fridge
I purchased this fridge in February 2013. In just under two years of having purchased the fridge it has become extremely noisy. I have called for assistance however there are no Sharp approved service centres in my area - central Sydney. After speaking to a couple of other refrigerator repairers I was told that it is likely that I need a new compressor, but not worth following through with given the repair costs versus the amount paid for the fridge - $1,156. The fridge is so noisy that family and friends have asked what the strange noise is wh...en speaking with them on the phone. I can hear it from outside my apartment, and I need to sleep with my bedroom door closed, otherwise it keeps me awake. Very disappointing given everything else about the fridge is satisfactory, e.g. size, butterfly doors and bottom mount.
Stuck with a fridge that does not work
Fridge is less then 10 months old. Never over filled or miss treated. Has a over freezing fault that completely burns all the food in the freezer and does not cool any items in the refrigerator. After calling sharp and being put on hold for half an hour they tell me to call my local sharp dealer that is a 30 minute drive. Only for the dealer to tell me they won't come to my suburb as it is to far. ( the suburb is actually closer to metro then the dealer ). So I'm now stuck with a fridge that doesn't work.
Good First Impression - Excellent Quality & Design
I purchased this fridge/freezer without having seen it 'in the flesh', just photos. A brave move perhaps but it was the biggest one that was going to fit the space. I have not been disappointed. It has a quality feel to it, you can set the exact temperature of both the fridge and freezer sections (and it gets nice and cold in the fridge unlike some other makes). It is very quiet and makes good use of its internal space. It gets rid of its heat not through the back but through its sides which was new to me (I know a lot of fridges do it that way...now) - it is certainly seems to be an efficient way of doing it. The most suprising thing is its extremely clever door system that allows you to open it from either side - it effectively unhinges itself on the side you choose to open. The result is that when you shut it re-attaches itself whith quite a heavy clunk. At first I was not sure if I liked that, but after a very short time the 'solid' feel of the close gives it a sense of solidity and quality and I actually rather like the heavy close now. It is really suprising just how useful it is to be able to open the door from either side, You wouldn't think so, but it is. It is slightly disconcerting as when you open the door from the opposite side things in the door have effectively swapped relative position. My only concern is if this extremely clever door system will stand the test of time. Quiet, Effcient, Quality with an extremely clever door system. Nothing yet - but will the clever door system stand up to years of use? Time will tell!
