A fantastic umbrella and a fantastic company!
We purchased a Lynden umbrella from Shelta in November 2019. We purchased from them because we had read so many reviews about cheaper umbrellas and how many had broken in a matter of months. We wanted a good quality product and Shelta's reputation preceded it for that. The umbrella has been fantastic. Sturdy, strong, reliable and it makes our outside space really usable (because otherwise, the sun is just too strong to sit out).
We went to use the umbrella a few weekends ago and the umbrella would not rotate (as it is designed to do). We cont...acted Shelta and I was told that the rotate bearing had gone. Our product was out of warranty. The customer service I received from George at Shelta was fantastic. He explained the issue and said as a gesture of goodwill because the umbrella was not long out of warranty, he would provide the part at wholesale price. The part arrived in the mail a few days later, and it is easy for us to replace. I got an email this morning saying that George had spoken to his operations manager and they had decided as a gesture of goodwill to replace the part free of charge. I was very pleased to receive that email. So, in summary, the quality of the product is great! And when there was an issue, Shelta sorted it out straight away. Great company!
Poor umbrella repairs.
Shelta Repairs made sure I had the right part. George guided me by telling me what indentification photographs to email. Quick and efficient to deal with. Goods arrived next day.
Outstanding customer service!
I would thoroughly recommend Shelta and their spare parts division to potential customers as they know what I am very pleased with the outstanding service provided by Shelta's spare parts division. I ordered on a Thursday afternoon and received the goods on Monday, from Sydney to Brisbane. Under promising and over delivering - excellent in these days of slack service. George from spares was very helpful in identifying the correct model, even though we purchased it some 10-15 years ago. Very easy to assemble. Customer service is!!. Bob, Bribie Island.
Five star customer service
This was the best customer service I have received in a long time, thank you George. Answered emails promptly, helped me find the item I was wanting to replace, paid pm Thursday and the item was at my door the following afternoon.
Great customer service. Going the extra mile
Ordered a spare part online (rotate bearing) but I ordered the wrong model. Called Shelta and they kindly offered to swap it for the correct part and do the drop and pick up for free! Great customer service. Responding fast to emails and phone enquiry. Also have two of their umbrellas (Savannah) and they have been fantastic for us. Well built and well worth the investment
An 4 mtr Octagonal outdoors shade umbrella I purchased about 15 years ago (maybe longer) suffered a broken rib when being opened. I rang Shelta Parts and Repairs in western Sydney and spoke to George re repair. He was very helpful, establishing that the still had some stock of the ribs required for repair. I dropped the umbrella off at the repair department. George was there. He inspected the damage, said it could be repaired, gave me a quote, which I accepted, and said it would be repaired within days. It was.
It was delivered to my address within a a couple of days.
The service I received was, in all, a rather a pleasant experience. Courteous, professional and prompt.
Well done Shelta and your staff.
Worst customer service ever
What was perceived to be a high quality umbrella broke well within the warranty period after only been used a a handful of times. Shelta no longer have an office in Victoria, so getting any resolution was almost impossible. The retailer we bought the umbrella from did everything they could, but it still took Shelta 3 months to agree to have the umbrella repaired. I would NOT recommend buying a Shelta product.
No instructions - makes for a lousy customer experience
I'm not going to bother rating the cover I bought. This is the second time I have purchased a Shelta product. And the second time there is no instruction manual. There won't be a third opportunity. It's not an acceptable customer experience when you have to guess how the damn thing works or how to assemble it.
Shelta Umbrella Stainless Steel and Granite Base
Purchased Shelta stainless steel and granite base.
The Photo attached is 9 months outdoors.
The base is 'stainless' steel yet is coated in lacquer from the manufacturer to protect it, but it has still rusted within 9 months outdoors. The photos show the base and handle.
Can not recommend this base as it has not lasted even one year before looking quite rusted. Very low quality stainless steel.
The Product is high quality, The Customer service team are 1st class
We have had a Harbour Umbrella on our balcony for 10 years, eventually the canvas cover wore out and needed replacing. I ordered a replacement cover, which did not fit the older frame, so George and Brad in the repairs section invented a unique extension for the 4 metal wings of the frame and posted them up to me within a couple of days and results were perfect. The whole team that I dealt with at Shelta, including Kylie, were extremely helpful and efficient and we look forward to many more years of enjoyment using these high-quality products from SHELTA Australia.
Thank you team
Great service !!
I purchased a Shelta Outdoor Umbrella and the 4 section water filled base. Upon assembling the base and filling then with water, I noticed that one of the base sections had a tiny pinhole and was leaking water. I contacted my place of purchase who in turn contacted Shelta, and within an hour I had Shelta on the phone asking my address to send me a new section, of course - no charge. That’s what I call Customer Service. Thanks Again.
Neat and super compact umbrella
I bought a Shelta umbrella as it would have to be the most compact umbrella on the market and fits neatly in a handbag. It’s also very lightweight and dries quickly.
My umbrella cover fell apart. No replacement provided.
I called Shelta to a replacement. I never heard back from them. Not worthwhile spending money on their umbrellas as no customer service exists in my opinion. Shops told me that replacement covers are available, but when I asked them to get one they did not assist either. I was not able to get a replacement cover. I will need to find a brand who offers me customer service, also after sales service.
Resin Wicker outdoor chairs
Buyer beware ... read the swing ticket smaller print carefully before making your selection ... unlike what I did! I bought eight comfortable SHELTA resin wicker chairs for outdoors some seven years ago at considerable expense with the intention of keeping them for many years. The chairs have had very limited use. The swing ticket states prominently that they are OUTDOOR furniture. To me, OUTDOORS means OUTDOORS, as in not under cover. However it is not until one reads the inside of the swing ticket that it is obvious that they may only be used...consistently outdoors if there is very limited contact with the sun. The salesperson unfortunately did not alert me to this fact. Mine were on a covered deck; however the sun shines onto the deck. The resin wicker on the horizontal surfaces on four of the chairs (at this stage) has not only split, but on the top of the backrests, it has also shrunk up to three centimetres in length. Shelta suggested gluing the sections together; however with three centimetres of wicker missing, this is not a possibility. Incidentally, I am told by Shelta that in excess of 23,000 of this particular chair have been sold, and that if there were any faults, the company would have known prior to this. I guess I am the only person to have made the inappropriate decision to buy these chairs for my unsuitable situation. SHELTA's website also does little to indicate that the chairs must have very limited contact with sunshine. Two images display resin wicker chairs clearly out in the open. This seems to be misleading advertising. Be wary of these website images.
Bad customer service
The canopy for my 3.5 cantilevered umbrella perished in the sun after a few years and when I contacted Shelta to see if I could buy a replacement, they said they no longer made that canopy anymore, but might be able to retro-fit it to one of their newer models, IF it measured the same in a certain area. It didn't, so they said they cannot help. I asked them if they could tell me where I could find another canopy from a similar company or where I could go to get help after spending so much money with them and I have had no reply. I mean, this wa...s a $2000 outdoor umbrella that is cemented into my patio, so can't be removed easily and they zero options to help? Do they not think that customers would want to buy replacement canopies after they fade or tear over the years? No forethought at all it seems. I've had no reply since, which I find very rude. I would never buy anything from them again.
Disgusting warranty repair
I purchased a Savannah umbrella from an outdoor furniture company and after 11 months it snapped. Waited 4 months for repair and the local service company has told me that they were sent the wrong replacement part 3 times.
This is apparently a very common problem with Shelta and its very poor after sales service and support.
Outdoor dining chairs breaking down after normal usage outdoors
We bought a beautiful 7 piece outdoor dining suite for our deck area. It has the modified timber look slats on the chairs. This modified wood is supposed to be made especially for our Australian harsh summers. After only two years, nearly all the slats are breaking and cracking when we sit on the chairs. I spoke to their customer service team member who said I could buy replacement slats for $ 15 each. I don't believe that a $1000 dining suite, made for our harsh weather, should be breaking down after such a short time. I asked them to provide...the slats free of charge but they refused. They seem to know that the modified timber really doesn't last as long as it should, otherwise they wouldn't be on selling slats for $15 each....... Obviously this modified timber is not made for our harsh summers.
Excellent after sales service
I purchased a Vancouver umbrella from Havey Norman in Noosaville ,after a few months use I had problems with it,and reported it to Havey Norman, who contacted Shelta the manufacturer, both were were very professional and understanding of the handling of my problem ,both Shelta and Havey Norman went out of there way to correct the problem,I couldn’t speak more highly of both companies
Couldn't get worse.
After skin cancer operation I've decided to buy 50+ Shelta umbrella from Cancer Council store. Turned out to be the worst umbrella I'd ever had. Unbelievable. The $5 variety stores umbrellas are much better quality than this one, and for the hefty price of $35 too. Well, never again obviously.
Don't buy the Outdoor Umbrellas and Base.
Product is crap and expensive. Customer service is worse.
I purchased two Padua umbrellas from Heat and Grill in Richmond, Melbourne, Victoria.
These are supposed to be the top of the line outdoor umbrellas. They don't even have ties so when they are down they flap about in the wind and tip over. The base was recommended because it's the heaviest. It allows so much movement the umbrella blows over. I called them and emailed them and was told they would send out a strap to tied up the umbrella with and a new shaft for the base. Which they...
Warning....Don't Buy the Outdoor Hazel Octagonal Umbrella
We live in Cairns, and purchased the 2.7m Hazel Octagonal Outdoor umbrella in 2016 and after 16 months - the fabric is literally disintegrating! This has now happened twice now - the first time it happened, it was within the 12 mth warranty so we were able to return it and be given a replacement., Now the second one is falling apart, so we will NEVER buy another Shelta outdoor umbrella again. The fabric is just rubbish and does not withstand the weather, even though we always collapsed it when it rained. It looks good when it's new, but with a 'shelf life' of just over 12 months, it's hardly worth the money! Buy another more sturdy and durable brand!
I brought this fold up sun umbrella to help protect me from the sun me whilst out and about, trouble is they are not sturdy and blow inside out with the slightest puff of wind. So really of no use especially walking along a beachfront as you are fighting it the whole time to keep it from blowing inside out.
An excellent product
Our 2.7-metre Shelta bought from The Outdoor Furniture Specialists (which they market as the Hazel) survived its first Adelaide summer with flying colours. Unlike a cheap umbrella that I had bought from a hardware chain but promptly returned because it was rubbish, the Hazel has a solid, all-aluminium pole and frame, a sturdy winding mechanism and clever tilt function. The taupe-coloured canopy looks good and provides excellent shade. I'd never buy a black one because, while it might look sexy, black absorbs heat, which in an umbrella is counter-productive. Also, we always furl our umbrella after every use and slip a protective cover on it. It's an inexpensive way to protect the fabric and prolong the umbrella's life.
Shelter - Poor shading loose Olefin weave.
The Shelta 3.3m Octagonal umbrella in black looked great in the showroom but once out in the sun it was hot to sit under and the sunlight could easily be felt and one was left squinting as there was so much light beaming through. This was a $400 umbrella and we expected much better from Shelta which is commonly found in a lot of outdoor retailers. The umbrella also featured a nice tilt feature but the glare from the sun easily undid any benefits. We also noticed that in the breeze it could tend to wobble about due to clearance in the joint of t...he two pole system. The much touted Olefin material for improved longevity speaks for little if the basic premise of keeping the sun off you is not met! Perhaps Shelta has or their fabric supplier has driven down the cost so much by manufacturing a weave so loose that they have done themselves a disservice. We returned the umbrella back to the retailer and after much fuss in the shop we took a $50 hit to return it. Basically I would rate the fabric " not fit for purpose" ,it was so bad that our old polyester wooden umbrella of 9yrs (also Black) stopped more sunlight. One would wonder if this material really meets its claimed ratings? Buyer beware - take this one out in the sun before committing.
Shelta short lifespan
It seems Shelta is the dominant brand in Sydney. I was not pleased with a past experience with Shelta but was talked into another 3 units, a Seville 4.0m timber centre-pole Jan2012 and 2 Chelsea 3.5 cantilevers Oct2014. The Saville was discarded May2016 because the canvas rotted at frayed at the crest, and as we removed it from the stand the centre post broke as it was apparent that it too had rotted because the base has no drain hole and it soaked in water. A Chelsea unit failed to wind at 4 months. Shelta took a week to respond to my call, bu...t in the meantime the retailer collected it. It was returned in working order after 4 weeks, but looked like it has slid around on a truck floor with little paint left, perhaps not of Shelta’s doing but indicative of the service. I will get sunburned and wet before I buy this brand again.
