Best value small saw
If you're in the market for a small but reliable saw, forget Stihl and Husqvarna, especially their crap homeowner saws...but even their pro saws below 50cc. The 390sx is a pro saw from Shindaiwa, 38.4cc and is Made in Japan and is the best value in this segment.
High torque for its 40cc class and very light weight (4.5kg), it comes with Oregon SpeedCut narrow kerf chain (Made in Canada), beware the 501sx and non-pro 451s both come with Chinese Oregon chain that belongs in the bin...for crying out loud make sure you go buy a proper Stihl chain ...to go with any of those. It doesn't come with the aluminium Oregon SpeedCut bar that's Made in China but rather a stronger laminated steel Sugihara bar from Japan (all Shindaiwa saws use some type of decent Sugihara bar). For my use case, I prefer a stronger bar. A minor downside is it only has a rubber anti-vibe system, and this model is equipped with a cat inside the muffler (the 501sx doesn't have a cat for whatever reason). Overall this is a great pro level saw that is sadly overlooked by everyone buying into a brand name rather than actual quality products.
Purchased in August 2020.
