The best tools you can buy
I have had Sidchrome tools for over 30 years now and hands down these are the best quality tools you can buy bar none. They are not the most expensive, but there are the best tools.
I have used them on everything from bulldozers to the kids bikes never had an issue.
3/8 drive warranty claim
I’m one of those older people who brought sidchrome “back in the day” the local tool store would not honour a defunct ratchet. After much deliberation contacted them directly, after exchanging some information and supporting evidence. I was furnished with a new tool. Don’t trust the retailers advice.
Customer service don't even answer the phones.
I waited on phone for 20 minute to only be cut off. I called again and selected #9. Noanswer again.
make no mistake the Sidchrome lifetime guarantee is no worth a pinch of crap. When the tools were made in Australia they were the best tools you could buy and the guarantee was rook solid but after they were bought out by Stanley that was the end of Sidchrome quality, you cant even replace your tools with a genuine Australian make tools unless you find one second hand somewhere. I had to replace three sockets in my 3/4 " socket set , which I ordered trough Tools Direct, not only did they look totally different but they were three mil higher ...than the original sockets which make it difficult to close the socket tin lid. My advice to anyone looking to buy tools would be to buy Kinchrome tools they're not Australian made but they're better than what you ll get from Sidchrome.
I bought a set of sidcrome screwdrivers they are the most useless things I own can't use them on most screws because the nose is to pointed they cost me $129.00 for a set of 6 wish I had not bought this product on one of the screwdrivers the tip was broken off this is a complete waste of money and had to go and buy other screwdrivers so buyers be warned
Quality tools by sidchrome
Working as a mechanic I have various tools make by sidchrome and have never had any issues with the and they come with the piece of mind of lifetime guarantee.
Sidchrome warranty? what warranty?
Sidchrome owned by B&D USA & made "not in Australia"and they need to see the tool by posting tool to Head Office if you don't have the 2012 receipt (??) before a going into the draw to have it replaced. Bought Asian spanner as replacement ( probably where Sidchrome comes from now) off EBay for less that the postage back to Sidchrome. B& D have same sort of reviews in US. They also make Stanley tools if you want to dodge buying from B&D altogether
Screwdrivers are a bit rubbish
I grew up with the bulletproof sidchrome gear as a kid, and about 5 years ago I thought I'd get myself a quality screwdriver set that will outlast me, so naturally when I saw a sidchrome set with striking cap, through tang, square shaft and acetate handle I bought it straight away.
The handles are reasonably comfortable, there is good weight to the drivers and they feel very solidly built. Unfortunately when it comes to the business end, the tips are just total rubbish. The fit for the Phillips drivers are poor and the tips are showing a lot o...f wear with my light use. I started to notice wear after just a dozen or so screws. I got so frustrated that I bought some Japanese screwdrivers. These have done 10x the work and they show less wear, don't cam out and fit the Phillips screws much better. They work so much better that these sidchromes just sit in a drawer untouched. Overall if you want a set that looks like the real deal to put on your shelf, these are great. If you want to turn screws though, these are about on par with the cheapest drivers on the market, but not much better.
I had bought a $1000 dollar wall kit some years ago and 2 large socket sets, 2x failed Rachets and Pliers and was told i abused them. Utter bull!. i was using the so called bullet proof tools for their intended purpose, never again will i buy this crap that supposed to have a "lifetime warranty". Customer service is so bad , id give them zero stars if i could.
Warranty not worth much...
Sad to see poor quality being compounded with poor customer service. I contacted sidchrome as the plastic tray that holds the sockets in my socket set (a few months old only) had completely cracked and fell apart. All I wanted was a replacement tray.
Was told that the warranty didn't cover consumable parts like the tray. Asked if I could buy another tray, if it was a consumable. Was told no, they don't sell the trays by themselves. So, not a consumable then...
The only plus side: the agent I dealt with, [name removed], seemed to genuinely want to help me out, but was ham strung by management.
Sidchrome warranty is useless. Sidchrome claims of warranty are false.
I am 60 years old & have bought sidchrome tools all my working life, however never again.
Failed toolbox drawer after little use & have been trying to claim a repair since June 2018 (its now October) & they just give me the run around after runaround. Useless! One thing I've noticed is Sidchrome quaility has dropped significantly over the past few years. Sidchrome is nothing like the company they used to be. Avoid Sidchrome, there are better quality brands out there.
Warranty is useless.
I purchased a very expensive wall mounted Sidchrome tool set quite a few years ago because of their advertised "Lifetime Warranty".
The tools are of good quality being Australian made and have had very little use.
I recently had one of the sockets fail, it may have been the first time it was used as the tools are not used for trade purposes, just for home use. I contacted Sidchrome through the contact form on their website to inquire as to whether the socket was covered by the warranty or considered a consumable item but never received a ...reply. I then attempted to contact them through their listed warranty enqiries email address, this bounced back after a few days with a message saying the address was not active. I then contacted them through their Facebook page and after a few days received a reply to address all enqiries through their inactive warranty email address. If an inquiry about the warranty status of a $5 (their cost) socket is too hard for them to handle I would hate to see their handling of a warranty claim on a high value tool.
Very Poor After-Market Service
I have emailed Sidchrome three times trying to purchase locking mechanisms for their tool cabinets so that one key will lock/unlock all cabinets. The first few emails went unanswered so I upped the frequency and finally got a response telling me that lock smiths can't cut their keys (not even close to what I asked for). I gave them make and models for the cabinets I owned and the key numbers for each. Nada.
For what was a hugely reputable tool brand, the response seems way out of character. Here's to hoping I get escalated to someone who actually has a clue!
