We bought this freestanding stove especially for myself as I bake cakes, biscuits etc & use my oven at least every day or more. We purchased the stove a bit over 18 months ago & I've been disappointed since day one. My oven temperature burns the cakes etc on the bottom if not watched REALLY closely. The cooking is uneven some parts of brown, say with a roast lamb, while other parts not at all. In the beginning I had someone out twice to look at it, but the problem remained. Today was the last straw, my biscuits were in for exactly the same amount of time & one burned & the other were so pale, but would have burned on the bottom if left longer.
Purchased in September 2018 for A$2,712.00.
Dodgy oven clock - onto our 3rd clock in 6 years!
We bought the oven brand new 6 years ago.
Since then, we’ve replaced our oven clock twice (both times out of warranty), costing us $550 each time, including the technician’s time and expertise (note the technician we recently used was recommended by Smeg & the clock itself costs $420). If it was simply a broken clock, we wouldn’t care or bother to fix it, but since you can’t use the oven without the clock working, we have had to fix it. Most recently, the oven broke a week before Xmas but the technician wasn’t available until today (the 28th...December). Not particularly helpful when hosting Christmas. In addition, a heating element broke a couple of years ago (again requiring a technician to fix it & again out of warranty, so costing more money). At the time of fixing, the technician told us that our thermostat was 20 degrees out, which we had sort of figured out because it kept burning everything when we first started using it. We didn’t fix this though because of the additional expense to do so & we can at least adjust the temperature. On a minor note, the hinge on the storage compartment door has broken and one of the plastic knobs for the stovetop has also chipped. I am extremely disappointed with the quality of the product and the resulting expense to have parts replaced. I would not recommend this product to a friend.

Dodgy oven clock will cost you at least $99 to reset (instructions in manual don't work)
In January 2016, I bought a 700mm Smeg C7GMXA8 electric oven with gas cooktop.
About 4 months after purchase, we had to reset the clock after power to the house was interrupted to do some work. (We had turned it off and on at the switchboard.) I followed the instructions in the Smeg manual (section 7.7.1 "On the first use, or after a power failure...") but nothing worked.
Smeg sent a technician out who said the solution was actually simple but not in the Smeg manual. It involved a series of steps that I unfortunately can't remember now. ...The technician also told me that the clocks were cheap and not great quality. He'd brought a replacement clock along with him but hadn't needed to use it. I was not charged for his service, I figured because of the warranty (but was told recently that it was because they were being kind to me). Anyway, some 18 months later, I'm still within the 24 month warranty period and once again we had to turn the mains power on and off (to install an air con this time). Once again the clock needs to be reset so I called Smeg, hoping someone could give me some simple directions just over the phone. I spoke to two different women who did not offer any technical advice. Instead I was told that I'd be charged a $99 call-out fee including the first 15 minutes of service but then I'd be up for more money for any additional time spent by the technician. Smeg said it would not charge me for another clock though, if required.
Smeg still #1 for cooking fabulous food
Still can't beat Smeg's fan forced cooking and its ability to keep anything moist no matter how much you cook it!
I love the telescopic trays that roll out with just a slight touch making it safe to pull out/check on your food
Dials are not only elegant but also nice and easy to read; not overly complicated and you don't have to keep referring to the manual for cryptic icon's and their meanings.
It cooks, but has been disappointing.
CONS: Like other reviewers have posted, I need to leave the oven door ajar for a few minutes after lighting otherwise the flame goes out. This is an inconvenience in our small kitchen and not great with children around.
I was surprised to find just one oven rack inside when there are 4 rack guides. I did contact smeg after our installation and when advised of the cost of 'extra' racks I nearly fell over. There was no offer of a freebie and no reply to my second e/mail when I asked for one. Disappointing - as this prevents you from utilising th...
OK, not a perfect experience
This is my fourth Smeg upright stove within ten years (I move and renovate a lot). This is the second gas/gas version I've had although the first 700mm wide size. As per the others I'm happy overall with these appliances. They look fabulous, I particularly love the knobs, and they are generally well featured for the price. This 700mm wide model was no exception. I'll probably buy another in the future.
As per other reviews the oven isn't much wider than a 600mm wide version. Really just think of it as having the benefit of a fifth burn...er on the cooktop and you will not be disappointed. Mine also requires the oven door to be left ajar for a few minutes after igniting the oven to ensure the flame doesn't extinguish itself. This is fine once you are used to it, but was a surprise to start with. Likewise the timer which I found out from Smeg requires it to be 'wound up' before setting it ... otherwise mine wouldn't actually progress (and the timer is vague in its settings). My oven only came with one oven shelf, which seems utterly miserable given the point of fan forced ovens is that you can cook multiple items on different levels. More annoying, and costly, was the lack of supply of a gas regulator even though the installation instructions say this is included. I wish my retailer, Spartan Electrical, had advised me of this when I ordered it. As it was it was my gas plumber who discovered there was no regulator which meant additional charge for the regulator plus his time in driving to acquire one on the day. An email to Smeg and Spartan Electrical has only had them blaming each other for this and I'm still out of pocket months later.
Could have been better.
Loved the gas cooktop and electric oven combination. However, on one of the burners, the flame does not stay on. Apparently this is a comon issue and a technician call out will be required. Another common problem is the clock display. Parts of the clock display does not light up.
Easy to clean
Hassle to ring for technician to fix problems
All gas but electric grill
Oven only 4cm bigger than my old 600. 5 rings and space to rest pots/ dishes from oven is excellent. Love the combination of gas oven with the electric grill to brown up Roasts or get good crackling but you can only do this for an hour. Agree with other review about the lighting of the rings and stove. Simple with only 4 options for the oven and high or low for gas rings. Plastic legs disappointing and I don't feel they are as stable as metal.
Well made and designed
Plastic legs and smaller oven than expected.
Good for our space
I looked for a gas oven that would fit our kitchen rebuild. 900mm was too big so this Smeg at 700mm is a good fit. Oven size is not the full width so is not much bigger than what you would find in some 600mm ovens. Gas hobs are great and the top is easy to clean even if milk has boiled over - I am guilty of this and glad the stainless top is easy to wipe. You need to check that the gas oven is alight and stays alight - I leave the door ajar for 30 secs and this seems to be the key.
Easy to clean top, good controls, gas oven to save on electricity, good range of hob burners.
