Appalling product, now leaking everywhere!
Appalling design and quality.
Yes it looks good, as do all SMEG products, but now both our very expensive SMEG Kettle + our even more expensive SMEG Range cooker have developed unacceptable faults after just a few months of normal everyday use. The Range fails to light, and the seals have all broken around the edges of the oven.
The Kettle is far too heavy, made of cheap materials on the base, and worst of all is now leaking boiling water all over our kitchen after just a few months of light use.
SMEG customer services have refused to d...o anything about it, beyond offering to give us a nominal discount on an identical, badly designed kettle. Not only that, they didn't even have the decency to respond to our issues in person - all we ever received was an automated message which barely made reference to the actual problem. It's a real shame, SMEG used to be a good company with high quality products and exemplary customer service. Sadly it seems that they have moved away from this, and into a world of charging the same extortionate prices for badly made and poorly designed products, backed up by zero customer service when the inevitable happens and the products fail. Another company bites the dust...
Smeg kettle leaking
We purchased the cream kettle and toaster. They both look great and the toaster works fine.
In the last month we have discovered major leaking from the base of the kettle.
It seems that there is a fault in this design as several other reviews state the same thing.
We are severely disappointed and have gone back to our Breville kettle which is still going strong after 11 years!
We are also doing a major kitchen upgrade and were looking at the Smeg Portofino stove and range hood, reflecting on the quality of the kettle and the price paid, we're reluctant to commit to any other Smeg purchases.
Purchased in August 2018 at Harvey Norman for $190.00.
Smeg kettle leaking
We love our smeg kettle but have just noticed it is leaking from the window and the paint and chrome is starting to bubble.
It has us thinking twice about purchasing other smeg products considering the price.
Poor design and manufacture
Purchased kettle about 2 years ago the pop up lid started to play up about 6 months ago and has now broken altogether. We thought we were getting a quality product at that price but in reality the materials used in the lid mechanism were not of the standard required.
The first Smeg appliance and possibly the last :(
I purchased this kettle last week after great amount of research. They were lots of bad comments but I was so driven by the look that I said to myself that won’t happen to me, that my kettle will not have any of the faults I read about it. Anyhow, it’s not all bad they few good things about this kettle. I will start with the bad:
1. It’s very expensive and it’s not Worthing the money for what is offering.
2. The lid top system is somehow faulty, it doesn’t open straight away when pushing the button, you have to push few (lots of) times and qui...

Stylish and Great quality
This is a wonderful electric kettle of Smeg. Very functional and I love the style! Does a great job, when makes an awesome cup of tea and boil water, water and tea comes out smoothly even at the highest setting. If you like a decorative stuff as well as multi-purpose gadget at your kitchen area, it must a good choice.

Expected something a lot better
A lot of money to boil water. It looks great. And that's when the designers packed up and went home. At $200 I expected quiet operation. It's not loud but no different than my previous $60 kettle. When your pouring the boiled water, steam comes back on your hand and it's not comfortable. Wouldn't that be the number one design no no? The water level indicator is on the back of the kettle in line with the handle so when your filling it, and holding that handle, it's not easy to see what level you're at. It looks good though.

Lovely to look at but very heavy!
Lovely, simple & functional. The only downside is the weight, even completely empty it’s very heavy! Lifting it full actually requires 2 hands, the few people who have lifted it recently at my place have said the same. I just don’t understand why it’s sooooo heavy hahaha
Purchased at Myer for $175.00.
Great product but noisy and heavy
Love this kettle. It looks great and does as designed. The only issue I have found is that it is very heavy. Much heavier than my old breville kettle. Wouldn’t recommend to anyone with weak wrists. it’s also a bit louder than our previous kettle but not that big a deal.
In general happy with the kettles performance.
Purchased at Harvey Norman.
Kettle is not made of a high quality. Laminate has bubbled up!
The kettle isn’t too bad to use but within a few months we noticed that the laminate on the kettle began to form a bubble. It looks really ugly and to be honest from a good brand like smeg, we didn’t expect it to happen.

My favourite kitchen appliance
I get so many comments on this beautiful kettle that I bought the toaster too. Happy I paid the extra for the SMEG brand, and hope to keep adding to my range.

I always wanted it
I finally moved into my new apartment and i just bought my new kettle! I always wanted it for my kitchen, it looks so classy, and i think no other brand beats it. I AM being extremely careful with the surface as i am afraid it may scratch. The button is soft and no sound but yesterday i noticed it popped open when i needed another new pot of water when the kettle is so hot, no sure if its designed that way, will keep an eye on it

Looks great, sturdy, beautiful to display on counter
Was in the market for a new kettle after having a Variable kettle. I wanted a kettle which not only looked lovely sitting on my kitchen bench but also matched my black kitchenaid. I came across this Smeg kettle which matched perfectly.
It is a later model so doesn't have the issue of peeling letters (which I had read about when doing my research). The letters on the kettle are made of metal on this model.
When you turn the kettle on, it has a little blue light behind the lever telling you its on and is boiling. Boils quite fast and not ...too loudly. Its simple to use. Its a slightly heavier kettle than my last one but its mainly because of the solid build. Feels sturdy in the hand and its just beautiful. The only thing about having a black kettle is that you need to 'dust' it occasionally as you can see dust easier than having a silver/whilte one for example.
Time will tell
I have just purchased this kettle and it appears all great. I saw with similar products (different colours) there were some complaints of fading and other small issues over time but it seems that also the after purchase customer service is excellent; at least from the comments. I will look forward to seeing how it holds up over time which is often what you really want to know when getting more expensive appliances and will report back (if memory holds).
Edit: It is now December 2020 after purchasing this in October 2018. As of this moment the kettle is still in good repair and am still happy with the product.
