Responsive Cooktop Controls
I recently moved to a new apartment, which had a Smeg ceramic cooktop. Having previously had a Bosch Induction cooktop, I found it hard to accept the relatively slow response when changing heat settings. I find 600mm cooktops to be a bit tight when using a couple of pots & a large frying pan at the same time. My Bosch cooktop was 700mm wide, but was made to fit a 600mm cooktop bench cutout. It appears that Bosch no longer make that size, so after some googling, I found the 700mm Smeg SA173. This is exclusive to Harvey Norman.
The first thing t...hat I noticed was how much more responsive the touch controls are especially compared to my previous Bosch cooktop. The cooktop has separate sliders for each element (3) & this is much better than some cooktops which have only one temperature control & a selector to choose the element being adjusted. These can be adjusted by sliding you finger left or right or can be touched with a finger tip on the desired setting, great for quick setting changes. Tapping the highest setting '9' at the right hand end of the slider turns on the 'boost' setting which applies extra power when you need a quick, short term increase in temperature. Great for boiling water etc. in a hurry. My old Bosch cooktop changed settings if you wiped it with a damp cloth, while cooking, which made it a pain when wiping up spills or spatters during cooking. The SA173 is not affected by damp cloths, making mopping up while cooking a breeze! The cooktop cleans up really easily with a soapy wettex, followed by wiping with a dry cloth to remove any streaks. I am very happy with the Smeg SA173 Induction cooktop & would recommend it for the extra real estate it provides over a 600mm size cooktop.
