DSC-RX10 Mk4 - Finally a worthy replacement for my old DSC-F828!
I've had my Sony F828 digital since 2004, eventually had electronic problems with the original and picked up a replacement on TradeMe for $NZ100. Used it extensively for field work, landscapes, panoramas, even published a book on Central Otago using images from it. However the time comes when new must replace old and when I read the specs of the RX10 Mk4, decided to investigate purchase. No, its not a lightweight camera, but it has a super long range 24-600mm equivalent F2.4-4 zoom Carl Zeiss lens and a 20MP 1"-type stacked BSI-CMOS sensor. ...My preference was for a compact DSC camera with fixed lens, that packs speed, AF ability and lens reach into a convenient package, not to mention 4K video, at reasonable cost. Sourcing it via a trade electronic supplier ensured the latter and thus-far I have been impressed with its performance and professional camera qualities. Sure, some grizzle about the Sony menu system, but realistically one shouldnt have to delve in there all the time once the initial setup has been done. As DPReview.com has concluded: The Sony RX10 IV is the most wholly capable all-in-one camera package money can buy. No camera is perfect, but this one ticks pretty much all of my boxes so should see me happy for a long time.
