Excellent and compact
I use these a lot in aircraft travel. The overall plane engine and air noise is reduced by about 30%. This is great for the in-flight entertainment system becasue the volume can be set to a normal level to hear. Also the sounds of those screaming kiddies is consideably reduced. Single AAA Battery life is ages and ages. I keep a spare in the pouch.
The plug is designed for aircraft sockets but is also adaptable for standard 6mm stereo. There is an easy on/off switch and I actually use these sometimes just in my ear turned on to reduce noise. ...Very confortable and unlike the bulky big headphones, you can trun your head or nod off to sleep. I think the big headphone type like BOse work better on the noise but the price and bulkiness to me is not worth it. Prices vary so look around. Compact, effective, long battery life.. did I say compact!! The cord is a pain. It tangles so pack it up carefully. Ideally a retractable cable like those Chinese USB cables you get on Ebay would be good product improvement
Good Earphones with Noise Cancelling
I use my earphones when riding the bus to and from work each day and was getting concerned that I had to turn the volume up too high to get over the ambient noise of the engine, etc. So I splashed out and bought these and am glad that I did.
Sony provides different size rubber tips so you can choose the right ones for your ears. I was surprised how much difference the sizes made.
Even with noise cancelling turned off, these earphones provide a good fit and reduce the outside noise substantially. Turning NC on, improves it further.
All up, happy with these and I would buy them again.
Cheaper than alternatives, comfortable, reduces noise well
A microphone for phone use would be nice
Superb Sound Quality, Comfortable, Satisfactory Noise Cancelling, Sturdy Look and Feel
I like to listen to music whenever I exercise with my indoor rowing machine (C2). My Audio Technica and Beyerdynamic both had excellent sound but they feel bulky and uncomfortable especially when I start sweating. I’ve been wanting to get an in –ear cans but was worried about sound quality. All this time I had doubts whether an in ear can replicate the solid bass, pleasant mids and rich highs of the AT and Beyer. I also wanted a noise cancelling function when I’m on the plane, train or bus. I was looking at the Shure, Etymotic and Audio Tech ra...nge of in-ears but was put down by the price and the uncertainty if the product will suit my needs. There is no audio store I know of that allows testing of in-ears before buying them. A month ago Dick Smith advertised the MDR-NC13 at 50% off. I somehow took a gamble and bought one on-line. My bet paid off as not only did I like the SQ, it was comparable to my pricey ATH-M50 and Beyer COP. The bass is not muddy although the M50 and COP were more refined with superior sound stage. The mids and highs were also excellent with the highs not too sibilant and just right. The NC function is not as effective as the full over ears (e.g. Monster Inspiration) which I have trialled at stores but it does reduce the low level humming associated with droning noise on the plane, train or even office aircon to a very low level. The silicon ear buds are comfortable to wear. I forget that I’m wearing them sometimes and are the key to the unit’s effectiveness in its NC function and pleasing SQ reproduction. Use the wrong sized earbuds and you ruin everything. The NC functionality would be drastically reduced if I utilise the medium or small earbuds. This explains why there is a lot of negative feedback on Amazon on its NC function. I feel sorry for users who have not fully explored the headphones full functionality and then go out and publish bad comments. Battery life at 100 hours is also a bonus. My only qualms about the headphone is its spontaneous ability to tangle its cables because of the way it is designed – uneven length for left and right cable which can’t be looped or wrap around easily. I have used the headphones for almost 2 months now and sometimes wonder what took so long for me to decide. I am happy with the product, given that it is made by Sony and that this company has produced quality audio products for decades. Only time will tell how long this headphone will last but I am gentle with it and will not complain if it lasts for 2 years. Good sound quality. Satisfactory NC function. Good battery life. Comfortable for use. Cheaper than its counterparts even at full price. Sound output diminishes when NC is turned on but SQ does not deteriorate. Cable tangles easily.
