Having been a southern customer for 5 years have been trying to get my 91 year old mother onto one of the advertised plans in the brochure managed to get through on the no on the brochure once in 4 weeks and was told I had to have my mother authorise me to do it, I live 30 mins away and can never get on at her house she is unable to do this herself thinking of changing phone co my self as if I had any problems it would be useless. Very frustrating.
November 10th 2017 Update: Once again disappointed with Southern Phone Service
I was very u...pset to receive an $11 overdue payment fee after 5 years of perfect record of payment an oversight happened as Southern Phone sent my mothers account to me which I have requested they do not do, and this is where the confusion happened. A friendly reminder might have been nice obviously they do not value their long term customers.

Been with southern phone for a few years now on a bundled plan( land line and mobile). I decided we didn't need landline anymore as we never use it only left it connected for aging parents to ring us instead of mobile phone costs . So rang southern phone wanting to cancel landline and change mobile phone to sim only plan. yes they said ,no problem they said. Asked if would have any problem with mobile being disconnected whilst it was changing plans No problem they said it wont be disconnected.
So days later landline phone has been disconnecte...
My friend has his landline with Southern Phones. Every month he is paying up to $50 a month for long distance calls he hasn't made. When I called customer service, I was told it was not possible that it was a crossed line and that my friend must be mistaken. In the meantime he is on a limited income and has been consistently overcharged for months. Crap service, not recommended.
The Sevice has Evaporated.... Forget Southern
I have been with these people since they first kicked off... and worked in Local Government so I know they put their profits back into the community. BUT the call centre performance and queue wait time has dragged them down to levels that any reasonable person would consider a dead loss. I suggest that you outsource to India, Sri Lanka, the Phillipines or some other low-cost tele-marketing rich location, because those guys are right up your alley.I am out of contract later this year and will be gone, never to return.

I have been with Southern Phone for a fixed line service since 2013. I have always paid by the due date. In April , due to an oversight,I was 3 days late paying. Next bill I was charged a $11 late payment fee ( nearly 25% of the phone bill).
A good company gone bad.
After over 10 years with Southern Phone finally enough is enough. Whats sad is that they were once very good but sadly they have now lost the plot. I have, over the last few days waited in endless cues, had emails not answered and given up. Today i finally got through to the live chat and cancelled everything. Beware if you are thinking of signing up with them in there current state as you will be very dissapointed.
Terrible customer service - worst ever service provider!
My elderly 82 year old aunt on Central Coast is still awaiting a landline phone connection from another provider to Southern Phone...very nice to initially deal with in signing up - but since then disastrous service - connection process taken almost two weeks she is without any phone communication with her family all in Sydney - 2 hours away! We are unable to contact her and when I tried to help on her behalf through internet - sales person disconnected me without any help because he couldn't be bothered to help....second sales person answered...my question within a minute...however that was a week ago...my aunt is now still waiting for a phone connection....like Lynden I've been attempting to help my elderly aunt to no avail...I too wish I'd read these reviews and told my aunt not to sign up!! This is now a safety concern on well-being of my elderly aunt who is uncontactable for almost two weeks...shame on you Southern Phone.
BAD BUSINESS PRACTICE TURNS ME TOWARDS ANOTHER COMPANY
We have recently moved from Gippsland to Tura beach, placed an order for the phone to be put on 9th April. This company has not even bothered to contact us. I have an illness and need the phone service now. Have waited and waited for them to reply. HAVE HEARD NOTHING FROM THIS BUSINESS!!!
Disgusting service from a company.
We have never had such a negative annoying situation with a company like this before. Are they going out of business, if they're not, they soon will be by treating customers like this.

Still awaiting a connection after signing up 90 year old Mum to change from Telstra in mid January. Help line frequently engaged. Emails requesting help generate a ticket, but so far 4 emails- no reply. Multiple phone calls to help line met with someone will ring us back with information on the progress of our changeover, but this never happens. Told yesterday it could take another 4 weeks, Copper network to be turned off in 4 days. Despite knowing Mum is legally blind and will be left without a phone, no consultant cares or offers anything ot...her than we'll call you back when we have more answers. When insisted (politely)we be put through to someone who could help, phone call was terminated by staff. Don't be fooled by the customer care promises on the website. Yes, their call centre is staffed by Australians, but that makes no difference to their inability to resolve problems. Best look elsewhere.

Terrible, Unreliable, Very Expensive, Pathetic Customer Service, NOT WORTH ANY STAR.
DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY.
I was over-charged for calls using my mobile, when Southern Phone would not fix the fault to my Land Line. My Land Line had a fault which was not repaired for 18 DAYS, leaving me without a phone over Christmas! Their Invoice was incorrect, including a charge for the NON-EXISTENT RENTALS of a phone from Southern Phone, and an incorrect, MORE EXPENSIVE MONTHLY PLAN, than what I had agreed upon.
Customer Service is absolutely pathetic, often requiring a WAIT PERIOD 20 MINUTES and more.
