Spend a fortune and the spend some more
You spend a fortune on the watch and then get a phone subscription only to find out you then have another 6$ a month to pay for a subscription to space talk. The watch was big and heavy and so it was uncomfortable. It was also a very difficult sell to my daughter because there was nothing in it for her. No games, no camera and no apps. In the end it was more like one of those leg tags they put on prisoners to keep them house bound.
It was not clear you have to pay a monthly subscription on top of a phone plan to use
Funny that if you look at the company's extensive review page on their website the reviews look nothing like the profile of reviews here. Could not believe that you get through the set up to learn that if you do not pay them $5.99 per month on top of what you have to pay for a phone plan then you cant use the phone. Really ! The kid will barely get full use of a phone plan and you have to pay a subscription on top? The functionality of the watch is awful and the sound is bad
Wet space talk ???
My son has had a Spacetalk for 4 months, of which three have been transferred to technical service. Both times the same problem, neither charging nor turning on. The first time JB Hifi had it repaired and a month later they returned it working. After two days of use the same problem, I wear it again and after a month they call me that the watch is wet, which is completely false. I think that to charge the cost of the repair to the client they wet it and that's it.
After talking to a Spacetalk operator and explaining the situation to her withou...t reaching any agreement, she decides to have her manager call me. The same, that it is wet and that is not covered by the guarantee. It offers me a special discount on a repaired one. I am going to contact a lawyer even if it costs me a lot more money and I am going to report them. Please do not buy Spacetalk
Terrible battery life
My little one got the watch as a birthday gift from the grandparents but the battery life is terrible. Can’t even last a full day with very limited talking time. Disappointed given the price!
After Vivofit Jr, I was underwhelmed
I bought my son a Spacetalk to replace his Vivofit Jr because we wanted to be able to contact him. It works well at its main function: an easy-to-use wrist-worn phone. But as a kids' smartwatch, it doesn't meet the standard.
The first thing we noticed was the lack of a countdown timer. That had been one of the features of the Vivofit that our son had used most. Given that this very simple tool for managing music practice or screen time is present in many of the Spacetalk's competitors, it strikes me as a thoughtless oversight.
In addition, th...e SOS button is much too easy to press accidentally--so it's probably a good thing that the "calls everyone on the emergency contact list" thing doesn't actually proceed as promised once one of the calls is "answered" by a machine or voicemail. But the biggest problem is that the designers of the Spacetalk have made no attempt at all to make it water-resistant. My son forgot to take it off before going into the bath; the watch received a very brief dunk--a fraction of a second--before he realised that he was still wearing it and took it off. And that was it: the thing was ruined. After sitting it in rice overnight did nothing, we opened up the backplate to look at the damage. It was soaked through, but--astonishingly--there wasn't even a token strip of sealing around the edge of the backplate. The designers haven't made the slightest effort to make it able to withstand even the most predictable bit of mistreatment from a child. Smartwatches made for adults can withstand a splash or two, and I would have expected that a kid's smartwatch would be designed to be more durable than an adult's. A Spacetalk rep replied to a previous reviewer with, "We understand that being a children’s device, it may not always be possible to monitor the exposure to liquid the device experiences"... so why does the design of the device itself not reflect that understanding? And a fun story: I received an email from Spacetalk asking me to leave a review on their website, and I clicked the provided link and arrived at a page that gave me no option of leaving a review. After searching fruitlessly for a way to leave my own review, I read through the existing reviews and noted that they seemed oddly repetitive, hitting the same beats and re-using the same phrases, almost as if the reviewers were all working from the same set of templates. The vast, vast majority of those reviews were five-star, and none of those reviewers seems to have had any of the issues described by low-star reviews on productreview.com.au.
Very solid product
Has been really good, band has just broken which is disappointing, but only if I can’t replace it. Easy to change settings on and super handy to stay in touch with our 9yo
Not being able to call
Hello, I am having a problem. My son could call me but I am not able to call from my phone being a emergency contact.:(
Anyone have a solution please.
Poor battery, watch band broke
Great idea but wouldn’t buy again. After laying out the money for the watch we then had to purchase a particular kind of SIM card only available through a few providers (we went with Telstra). Then realised we also have to subscribe to the app which costs $5.99 a month on top of that so laying out almost $30 a month on top of the purchase price. Imagine my surprise then when such a costly product has poor battery life (lucky to make it through one day) and the watchband also broke just before a year was up. Not really the quality I would expect...for the price. The watch can now only be csrgiedaround innusons pocket because go fix it has to be sent away and I have to pay for a new watch band and postage. Not happening! Surely could have had a replaceable watch band. Anyway, will be going in the bin as soon as I can get my hands ona viable alternative.
Had it for about 18 months and it charges to 100% only to drain to 0% in less than 1 hour. only ever used it a handful of times. Friends of ours had the same problem and sent it back to Spacetalk and got a new one as it was useless.......New one seems fine so far......
Great idea but....
I really liked this watch for my 9 year old son. However the battery life doesn’t even make it through a school day and my son has to turn it off during the day so he can perhaps make a text or receive a call from me at the end of the day. Not worth the money.
Perfect for my autistic Son
Helps create independence for my son in learning life skills and technology at the same time. Good product. Thanks for the screening of who can and can’t contact him. To be able to track him from my phone is great
Refused to replace faulty product
My son's Spacetalk watch has been faulty from day 1. The SIM cover came loose immediately (I had to put tape over it to hold it in place), then texts would randomely not arrive or send. Ultimately it would not even make calls or indicate my son's location. At this point (unfortunely outside warranty period) I contacted Spacetalk who refused to replace it. Instead they examined it and said it was moisture damage, i.e not their fault. My son never wore it near water. Any moisture damage could only have been from his sweat because the SIM cover wa...s always loose. They "fixed" it and sent it back and now the exact same problems are occuring and they again refuse to replace it. Instead, they offered to SELL me a replacement watch from their "exchange stock" for $170. As I was finishing this review I clicked on another Spacetalk review that said their watch was faulty from the start and that Spacetalk claimed it was "water damage". (Also the battery is only supposed to last around 24 hours which is much worse than the Apple Watch).
I purchased this watch for my Sons birthday back a couple of months ago from Qantas Rewards for my Son’s birthday. It wasn’t until we gave it to him a week ago and he opened it that I realised the watch is not waterproof nor is it water resistant. (This was not highlighted on the Qantas website and was then too late to return). So a week into having this watch my son put it on the side of the pool at a friends house and it was splashed with water. My husband saw it sitting by the pool so he grabbed it and put it in his pocket to find that it go...t so hot he had to remove it from his pocket. Then it stopped working. We sent it back to find that it is beyond repair due to 'water damage' (from being splashed on the side of the pool) but we could buy a new ‘refurbished’ model for $170!! Do you think I am crazy?! Why would we buy the same thing again! This is a rip off and almost scam like. We are not the only ones after looking at the reviews. There are many that state the negatives of this product and they are all true. This a $300 watch made for KIDS that need to be hermits. Wake up you need to improve your product as there are much better, more reliable products out there. So my advice is do not buy. Go Apple SE anyday!! You also don’t have to pay the monthly app fees either which is much better.
Very bad charging system
1 year old and it is not charging, took to spark, when I bought it, and they cannot help.
I wouldn't but it again.
Just rubbish, very expensive rubbish.
I am very frustrated.
Very Disappointed! Don't Waste the Cash
Our Spacetalk never worked properly. From the get go it used to go blank and turn off or the screen would go black when my 8yo tried to read a message so she would have to restart it. We bought every single insurance offering JB HiFi had to offer and eventually took it back to get checked only to find out today Spacetalk decided it was "water damaged" and won't fix it! What a complete and utter joke! Aside from being on an 8yo's sweaty wrist this device wasn't damaged in any other way. Like flushing money down the toilet!
Several Design Improvements Needed
This watch is designed for kids, yet there are a number of key issues that make it not so kid-friendly:
1) Needs to be water resistant - at least IP66 or IP67.
2) Needs a much better battery life and a faster charging time.
3) Use of the app should be included in the product price (eg: no extra monthly "subscription" cost).
4) Needs a more slim-line design profile (it's too bulky for smaller children).
5) Needs much better screen protection - too easy to scratch / crack by active kids.
6) Need to be able to replace broken watch band at home (i...
Great for Kids and parents! Also great customer and tech support!
Could not be happier! Great smart watches for our two primary school aged kids! Issues with charging after a year of rough use, but amazing customer and tech support to remedy those issues. I have always felt that a product can always have faults, especially tech, and after significant use or wear-and-tear, especially by children, but the true value of a product or company is how well they handle things when things go wrong. Spacetalk’s customer and tech support have been truly amazing, and we could not be happier! Simply outstanding Aussie business that backs up its great products with outstanding support & service! They went above & beyond, surpassing all expectations.
Purchased for my son, after 6 weeks the watch started having glitches and within 12 weeks it stopped working completely. The process to resolve required the watch to be sent away, leaving him without any device.
We then had to purchase a phone so he had a means to contact us.
We looked at the watch and the seal where the sim card goes had completely deteriorated. It had let moisture from sweat and dirt to get in.
We did not send watch away, with 3 other children needing a device soon we'll look for other options on the market.
Good product backed by helpful friendly service.
A handy device for light communication & tracking. Could be improved by making it smaller, from steel & waterproof. Service is very good from Spacetalk. Good for kids at school. No camera & apps to distract kids at school.
Great product, outstanding customer service
Spoke with staff over messenger before purchase, they were very helpful.
Watch arrived super fast even with postage delays only took two days.
Works great. Signed with belong on their $25 sim then after a month can downgrade to the $10 plan.
Contacted customer service for after sales support for an issue and it was resolved Very quickly with their support team going above and beyond what I expected.
Thanks guys really appreciate everything.
Happy child, happy parents!
Purchased this watch in May 2020 for our 7 year old daughter and she loves it! The reward stars and step counter are her favourite features, and she loves the fact that she can contact us at the tap of the screen. We don't tend to use the gps function constantly, but it's great to know we have the ability to see where she is in just a few seconds. The AllMyTribe app is well designed, and just works!! A+ SpaceTalk Team!
Would recommend spacetalk over other brands
the watch is perfect for our families needs. It's got great features and nothing extra which we really appreciate. The customer service is excellent too! We love app and user friendly software as well
Great support and product
This watch is everything we need it to be to keep our child connected with us and to know they are safe. The customer service Provided with the SpaceTalk product is fantastic. They are easy to contact and provide excellent support and if you need anything fixed they are super quick. Really fantastic service. The only thing I wish they could do is make it waterproof. But besides that great product. Thanks Spacetalk.
Awesome product! Outstanding support!
We bought this product in Feb early this year so that we can stay in touch with our daughter at school and also for the fact that its school and social media safe and comes with amazing settings. Due to an accident my daughter broke the housing of the watch and it fractured at multiple points. When approached the SpaceTalk team asked me to send photos and get the watch delivered to them. They fixed it one day and sent it back almost immediately!! PLus all of that was covered in warranty. I cant explain how efficient the team was in responding and communicating every step and details. Thank you very much SpaceTalk. Keep up the good work. Its an amazing product.
Does what it says
When someone texts my child’s number I get notification
It’s cheap to run full time
Kids call me whenever they are not home
The customer service is the best I have ever experienced !
Questions & Answers
When I try call someone from my sons watch it says “call forwarding on conditional” what is this and how do I fix it so he can make calls from his watch
Call Forwarding on Conditional forwards incoming calls forwards incoming calls to another phone number if you do not or cannot answer them. This is a service provider message that indicated any incoming calls while a current call is active, will be sent through to voice mail. This should not impact the ability to make calls from the watch.
If you are experiencing issues making calls to and from the watch, I would recommend getting in contact with our Support team via email at email@example.com or by phone 1300 087 423
