Can help boost milk supply
Comfortable breast shields
Device is rather bulky
Portable and easy to use!
Got Spectra S1 breast pump second hand and It worked beautifully for my first baby. Portability was the key because I needed to pump at work and sometimes on the go in the car. The machine is bulky but I didn’t mind as it worked well, though I did find the suction was more powerful when I used it only as a single pump rather than a double pump. Different settings of speed and suction as well as a “let down” mode was super handy as well. Really great product!
A good breast bump
I bought this product for my wife when she just gave birth to our son but found it difficult to produce any milk by herself. The bump was comfortable enough to use, but we found it did not work that effectively as we expected, it took quite a long time to bump little milk though, so my wife had to sit on the bed for quite a while to produce enough milk for our child very often, so we eventually gave up using it because it just took forever waiting the milk. We had never tried to carry it elsewhere because we did not use it frequently after a co...uple of weeks, but I'd image it would not be difficult to carry it around. Overall speaking, the breast bump does produce some milk but the amount of milk you get also entirely depends on yourself, if you do have enough milk, then you will get a good result.

Love this pump. Easy to clean, effective i.e can pump $150 ml in 15-18 mins. My breast no longer hurt and am happy to pump three times per day. Previous pumps were taking over sn hour to get the same amount of milk and my breasts hurt and had more moving parts to clean. This machine is also super quiet. Worth the price tag. Only complaint is not being able to choose flang size upon purchase of unit, they all come with a standard 24mm flange and I need 32mm. So when I bought the pump online I also ordered a 32mm set-set means one flange, so need to order another one at $29.

A great pump
Pros: Easy to use, looks nice, a lot of different functions, portable.
Cons: Expensive, quite weighty.
I bought this pump before bub arrived after reading everyones reviews online. It is seriously a wonderful pump, double pump is great, however I haven't used it too often as have exclusively BF with no bottles... for some reason I can't let-down milk without the baby feeding. I wish I had waited to buy a pump for this exact reason, however if you are 100% certain you will be expressing, then this is definitely a great pump and I will keep it for the next pregnancy in case I need a pump. I have recommended to others.

Supposed to be the best of the best...
The s1 is light, easy to carry, but awkward to balance on the couch (which is where I usually pump). I can use the pump for 20+ minutes and only seem to get around 80ml whereas another pump I have I can use for 10 minutes and get upwards of 140ml. The nightlight feature is helpful and bright enough to see the screen but not bright enough it's disruptive, the pump is relatively quiet which i appreciate when pumping next to bub while she's asleep. Customer service is lovely, they're very helpful and will usually offer you a discount code if you'r...e purchasing the s1. Shipping was fast. I pump once a day to build supply and a stash for when I go back to work and honestly have not used this pump more than a few times as for the price I am disappointed in the output.. but that may be user error. All in all its a good hospital grade pump which is what I desperately wanted! Edited to add, after spending abit more money I got a shield size that suited me better. The output has increased but I'm disappointed i had to spend even more money.
Purchased in July 2018 for $330.00.
Great pump. Probably the best on the market but not without flaws.
Great pump and I can reach letdown much faster than with my Medela Swing. I’m not sure if it actually extracts more but being able to pump in 10 mins as opposed to 45 mins is a major plus!
A couple of cons I’ll note:
-The size - not too portable but expected for a hospital grade pump. I used to like using my Medela Swing with a pump bra and hook it to my pants so I could do my house work while pumping. The spectra is way too big for that.
-Would prefer more power on double pump - I’ve found the power goes down on double pump so even on hi...

Works really well! Battery last long & easy to clean!
This is the only breast pump that I have used so far. It works well, parts are not overly complicated, therefore easy to clean. The flange that it comes with is a standard 24cm, it didn't fit me, hence I have to purchase a 20cm flange separately. It would be great if there is an option to choose which flange when you purchase the machine.
Machine is a bit heavy though which makes this not easy to travel with. If you are using it predominantly at home, this is a good machine. If you are thinking of getting back to work or use it while travelling, better explore a more portable machine.
Does not suit me
First of all, I want to give credit to Spectra customer service. They reply to your enquiries very promptly.
For the pump itself, I love the rechargeable feature. You can carry it anywhere in the house without worrying about power plug. And I only charged it once a day. The tubing should be longer. I find that often times it came off from the backflow protector. For me, the suction level was too strong for level 2 but level 1 was too low for getting milk output effectively so I stayed at level 2 even though it gave me some pain. This could be ...
I bought these because of the rave reviews. It does the job and is good value for money. However i found that the suction was not the best if you're looking for something a bit stronger to extract more milk. It was very gentle though & helped me get through the stages where everything hurt from breastfeeding.
Very good but battery needs charging a lot and I have to use Medals parts
Very good pump with many different settings. however I have to use Medela breastshields as the Spectra ones just aren't as comfortable. I have had this pump for a few years now and the battery just isn't holding up as well and I find I have to charge it more now...otherwise it's a very reliable pump.
far from perfect
I have been using S1 pump. It works great when using one side at a time, but the suction goes much weaker and uneven when using double side pumping, turns out it does not really save time to use double side pumping.
Also, the flanges that come with the package seem to be too big and always pull my nipples in too much. I am really worried if this will cause any damage to my breasts. Unfortunately, Spectra does not let customers choose proper flange size when purchasing their pumps.
The customer service person was really hard to talk to, always cut me off when I was trying to explain the issue and kept saying it's the issue with the parts and I need to purchase the replacement.
Great product but can be better
Received this pump several weeks ago to support my breastfeeding journey after multiple fail attempts of using Medela Swing Maxi (low suction, can't massage lumps), I found the pump very uncomfortable at the beginning of use. I spoke to Spectra customer services (Bron - she is fantastic) and we were communicating with each other back and forth until I found the right settings to suit my body. It is a bit trial and error but overall this is an excellent pump. I am able to get more milk in half amount of time compared to Medela. Price point is ve...ry reasonable for a hospital graded pump. Super quiet so I can express at work or the night at minimal interruptions. However there are several things to consider. I prefer much the way Medela is assembled with the connector and the breastshield separated. This allows me to store much better and allows that extra space in my work bag as I have to squeeze in everything. Couldn't find many containers that would fit both flange kits at the same time. The pump itself is light nonetheless bulky. And the worst is the bottles. You've gotta be careful using their bottles as they don't stay put, easily got tipped over and leaked. I have several incidents when it happened and just lost the milk. Balancing all pros and cons, if asked, I would definitely choose this pump again over Medela for the functionality, affordability, and customer services. Cheers, Lani.
Bad warranty on a good product
While it was working, the pump was very good. Quiet, easy to use, and with the battery extremely portable. The battery lasts for a long time, and although it wasn't being used too regularly, it seemed that it was quite durable and would suffer much more punishment.
Unfortunately, there was a problem with the battery charging circuit on my pump. I requested warranty service from spectra-baby.com.au, and the online customer support was quite responsive. However, when they established that the pump was faulty and needed to be sent to them for r...epair, things slowed down, a lot. I still haven't received the pump back, a month after initially contacting them. They seem very confused about whether it has been repaired, and when I might expect to see it again. I recommend the product. I do not recommend the Australian distributor.
Affordable hospital grade breast bump
Very pleased with my purchase! I used another brand which took me 40 mins each time to express at work. With all the positive reviews I purchased the S1 and I wish I could had it sooner! It is such a powerful yet quiet breast bump. I managed to get more milk in 20 mins. I like the let down mode as it imitates the way baby latches on. Overall I'm very happy with the S1 and I would recommend to any new mom who's returning to work. The only cons is that my nipples can be easily pulled into the neck of the flanges, maybe I could choose a wider flange.
Spectra sell these pumps directly, from their website. As such, there is no dealer network. They manufacture the product and supply it.
The pump works really well. For the price, I think it is hard to beat. The ordering process is a bit flakey though. Firstly, the web page froze as my order was being processed, leaving me unsure whether the purchase had gone through correctly. Secondly, I was told that if I placed an order in the morning my pump would be shipped the same day. This turned out not to be the case, my pump took two days to arriv...e. This meant I had to hire a pump to cover the day we were without one (and there are minimum hire periods of course, so I ended up hiring an Ameda for two weeks) as well as having to buy a milk collection kit. Our baby came three weeks early hence the last minute panic pump buying! On the plus side, this allowed us to compare the Spectra with the Ameda and my partner reckons the Spectra is just as good (and a fraction of the cost).
Questions & Answers
Help my spectra pump has turned on but now none of the buttons will work to switch between modes, increase suction or even turn it off.
Just had the same problem! Did you find any resolution?
I was pumping and all of a sudden the Spectra turns off! I tried to turn it back on and the screen turns in but there’s no suction or pumping sounds from the pump. After a few seconds, it shuts off.
