So glad I got this pump, it saved my nipples!!
I have very sore nipples due to my newborn's tongue tie and latching problem. My baby also constantly falling asleep when BF and not getting enough milk. I'm so glad I got this pump because it's very quiet and comes with portable battery so I can express anywhere and feed her without hurting my nipples. The massage mode works really well to get a letdown.
The bottles that comes with the pump are also much better than closer to nature bottle. My newborn seems to get less wind when she use spectra's bottle so I have ordered 2 additional one.
Excellent pump and definitely worth every penny!
Holy grail for mums
For a first time mum, I have been really pedantic on the products to use before bub arrived, asking my girlfriends which works, researching, and looking at reviews. This one had the best feedback by far. So after using a hospital grade breast pump from the hospital and renting one for a week, I bought a Spectra S1. Best decision ever! Hassle-free expressing even in the middle of the night. I dare to say, it surpasses my expectations, even better than the hospital units. Convenient, user friendly, quiet operation and even good looking. Worth every penny. Love it!
Best pump around!
The spectra s1 is the most comfortable pump I've used! Takes me anywhere from 10-20 mins to double pump :) so easy to maintain and clean. I definitely would recommend this pump to anyone looking for one! It's a very quiet pump. The let down mode is a awesome feature!
Great quality for fantastic value
I purchased my Spectra S1 in February after trying 3 other well known pumps and it is easily the best I've used. I get a letdown using the massage function within 30 seconds and can get anywhere from 150ml - 200ml from each side in a 10 minute sitting. It is comfortable, easy to use and the fact that it's a closed system means it's easy to clean also! The customer service has been fantastic - it arrived the morning after I ordered it. I would definitely purchase this product again!
Really Good Pump
Spectra S1 is very comfortable to use, it even has massage function. I purchased it before I give birth, it was delivered to my home so quickly. I tried it and find it is quite easy to clean. Why I choose this product because I can use it after I go back to work. When I finish battery charging, I can use it for a whole week. It is really convenience for me. BTW, I really want to say is this pump is much stronger than other brand pump I tried. I will use this product again when I have my second baby and I will introduce to my friends as well.
I've borrowed this pump from my cousin and I must say I'm very impressed! With 2 children and a new born, time is a previous resource and the spectra S1 has helped me to establish my milk supply (something I struggled with). I found it very easy to use and love that you can adjust the vacuum strength. Although I haven't tried pumping both sides at once, the idea/option to be able to do this is awesome! The previous electric pump I used became less effective when milk somehow got into the tubes, however I like how this pump has a back flow protector that can be easily cleaned like the rest of the pumping equipment. The machine is reasonably quite too.
Overall, I highly recommend this pump to any expectant/nursing mum.
So glad i tried this brand
I absolutely love my spectra pump and am so glad that i tried this brand over more expensive common ones. Pumping can be such a draining (lol) and challenging experience and I was really struggling but with the spectra s1 I have maintained a great supply and it's so gentle and quick. Love that I can adjust the let down and expression modes to suit...its battery life is fantastic and after adding a strap and pumping bra I'm not stuck in a chair anymore...I've pumped on planes, in the car, washing dishes..its brilliant. Very easy to clean and th...e backflow protectors mean no milk is getting into the pump. Only issue is the bottles it comes with are a bit rubbish. But the flanges are combatible with other brands so i use the spectra bottles to store milk and avent to feed. Make sure you get the right flange for your nipple size makes a big difference. .so great they have the option! Another plus is that the customer service is second to none. I had an issue with a previous purchase (spectra 9) and the brilliant team immediately sent me a loan pump less then 24 hrs after I contacted them and then let me upgrade to the S1. Such a lovely team of pumping mummas too!
After previously using a Medela swing, the spectra S1 has changed my world. I love how I can change the settings to suit me, the night light is great for late night expressing and the rechargeable battery means I can express anywhere. My once hour to an hour and a half of single pumping has now been cut to thirty minutes double pumping. It's easy to clean and maintain. Things I don't like is how the pump starts in pumping mode instead of let down mode. The unit is a bit chunky to be easily portable. The labelling on the storage bottles is of poor quality and washes off. The cup holder does not keep the bottles stable.
Aside from a few things that could be improved I am still very happy with this pump and would recommend it.
Better than we expected
This pump saved my wife's sanity. After using the hospital pump, we came home to the standard cheap pump our friends lent to us, only to find it wouldn't extract ANY milk, we ended up renting a Medela symphony. We ended up searching around for a pump that would work and wouldn't cost the earth to by. After reading reviews and getting advice from other mothers, we decided to go with the S1. We haven't looked back since, it works as well as the Medela symphony, and the pump noise is smoothing. The noise even puts our baby to sleep these days.
Excellent Breast pump
Very happy with my purchase of the Spectra S1 Hospital Grade Double Electric breast pump. I am feeding twins and it is easy to use with many great features like the portability, night light and timer. I found this pump much better than the pump the hospital supplied during my stay. I would definitely recommend this pump to any expected mum.
Great pump at an even better price
I bought the S1 after hiring the Medea symphony. Whilst I expected a supply drop I was pleasantly surprised to find I was getting the same amount if not more! Love the portability especially. The only con is that it isn't as whisper quiet as I thought it would be but no big deal.
October 5th 2017 Update: Wonderful wonderful product!
I bought the Spectra S1 after having my baby at 31weeks. During his 5-week hospital stay, I had hired a Medela symphony for home use and was using the symphony in the special care nursery at the hospital. I pu...rchased the spectra s1 after reading reviews, and I am so pleased it did not disappoint. I was getting the same (if not more) milk using the S1 as the symphony, and it was portable and so easy to use. I ended up expressing for 13 months and now that I am expecting my second child, am looking forward to using it again. I probably never would have bought it if I hadn't had a premmie, I was planning on just buying a medela swing as that is what all my friends were using, I am so glad I didn't and I have now also converted all my friends onto it too! Fantastic product at a great price.
Easy to use and gets the main things right.
I should preface this review by stating that we have only had this pump for two weeks and this is based on our initial experience: We checked a lot of reviews before settling on the Spectra S1. My partner wanted the flexibility of the rechargeable battery and double pumping, although these features have turned out to not be as critical as I expected. Double pumping means she has to use both hands to hold the bottles up to her breasts but it's over and done with in a matter of 15 minutes or so.
While it is relatively expensive, it's a good p...iece of kit and has been worth the investment for us. It's easy to use and to clean. I like the fact the milk doesn't pass through the machine or tubes - it is separated out by the valves directly into the bottles. I should also mention it is very light and very quiet. She can use it right next to bub and it doesn't rouse him. The only thing we would change about it is to add a spot to hold the second bottle when she finishes pumping. It can be awkward to juggle the bottles while disconnecting the tubes. That said, it's a pretty minor flaw with an otherwise excellent machine.
powerful double pump at fraction of the cost
Once my wife realised she would be needing to express for much longer, we decided to get something that would be comparable to the Medela Symphony from the hospital. I cut one of the Medela suction tubings in half and press fitted it on the Spectra backflow protectors to reuse all our Medela equipment and continue using the same shields.
One confusing thing is that the Spectra S1 does not start in massage mode. The manual says it should start in massage mode (let down) and automatically change to expression mode after two minutes. This can b...e confusing to first time users. Overall the Spectra S1 is definitely an excellent pump with more features than the Symphony at a fraction of the cost. The battery is extremely useful when needing to go out but still maintaining a regular pumping routine.
Very easy to use. It has adjustable cycle and vacuum settings which makes it personalised just for you. The massage setting is great for the let down of milk.
The night light is very handy. This product is lightweight, made it easy to take to work and express. Much more affordable than hiring a pump through the hospital. Highly recommended.
Have been struggling with Avent manual pump, bought this and I've been able to express so much more pain free! So easy to use & pull apart + sterilize! Very happy and well worth the money. If you buy online they send you a discount code and deliver within two days.
Affordable hospital grade breast bump
Very pleased with my purchase! I used another brand which took me 40 mins each time to express at work. With all the positive reviews I purchased the S1 and I wish I could had it sooner! It is such a powerful yet quiet breast bump. I managed to get more milk in 20 mins. I like the let down mode as it imitates the way baby latches on. Overall I'm very happy with the S1 and I would recommend to any new mom who's returning to work. The only cons is that my nipples can be easily pulled into the neck of the flanges, maybe I could choose a wider flange.
Spectra sell these pumps directly, from their website. As such, there is no dealer network. They manufacture the product and supply it.
The pump works really well. For the price, I think it is hard to beat. The ordering process is a bit flakey though. Firstly, the web page froze as my order was being processed, leaving me unsure whether the purchase had gone through correctly. Secondly, I was told that if I placed an order in the morning my pump would be shipped the same day. This turned out not to be the case, my pump took two days to arriv...e. This meant I had to hire a pump to cover the day we were without one (and there are minimum hire periods of course, so I ended up hiring an Ameda for two weeks) as well as having to buy a milk collection kit. Our baby came three weeks early hence the last minute panic pump buying! On the plus side, this allowed us to compare the Spectra with the Ameda and my partner reckons the Spectra is just as good (and a fraction of the cost).
Great product, great company
This pump is amazing. I had been hiring the medela hospital grade pump for several months when I bought this one (second hand) based on the great reviews. I found it more comfortable and I expressed milk faster with the Spectra. The let down mode is really good and I love that it can run off battery as well. Spectra were out of stock of the larger breast shields that I needed, so I did a hack with my medela collection kit that worked well. The collection kit and shields are probably the only negative. The neck of the shields is a little short, ...so it's actually my preference to use the medela ones. I recently had a problem with the pump and although I bought this second hand they honoured the warranty and fixed the pump promptly. Their customer service is excellent, and while pumps in general are expensive, Spectra is great value for money and much cheaper than a lot of others!
Love this pump!
I was nervous about pumping as I exclusively breastfeed and wanted to provide expressed milk while I was at work. This pump has made it simple! I received such helpful advice when I first contacted Spectra - their service has been excellent - and so many friends recommended this pump. So despite planning on buying a Medela, I bit the bullet and bought this one and couldn't be happier!
Pluses: nice to use, letdown mode is very helpful, extremely customisable and therefore comfortable, I can express so quickly, you can double pump, it's a clo...sed system so you can't get milk in your motor, and unlike the S2 which it is otherwise identical to, you can charge it up and unplug it. This feature alone is well worth the extra money. Minuses: the manual says it starts up in letdown mode but it actually starts in regular vacuum mode - it's a minor inconvenience but worth pointing out so you don't cop regular vacuum the moment you turn it on! As Spectra are new in the Australian market, some of the packaging is in Korean but that's not an issue. A manual is available now by PDF that is really helpful. Any issues that you have I am certain the lovely staff will sort out for you. I recently purchased a silicone massager insert for my flange and I highly recommend this. It feels softer at the breast and has improved my pumping volumes. Once you're sure of your flange size, I'd recommend doing the same. Overall, I couldn't be happier. To think I hand expressed for ages when I could have done this, crazy! Just do it. I can't see how anyone could go wrong with this pump.
Cannot fault it
I did so much research in which breast pump to get and with all the excellent reviews of the Spectra it was a no brainer.
I was originally going to purchase the s2 but wanted to take it anywhere without needing a power outlet... so this one was the winner for me and have not looked back!
Spare parts are affordable and easy to order too. It also fits the AVENT bottles perfectly.
I am an exclusive pumper at present and I could not live without this pump.
My baby had attachment issues from his birth and I have been unable to go straight to breast feeding. Luckily I had good supply and so started him on expressing and bottle feeding. I did a lot of research and although the hospital lactation consultants recommended Medela I had done a lot of research and so I went with the spectra. I am so glad that I did this!!!! I had tried the Medela symphony hospital pump & then also tried the Medela swing pump from a friend. Both of these are far inferior to the spectra pump & I am not sure as to why the Me...dela brand is the leader in the market. My supply was better with the spectra, the spectra is less noisy, it has a night light and has so many different options for vacuum levels that it is far less painful. Plus the price is way better. I am only 3 weeks in and can get around 160 mL with pumping around 30 minutes, within 10 minutes I can easily get 80 mL expressed and both results are far better than the other pumps I was using. I can not recommend it enough!!!
You need this pump!
If you are looking for a hospital grade double pump then look no further!
After coming to the realisation I was going to be pumping full time I rushed out and purchased a pump without really understanding what I needed or would want down the track. By 6 weeks I was spending over 8 hours a day attached to this other pump and needed another option, the only problem was that double pumps were expensive without even being a hospital grade...then I found Spectra.
This pump is AMAZING!. I have cut my pumping time in half and have increased the ...volume of milk I produce. On top of that I have the option of how I want my pump to work with options on the cycle (amount of pumps) and the strength of the vacuum. BUT best of all is the price, I couldn't believe I purchased a hospital grade pump with everything included for such a small investment. Anyone that asks me for a recommendation I instantly say Spectra. The word needs to get out about this brand and their wonderful pumps!
Simply the best! Better than all the rest.
I absolutely love my new Spectra S1. I had been using 2 x Medela swings to double pump to express for my baby, who wasn’t latching. My supply was quite low and I was getting about 40% of what my baby needed each day from those pumps.
Switching to the Spectra, I immediately saw the difference in quantity. It about doubled immediately and I would empty in 5 minutes whereas the other pump was taking a good 12 minutes to empty, can physically see and hear the milk flowing easily, which always puts a big smile on my face. I also manage to get a ...second letdown with the Spectra, which I couldn’t with the other pump. The pump has much better suction, I only need to use the low settings to get the same suction and output as putting the other pump up much higher. It is also quieter and easier to transport around with a re-chargable battery. I love the night light on the pump too, as does my husband!! The price for this hospital grade pump is amazing. All I wish is that I had’ve researched a bit better at first and bought the Spectra straight out rather than wasting my money on other pumps!!
This pump has all the excellent things going for it like the S2, PLUS portability! It has maintained my supply brilliantly, and I have found it to be way more effective than the Medela Symphony I was hiring. It is so quiet, and so easy to set up and use. I also love the various suction settings available to tailor the pumping to your specific comfort and needs. The night light is awesome, and it is so light and portable not to mention so good to have in an emergency - the power went out the other night, but because it has the battery, I was sti...ll able to pump all night! Phew! This is very affordable and comes with everything to double pump. The only thing that could be better are the bottle and teat shapes. I much prefer the flow and shape of medela bottles and teats, but use the spectra bottles as containers. The spectra bottles have a much more accurate measurement guide on the side than medela though, so I am able to read how much I’m pumping much more easily. Apart from the bottles and teats, I love every feature of the Spectra S1 and am happy to recommend!
Worth every cent!
Such a fantastic pump that is quick and easy to use. It can be used as a single or double pump. It is so quiet that I can even use it whilst on the phone! Whenever I have had a question the service team is great and responding very promptly. Would definitely recommend it to anyone needing to buy a pump.
