Never again

Performance on the low side.

Handles like a rocking chair

Noise reasonable

Finish is acceptable.

Interior is acceptable.

Reliability is good for travel to the corner shop. Running costs OK..

The vehicle is reasonable but the Service supplied by the Importers with Roadside call centre is hopeless they have no idea whatsovever. Availability of Spare Parts and price for same are shockers so make sure you dont breakdown too far away from home. Oh by the way forget the warranty and I think the National Service Manager is rude arrogant and indifferent.

Not a bad car. Just some slight issues

Hey, I think my engine power relay needs to be replaced. My SsangYong over heats to the top of the red and the engine light comes on. It only does it every so often though. I was just wondering how much it costs to get replaced? And where the best mechanic for SsangYong's in Brisbane is to get it done? Thanks Heaps.

Great vehicle

I have owned this vehicle for over two years and have had no problems as yet, the power is great and the gearbox (auto) is smooth. I have installed airbag suspension as I tow a pop top camper van and the ride and economy is excellent. After driving a Nissan Patrol for several years, this vehicle is like driving a limo. Now in its tenth year and still going strong with no problems at all. If Ssangyong put sat nav and reverse cameras in as standard I would even consider upgrading to a new one.

brilliant/reliable tow car

we bought a 2006 rexton brand new and it has served us well for a family 7 seater and the car has towed 2.5 tons for many trips interstate and locally .Its now just ticked over 100.000kms and still strong ,still towing long distance .it is nearly due for a new clutch as expected working hard most of its life.
reliable ,efficient

will buy another

had our 2006 for 5 years, bought second hand. Put nearly 300,000 kms on it, has really worked hard and rarely missed a beat. Some odd issues with lights coming on at off times, turns out to be sensor problems rather than anything major. Diesel needs proper service intervals to avoind clatter. Kids have tried to trash it, been on 1000km drives with it, packed the dogs in it, load for the tip etc and can still take the boss out in it.
10L/100km amazingly consistent, rugged, looks good, cheap to buy
some services expensive, don't like warning lights coming on, 3rd row seats too tight for teens, don't like the car forgetting to take off sometimes when you are in a hurry Show details ·  1

It's done it again

You guessed it, the clutch is broken again. 4 clutches in 27 months and only 24000klms. What is wrong with this car. I guess it is time to let it go and purchase an ozzie car. It looks good - a lovely car but nothing but problems with the clutch.

Great car. Purchased new in 2006. Was 2005 badged. RX270XDi

Vehicle has done 150000km. Has been used as a comuter vehicle as well as beach work. Has not failed in any way. Very good on fuel. Purchase fuel filters from DELPHI distributor. Much cheaper than from SSangyong Dealer. Oil filter over the counter from parts specialist. My mate purchased 1 after my recommendation.
Powerful, fuel efficient real goer. Everything works.
Tyre size hard to find. Shocks leave a lot to be desired. Show details ·  1

300k update 9 years

I bought this car at a charity auction as there were no bids for it, initially there was a clutch and fuel gauge issue that was repaired promptly. Since then it has been a farm runabout with a lot of city work, hit 3 kangaroos and been momentarily under sea water, (big wave on the beach). The engine (2.9l diesel) has chugged along tirelessly. Fuel economy has been 8l/100km on long runs (95-100km/hr best economy) and tows 100km/h easily. Service every 20000km. Has been very reliable but as there is no resale or trade in value, I will try for 400k then take the $50 scrap value and try a Great Wall ute

Good

My 09 Rexton is a lovely car to drive but the quality of material lets it down. I had a flat wheel on a holiday trip and had to fit the spare. The next town was about 150km away, which meant I had to do 80km/hr with the tracksion control going crazy due to the spare being a tiny bit smaller (rolling radius)than the standard 255/75/16 alloy wheels.-Not pleasant at all as the esp tried to put brake pressure on the wheel with the spare on.
Fuel consumption is very good 8.5-9.0 lt/100kmNice comfortable drive.
Stupid sparewheel and 7-seat arrangement.Stitching on passenger seat coming undone.Cheap feeling plastic's.Why put the jack under the seat?? Show 2 replies

OK

I am worried about resale value when i come to get rid of it next year. I would look at a new model but it would depend on what I was offered as a trade in.
I have liked owning and driving it.
The fuel gauge does not go back to full when you fill the tank(diesel). they tell me it is a common problem but don,t have a fix for it.

OK

Overall this a a good car for the price, however the back pocket on the front steats has ripped off easily. Getting spar parts has been a problem for some reason the dealer always needs to order parts to get minor things fixed whether its regarding the engine or interior. The biggest dissapointment is the resale value, this car has one of the hightest depreciation rates ever experienced. I would not buy a Rexton or SsangYong again.
Mercedes diesel engine and geabox, Nice Style, Solid build, Smooth and quiet ride, Lots and lots of features and functions throughout.
Lack of luggage space, Spare Wheel, Quality of seats, very poor resale value

Excellent

We love this car i was very diasappointed in the reviews I read for this car i think they must of had it in for the rexton before their bum had hit the seat we drove all other vehicles eg pajero and prado and the rexton leaves them behind in engine quietness and car like ride. I'm a car enthusiast own a mercedes c class and this rexton deserves better.
Powerful and very quiet mercedes diesel engine and geabox, solid build. We bought a 2009 SPR, love the ride and feels very car like. Has everything that opens and shuts.
Space Saver spare, no trip computer

Excellent

You get a lot of car and features for very good value. I have researched the specs on other cars but you need to pay $55K plus to get what is on the Rexton. I am changing the spare wheel for a 2nd hand proper rim for $110+tyre. My last car was a Territory but it wasnt AWD, had less safey features and the fuel bill was frightening. The Rexton has a powerful and reliable diesel engine (Ex Mercedes Benz) that hasn't changed much and is used in most Ssangyong cars - stick to something that is good. My limited contact with the dealer and the new Australian agents (Sime Derby) has been fantastic. Happy driving!
Fuel economy, power, features, 7 seats, nice car to drive.

OK

If the parts were available locally and dealers had parts in stock the pain wouldn't have been so great. However, once one thing went wrong, it was down hill from there. Initially I was extremly happy with the prestige car on a peasants wage, but now it has cost more than that!
I appreciate greatly all the features that they advertise.
I have done 66000 klm's and have noted some minor issues which became major all over issues.Once one thing went other things followed suit. Add to this poor service from the dealer, Ian Parker. There was an 8 week turn around in waiting for parts from overseas and dealer error.

Bought my car last year a 2005 320 for AUD29000.00 i am getting 12l/100 and are very happy , change of circumstances has meant i need a seven seater so thought i would trade. Dealers are offering me AUD13000.00 that is crap. Ssangyong need to do more to market this vehicle and to make it attractive to buyers new and used. They should have some obligation to protect their customers. I will be interested in what a ssangyoong dealer will offer me

Bad

Very comfortable, stylish, excellent on and off road driving, make sure the Dealership servicing the car knows what they are doing. Ssangyong Aust. Head Office (Sydney) did'nt want to know about it cause the warranty had run out..??
Value for New 4X4 vehicle, comfortable on and off road, spacious.
had the car for nearly 3 1/2 years 150000 km. when the lack of knowledge from Dealership stripped the threading of all 5 glow plugs, I was told $6500 to replace cylinder head, and would have to wait 6 weeks for delivery. I sent the head to local Mercedes workshop, and was repaired for $2100. So if ya want spares for any of Ssangyong vehicles be prepared to pay big bucks and have the car OFF the road for long period of time.

Bad

Apparently parent company in receivership in Korea. Future looking very shaky. Explains lack of resale I suppose. It's not pretty so a lot of people wont look past that.
Seemed like good value
Heavy on Fuel. Went to trade it in and other dealers who dint want to know about it. Ssangyong dealer wouldn't buy it back at any price.

OK

The sleek design of this vehicle distinguishes it from others on the road. It has numerous storage features which makes it a handy family car. The towing capacity is an all rounder. However it is not the most comfortable 4WD on the road. Unless you pay the extra money the base model is very modest. This makes the vehicle quite expensive for what you get. We upgraded to the top of the range and other than getting leather and a sunroof there was not alot of difference. Overall a reasonable 4WD but interested to see how it wears over time.
Being a turbo diesel allows for better fuel consumption. Not as noisy as most diesels
cheap interior that is not very comfortable.

Except for the reduced value, I would recommend them as a great all round 4x4. I got 70,000km from 1st set of tyres & 60,000km from brakes. Changed oil every 5000km. Most of the travelled km was in outback.
Bought new Nov'06 with 17" wheels (07 style) have done 78,000km, towing a 2tonne van for abt 60,000km. Have had serviced by authorised service centre(not dealer) at Hornsby,NSW. When travelling have always carried oil/fuel filters to give to local mechanics for service, system worked well. Extremely comfortable when towing, great torque, used manual gear changes when in steep mountains, auto on the flat. everything worked well.
Loss of value, although I knew about that before purchasing.
