Three years with the Stiebel Eltron WWK300A
We installed this product about three years ago after struggling with two different LP gas systems. After much researching, we decided to go with a heat pump system. After researching who was the best at manufacturing heat pumps, we decided on Stiebel. It gave us a reliable source of hot water - something quite new to us - for a couple of years. The compressor had been quiet for over two years but, became increasingly less quiet for about three months until it just stopped working. We called Stiebel who sent their repairer who replaced the fail...ed compressor. In spite of the unit being out of warranty, we were not charged a cent! RESPECT!!!!! And for this reason I am going to leave the "Cons" section below empty. The excellent customer service and prompt, free repair far outweighed the fact that the compressor failed just a few months out of warranty. Would I buy another Stiebel product? Hell yeah! Reliable hot water, Great out of warranty service, I was treated with dignity and respect by the stiebel people
Does not live up to its promise
Our Stiebel Eltron heat pump is just over two years old and the pressure valve has failed. I am not sure how much this is going to cost us and how much water has leaked out of the unit over the last few days but I am sure its not going to be cheap! Very disappointed as the product was sold as the most reliable on the market however its obviously not. Of course this will not be covered under warranty because it is just outside the two year mark!!!!
Did reduce electricity costs
Limited warranty, not suitable for Australian climate, does not seem to handle extremes in temperature.
We had installed a Stiebel heat pump water heater in Northern Qld last year. We placed fly screen around top to stop insects and geckos etc getting into the works. I have noticed however an oily residue around the base of the unit. Mostly around the front left foot. Any clue what this may be?
Efficient. Cost saving.
Oil residue at base. Installers dented unit.
No good for Australian conditions
My Stiebel-eltron wwk300a packed up after less than 4 years (out of warranty). Saw a green frog poking his head out the vents not long before it packed up. Electrician said it was all corroded inside, not worth replacing any parts. Definitely not suited to Australian conditions.
Never worked well either. Took 2-4 minutes minimum for water to heat up every time we took a shower, even if someone had just taken one. Such a waste of water. I'm going solar now. Very disappointed. Such a short warranty too. Solar heaters are 5-15 years (vacuu...m tubes). Expected better from all the promises. No good for Australian conditions. Coastal air corroded unit completely; frogs go in and short it. Wastes water waiting for hot to come through, often 2-4 minutes or more.
Follow up service
We 'inherited' this heat pump when we bought our house. It broke, but cannot fault the service, still under warranty and all done and back on track after 2 days. My only comment would be tgat after only 3 years it is dissappointing that there was a problem in the first place. Well done stiebel.
our is super
love it love it love it, family of 6 including 2 adults 2 teen and 2 little ones. went from 9kwh usuage put in the steibel and down to 2kwh. hums for 2hours then that is it, it is a dream hotwater. never cold regardless off winter or summer. It stand tall and proud in my backyard
energy efficient, quiet, good looking and great company i bought from
Luke warm water and service
We bought a Stiebel Eltron WWK300A heat pump in January 2012, and by February we were having trouble. At first it was heating to 55 degrees but running out of hot water occasionally. Then it was only heating to 39 degrees and running out of hot water daily. Now it is 'heating' to luke warm, even if it is left overnight or a full day. We have had to wash by boiling a jug and using a bucket of water. The company who supplied the system say there is nothing wrong with it. It seems to run constantly but isn't very effective. I don't know about...the electricity savings - we would have saved more if we hadn't bothered installing a new system at all. I'm sure we'd save electricity if we didn't cook our food too! There is nothing good about this heat pump. It doesn't produce hot water, but it does produce a lot of noise.
Dont Buy a Stiebel Eltron Heat Pump
Unit has been installed just over three months & has stopped working. Contacted Stiebel Eltron direct who arranged a service agent to be sent out. Now day five with no hot water & no closer to getting fixed. Contacted Stiebel direct who could'nt offer an explanation. Contacted service Agent ,Trial Bay Refrigeration and Air Conditioning who could'nt advise if replacement parts had arrived, said too busy & would call back!!. Still waiting on calls. Poor service from Stiebel and Service Agent with No return call or explanation from Steibel or Tria...l Bay Refrigeration & Airconditioning at Kempsey NSW. High Cost to install unit poor after sale service from Stiebel and their service agents. Service Agent did'nt exactly know what was wrong apart from gas leak, but would try replacing some parts.
Unbeatable after sales service A1!
I have had my heat pump for twelve months and I am very happy . My electricity consumption has gone down considerable. It is a bit noisy, due to the position of install, but since having a noise reduction cover put on to it, I would say the noise level has gone down by 50%. Further more I found Stiebel's service is second to none. On two occasions I contacted the company and within 24hrs I was contacted and on both occasions I had a technician within 24hrs fixing the problem. There aren't to many places about where one gets that kind of service.
Energy efficient & saves money on power bills
Lives up to all that was promised
I have had the Stiebel Eltron now for nearly 12 months. My electricity bill as reduced quite significantly. I have a had no problems with the Steibel whatsoever. No noise issue either. My electricity bills are down and so is my green house gas emissions. Very happy with this hot water system.
reliable, inexpensive, energy efficient
Well worth it!!
We have had one now for just about twelve months I along with three other friends installed them all at the same time. I myself was replacing an 80ltr electric hot water unit and this has been a god sent our power bill has dropped we have plenty of hotwater and can't really notice it running it's right outside our bedroom and even with the window open the condensor doesn't worry us it's quieter than our reverse cycle unit. One of my other friends replaced a 135ltr gas HWU and he hasn't noticed any difference in power he has plenty of hotwater f...or his house hold of 5 and now only changes his gas bottle every 6 months instead of monthly. The other two friends replaced Solaharts and to them it was a life saver they are now saving so much money during winter on electricity as the booster on the solarhart was sucking up the juice. These are a great unit out of the four units three of them are run of pressure pumps and there are no issues they work really well in a ventilated area. They use hardly any electricity
Living with Stiebel Eltron for 3 years
Identified most efficient and allegedly best engineered product with maximum Federal and State(NSW)incentives and carbon trade credits. Purchased new on basis of price.
The pump is located outdoors (thank goodness)on the western side of the house. Plumber with Heat Pump experience installed. Independent electrician, again with heat pump expertise, connected to mains supply.
Installation completed 3 years ago. Connected to off peak tariff with two online periods daily.
The unit has , subject to the issues set out below performed very wel...l over the three years. We are a two person household with frequent visitors. The water has always been at temperature even with 5 persons drawing showers etc. The energy efficiency has been slightly better than expected and this has resulted in very low power bills for hot water compared to the immersion heater unit previously fitted. On the above criteria it has been a good purchase delivering all the required hot water at a greatly reduced cost. The cost benefit after the installation costs and the input of the subsidies has been remarkable. However
A brilliantly simple solution for heating water. The installation is easy and fast. I am astounded at the low power consumption compared to electric element conventional hot water heaters.
It hardly uses any power !
Nothing. It works exactly as expected.
I have 3 heat pumps hooked up together for my 10 room motel and we have now had them for 2 winters. In winter my gas bill for an 8 week period could be as high as $1400.00+ but with the heat pumps my winter gas bill is now about $700.00 for the same period. We also use the water for our heating throughout the motel and residence. In the warmer months our gas bill is less than $1.00 per day, yes $1.00!! The cost of electricty to run the 3 heat pumps in the warmer months (8-9 months)is about $100 per month. In winter (3-4 months) we do not run th...em at night. We have many people having showers late at night and with the demand for room heating if the tempreature is -5deg or more they don't recover as quickly. We run the heat pumps from early morning to dark. In the warmer months we run them 24 hours. We were so impressed with the overall performance of the heat pumps, we have also now installed one at our new house we are currently in the process of renovating. They are proving to be cost-effective, efficient and realible. Cheap to run even in the colder climates (Armidale)
Very well constructed unit, cheap to run, efficient and does what it says it will do. Plenty of hot water for family of 4 in Hobart's winter. The unit runs quieter than the reverse cycle air-conditioner near it. I positioned it away from bedrooms etc, so noise it not a factor as I had been warned where to place the unit. My decision to purchase this unit was influenced by the previous product reviews as well as counting on German engineering and European standards on energy consumption to be higher than current Australian requirements. It also was cheaper to purchase than other models which were not as efficient.
Efficient, energy saving, well designed.
Love the product, quiet and never hear it. Installed on off peak tariff and never run out of hot water with my family of 5ea, only cost me $9.00 per month for hot water. Have had it installed now for 3 years and never had a problem, another great product from Stiebel. :)
German manufactured, saved me 2/3 on my electricity bill, installed indoor in my laundry, never run out of water.
Installed unit one year ago. Choose the unit with booster, which cost another $300 extra.
On my request the unit was connected to night rate (8 hours supply from 10PM to 6AM). This was not recommended, but I decided to give this a go, should I run out of hot water, the booster will qickly provide additional hot water. The booster is connected to continous supply and has his seperate circuit which can be activated by a switch. This type of connection has been approved by Stiebel Eltron. The reason for this way to connect the unit is following: ...
I have called Sunshine Solar twice now. Why are the Stiebel recommended intallers balking at selling/putting in their product?
Gets great reviews
Thats what Im wondering. I phoned the Stiebel Eltron recommended installer in Brisbane (Sunshine Solar), told them I had decided it was the product I wanted and had the cash to install it ... and they have never shown up.
Germans and engineering, you cant beat them, They are innovative and this hot water heat pump is excellent, living in central Victoria, it does get cold but this does not worry the Stiebel Eltron heat pump at all. Overall very happy with this product, I would strongly recommend this unit.
I never run out of hot water, despite being told by a competitor the compressor was too small, and the heat pump would not recover. I have 4 children in the house, some shower morning and some evening. The machine is not overly noisy, although it can be heard.
if the machine were outside a bedroom, it could be noisy.
have had the wwk300a no booster element now for 5months and can tell the running costs for august september october .93 days supply 237kwhs on country energy off peak 1, 8.434c per kwh total for this was $19.99. Just dont want to be around in 15 years or so when it brakes down as they would be far more expensive to repair or replace then the old element one we replaced it with .vivpat.
still noisey (have learnt to live with it but dont put it next to your neighbours fence or worse still bedroom)
Questions & Answers
Like many people here, my Stiebel Eltron WWK300A makes an incredible noise (nasty mechanichal noise), I can hear it from anywhere in my house, and a neighbor has just built a bedroom a few feet away from it. After so much expense I feel it is money down the drain. Would never recommend it because of this reason.
