Less than 12 months and on my third repair!
We purchased the Stihl on a deal we saw with the leaf Hoover at Sunshine Mowers in Moololaba, after a visit to my accountant. It worked fine for about 8 months and then the finger power controller got stuck on full power. I live at Peregian about a 40 minute drive back to the Sunshine Coast mowers. I drove down to drop it in for repair, the guy I saw fixed it on the spot! Great, I thought! The next time I used it, it lasted about 10 mins before the finger controller becoming jammed on full throttle again. I worked out how to start the Stihl by ...keeping the choke open whilst starting, so i ignored the issue. Eventually I was going to drive past SC mowers so I dropped it in for repair. 10 days later I received a call to say there was nothing wrong with the unit and to come and collect it. When I arrived I could see that the finger trigger was stuck on full power!!! GrrEEEEE another 80 mins of driving for nothing. The guy at the counter said he would repair on the spot, so I hung around for 30mins whilst he took it apart and repaired the unit. At home it worked fine on its first outing, today (2nd outing) the same problem reoccurred. I am over Sthil I thought I was buying a premium product backed by premium service. I was close to buying their electric lawn mower, but never, again. I now have another 2 x 80 minute drives to rerurn this peice of garbage and see if they can repair the Bl*^%y thing!
Purchased in May 2018.
Works well, starts easy
It's reasonably light and easy to use, provides plenty of blowing power that gets the job done, I use it for grass trimmings, leaves and also for our 20mm gravel driveway clean-up so it has enough power to blow the gravel back where it's supposed to be. The only thing that makes me wish I had bought the model up from this one is the anti vibration that this unit lacks, you don't really notice the vibration too much though (until you try the better model and you can barely tell its running from the feel of it).
So Far So Very Good
I Do Believe I Have Finally Bought a Blower that Will Keep The Wife Happy for a Decent Time Lets Hope So. After Two Bad Experiences with other Brands, It is Light weight Powerfull, quiet & Well Balanced Very Happy to this point with it, I should have bought a stihl in the first place
Do Not Buy
That starter spring is extremely weak be prepared to spend $35.00 for repairs or learn how to replace the $2.00 starter spring on a regular basis, you must barely pull the starter or it will bend every time, just kicked mine to the curb. This unit is NOT Stihl quality.
bought what i thought was a good blower, Brand new from Stihl Dealer took it home started it, used it for approx 10mins put it in the shed went to use it about 3 weeks later & it refused to start. Followed starting instructions as per the manual. It just refused to start. I have tried about 6 times since to start it, it kicks, idles for about 3 seconds then cuts out. Took it back to the dealer who said it was my fault that it wouldnt start,(typical) the dealer tried starting it & it refused to start. Bull shi*ted to me & Wanted to charge me to fix it biggest piece of sh*t i have bought, Threw it in the shed & went & bought a cheap Ryobi from Bunnings. that has not let me down.
Stihl Malaga sell good quality equipment and a reasonable price. I have been going there for 15 plus years and still have the products I bought then. I get lawnmower, whipper snipper and edger serviced at Stihl in Malaga. Good customer service. I will be going back again this week.
The Stihl BG 56 is great for cleaning up around the carport, driveway and garden.Saves me a lot of time, easy starting and very efficient. My neighbour borrowed it one day and was thoroughly impressed by being lightweight and its efficiency, didn't take much convincing,to talk him into buying his own. He is a another happy customer.
Usage; one/twice a week. Homeowner use only.
Year one; Hard to pull and start as the compression is so tight. A female would find it impossible.
Year two; Lose of power, carburator issue's that cleaning does not solve. I use ethanol free fuel with stabil added.
Ordering a new carb now, hope to get one more year out of it. I will never buy another Stihl product.
Bought one today, would be lucky blow the froth off a beer, underpowered rubbish, have a fs 85 brushcutter which is an excellent machine, extremely disappointed with the blower. Having had echo blowers in the past the Bg 56 does not have anywhere near the amount of blowing force. Will be returning it to the Stihl dealer on Monday.
Great little unit, vac function can clog up
Stihl BG 56
I love my Stihl BG 56 with Vacuum Kit, I don’t take on anything too strenuous with it and it’s never missed a beat in 5 years.
• Value for money
• Always starts
• Works as expected
• Blow and vac options on the one unit is nice
Cons: ...• Cannot suck up anything remotely like a stick, I can trim my hedges and it sucks up all the trimmed leaves but if I get too excited and lob off small twigs as well as leaves it can get clogged up. To open it you need a star screw driver and it void warranty. I needed to open it the first day I used it and the store was shut – I sucked up a load of damp, muddy leaves and the mud blocked it up. It takes about 5 minutes to remove blockages and is a pain when it happens. • The first Stihl shop (Newcastle) I went to told me to not buy this model. The guy couldn’t work out how to change from blow to suck and advised me these units didn’t work well while trying to upsell me. I trusted my instincts and went to another local Stihl shop (Raymond Terrace) where they showed me it was easy to use and I’m happy with it 5 years on! Not sure if there’s truth in the sales guys warning, mine hasn’t missed a beat.
For the money, it is unbeatable.
I was worried there wouldnt be enough power, but I was wrong.
I thought it would be too heavy but I was wrong.
I also own an electric one, but this is so much more convenient.
The only wish I had is that the vacuum attachment wasnt $149.
Lightweight, but a little hard on your hands
If you have a big yard, the vibration will leave your hands tingling. Other than that, works great. 2nd Stihl i own and becoming a loyal fan!
Bg56 huge waist of money! Took it in for repair twice under warranty, in the last year it's been in five times once they tried to rebuild the carb. Still doesn't work! Actually got it started about four to five times to use , rest of the time is in the shop !
Ignition module failed after 2 months and they replaced it and it still didn't work properly. So now just after a year its done it again. Absolutely shocking treatment at morayfield stihl dealer. Im disgusted in how they treat customers. Also ill add i use it once a day for 10 minutes and it cant even handle that.... what a joke.
Stihl doesn't work
i listened to my dealer and did everything they said regarding fuel type, methods to start up etc and the machine still does not start easily. When it does, and I with it off temporarily for leaf clearance it won't restart. the product is rubbish.
Questions & Answers
Unusual situation. The blower has worked well for 12 years. Today , for an unknown reason the blower shaft literally blew off. Trying to reattach it did not work, unless I held it in place. Any explanations or suggestions? Thanks
Hi Take it to your nearest Stihl dealer, Im sure they will reinsert it for no charge.
how do you atatch vacuum,please
Hi Andrew you need a flat screwdriver, turn the sthil on it's side white air intake upwards. Locate the slot that you can insert the screw driver to release the cover. Pull cover back and look for the imprinted arrows on the side of the intake and the large tube which will suck up the leaves, line them up and twist the sleeve to lock the two together. Repeat the same for the bag collector. There might be a video on youtube?
