Sunbeam PU8000 - Setup for Success
Well..I picked up my new machine yesterday 10 May 2018. Very excited to get it setup and running. Read the instructions..cover to cover. Put everything together step by step. Water level..check. The moment of truth..turn on the power and wait. Heat up cycle check..Turn the hot water function ..check..no worries..all going well. Check water comes out of the group head..check. Turn on the steam..FAIL. Nothing...not a sound. Scratch head..reread manual..no change. Go through startup procedure again..and again..and..again. Check fault detection in ...manual..nothing about steam faults. Then read online forum and get the answer. Water tank not seated properly..pump unable to draw water from the tank...little giggle here..take out water tank..and put back in..steam everywhere. Problem solved. Set machine up for grinder as recommended, prepared machine..Perfect coffee everytime so far. So..Sunbeam..please amend your manual to include possible steam problems, particularly on first startup and ..who knows some people might still get that great coffee feeling instead of disappointment and have to return the machine DOA on day one. Have a great day. Happy Camper...now..lol. Thank you..online forum people.. MacGregor Bne

Sunbeam torino coffee machine
This machine has to be one of the worst coffee machine ever!! 10 weeks old coffee is very watery not expressing properly tried all trouble shooting, called sunbeam the tech guy went through trouble shooting on the phone and to my amazement told me the machine was fine how he could know that from a phone conversation is beyond me.
Another issue the drip tray fills withe water because it expels so much water while warming up, consequently the tray needs emptying about every 5 cups.

Pre-infusion doesn't work causing inconsistent shots
The coffee shots are very inconsistent because there is no anti-drain back mechanism between the group head and the water tank. Since this machine is volumetric, it counts the water priming as if it were passing into your cup, but it is not.
You can see this by simply operating the manual shot lever with no group head fitted. No water flows out during the pre-infusion because it is priming the water lines. If you pre-prime the machine, you need to fit the head very quickly and pull the shot, before the water drains back too much. The water...
Great machine for Home! Love the look of the machine too
The machine is very easy to use. We use to have the Sunbeam Cafe Series which got a lot use at home but after 6-7 years it was time to get a new machine. If you prefer making the coffee (not using the auto machines) it makes great coffee. We got the Torino grinder as it went with the machine but our old Russell Hobbs grinder has lasted more than 10 years. Hopefully this Torino will be just as good. If you switch Coffee brands you will need to adjust the grind. We switch between 4 brands at the moment so on occasion the grind may be to fine. My ...husband and I have coffee everyday (avg 6 in one day). We have been using coffee machines for approximately 15 years and so far the Torino is performing as well our poor old Cafe Series (Sunbeam). Very happy with this product!
Love my machine-However!!!
This machine replaced my old delonghi fully automatic (which still works by the way). I actually went with the intention of buying a Breville Oracle but was pursuaded by the sales rep. I struggled to get a consistent cup of coffee at first until I went on a home barista course-Theres more to making good coffee than buying a coffee machine. Now a perfect cup of coffee every time. Machine has worked perfectly for the last 2 years and then suddenly decided not to turn on. I rang Sunbeam, who were very helpful and organised for the machine to be looked at. They have now offered to replace the machine FOC. Will will wait to see how long it takes to the new one to arrive

Looks Good but it is rubbish
I purchased this machine as it looked really good and the salesman said it could be used for a small café. I don't have a small café but I was impressed with the look of the machine. at first I could not get it to do anything but I read about removing and reinstalling the tank to clear any airlocks and that seemed to work. After about 2 weeks I noticed that it seemed to struggle to push water through the machine. Then it continued to struggle and I thought maybe I was putting too much coffee in the handle. I reduced the amount slowly and it mad...e a weak coffee as I could not tamp the coffee in the handle. Now it is 1 month old and completely given up. It will not push the water through unless there is no coffee in the handle. Really disappointed with this unit. The grinder that comes with it is not well designed and the handle leaks coffee as it is not empty when making a second cup, so when I empty the grounds it is still half full of the last coffee.
If you're not a coffee snob already, this machine will turn you into one.
As someone with free access to both an industrial, plumbed in cafe style coffee machine at work and the Sunbeam Torino at home, I'm in the fortunate position to be able to draw a direct comparison between the two. The industrial one is a tad faster being always on, but the extent to which the Sunbeam can be programmed to optimise extraction temperature, shot volume and/or length and pressure in order to pursue the elusive perfect cup of Joe makes it the hands down winner. Short of plumbing it in to mains water I can't recommend any improvements.... It really appeals to my inner artisan and I have been loving mine for around 6 months now. I especially like the independent boilers, which means you can extract coffee while steaming milk, and the grinder that is activated by slight down pressure. The styling is steampunk without being weird and suits my house perfectly. Can't recommend it enough.

Steam Wand not working from the start.
I really wished I looked online before venturing from Breville to Sunbeam. The machine looks great.....but I certainly haven't seen it work properly yet. How does a machine not work straight out of the box? The Steam Wand is dead....I have tried what another reviewer has mentioned by pulling the water container out and re-installing and nothing.
Such a pain to carry such a large and heavy machine home for it not to work after going through the whole unpacking process.
Maybe there should be a recall on this machine?
Coffee, coffee, coffee
We bought this machine and grinder to replace our 8 year old machine that was starting to show signs of too much use. The Torino is a step up from what we had and we have been very happy with the coffee that it produces and the ease of use. Very straight forward to use and produces a good quality coffee.
When we first started it up the steamer wouldn't work. I see there are a few reviews with the same comment. All we did was remove the water reservoir and re-seat it, no issues after that. Must be some air lock going on. This machine makes the best coffee, heaps better than any Breville machine I've had, excellent creme. I suggest the people who can't get a creme from this coffee machine need some serious coaching on how to make a coffee. Easy to clean and program, does consume a lot of water so a downside would be having to fill it so often.
Doesn't cut it
Steam wand broke down after 5 days of use. Also could not get a crema on coffee. When we contacted Sunbeam were surprised to learn we couldn't get it repaired unless it went to Sydney no service centre for this machine in Vic. Very disappointing considering the price. Wouldn't recommend this machine at all.

Terrible don't buy this machine
Machine was opened and used once and the steamer stopped working, coffee had no cremma, and I did the call and got ( customer service was good) them to talk me through the changes to coffee grind, which by the way worked better but still spills everywhere not in the hopper, then it leaked for 10 mins after your brew the coffee, so was left with water on top of the coffee all the time sent it back got another one sent to the store opened it and the fist time I tried to steam milk the steamer wouldn't even work so back I went to the store again a...nd refunded so the Harvey Norman store Forster was great to deal with and happy to replace with another brand and refund the rest of the money. I went with the Breville Dynamic Duo Coffee Machine and Grinder and let me tell you coffee was great first coffee but even better after about the 3 cup and the grinder is great no waste. So quite compared to the sunbeam so my advice is don't buy the sunbeam.
Beautiful stylish machine
A high quality nice looking stylish espresso machine with extraction gauge very helpful for obtaining a perfect extract. Price wise think it could come down in price abit as a similar price you could purchase a commercial 2-3 cup espresso machine. It is very limited for storing cups on top and only fits 2 cups no room for anything else only tamp, would've been great if it was wider to hold/warm more cups. The grinder I really wasn't that impressed with it made with lesser inferior materials as opposed to the high quality materials of the espres...so. The hopper is extremely small, a taller wider hopper would have really impressed me but wasn't to be. As far as grinding goes of spits out the coffee everywhere and makes so much mess on the tray, sides and floor with nothing designed to catch it all. The grinder doesn't go together well with this espresso machine materials wise it looks quite tacky but none the less its a bonus to receive with the machine but I think Sunbeam still has room to grow when it comes to designing these but if I had to give a score on the espresso machine I would give it 8/10 for performance and 10/10 for style, look and materials. The hopper I would rate as 4, 5/10.
Hi bought this May 2016. from Harvey Norman (Batch1241532816). steam wand been dripping water since day one.
and every 2-3 days i've got a pool of water under the coffee machine. been trying to call sunbeam customer service hotline and each time put me on hold over 20mins and eventually i just hung up.
We have owned this espresso machine/burr grinder package for six months and we couldn't be happier with it. The espresso machine makes better coffee than any other machine we have owned over a number of years and better than some very highly recommeded Italian machines. The burr grinder is a must if you want the freshest possible grind. The machine is easy to use, it has a fully manual pump for the officionados and a semi automatic button for those who want an easier option. It has very easy to read dials indicating temperature and pressure. Th...e steam wand is excellent. The machine is metal and sits heavily on the bench so there are no vibration problems. Importantly for brain health, there is no aluminium in the machine, unlike some other recommended brands. The machine itself is beautiful to look at, the exterior is stainless steel and in spite of levers etc. it is very easy to clean with a slightly damp microcloth. The burr grinder needed some setting adjustments to get the perfect espresso grind the first week we used it but after that it settled and we have not had to adjust it since. The only niggle I have is that the espresso machine did not come with the plastic cover for the water reservoir, nor the cleaning pin for the grind baskets as mentioned in the manual. Sunbeam supplied the pin separately after two requests but the plastic reservoir lid is no longer available which is a bit if a shame as it would seal the water unit, unlike the metal lid on top of the machine. But overall, we are very happy indeed with this beautiful machine and burr grinder, which together, are a better buy than buying them separately. Sunbeam have a good reputation for producing esspresso machines and we have been happy with cheaper models before, but there is no mistaking the much higher quality of this machine package. This is quite an expensive buy, but the quality is noticeable and it is worth thecextra money. We managed to find it quite a lot cheaper than the RRP, so shop around. We marvel at these two products daily, so we would highly recommend the package.

Questions & Answers
Our machine is just over 2 years old and it is experiencing irregular pump pressure, causing it to spurt out everywhere. We have tried a few times with same result. It has been through a couple of cleans no difference. Was working fine before this
My steam wand won’t spert water. Just pumps to heat up at the start and that’s it.
Hello Jacinta N.
So sorry to hear about this, could I ask:
1. Have you preformed all the advised cleaning steps for this problem?
2. How long have you had this unit?
I have also cleaned the machine twice, and the word CLEAN still shows, I followed the advice on page 23 to reset the machine, but when I hit the + button, the word CLEAN appears again.
Hello Richard B,
Try pressing the CLEAN button for a few seconds, and the machine will return to READY mode on the LCD display.
For more tips on how to get the most from your Sunbeam Torino Espresso Machine follow the below link:
I’m in the same boat. Have cleaned both CO and ST several times. Pressing the Clean button for a few seconds does nothing. CLEAN is still on the LCD
I had the same frustrating problem. I spoke with a bloke at sunbeam customer care, & he emailed me step-by-step cleaning instructions. Very similar to the manual, but im thinking the machine is a bit finicky on exact steps. Mines all fixed just by carefully following new instructions to the letter!!
