Swann DVR4-3425

Not what it promises! – After a few acts of vandalism to my property (& police not helping out) I went to visit to my local JB-hi fi to see what they had in security camera system I normally see product review first when making 100% of my large purchases, but sadly this time was that one time I didn’t - I wish I had! The sales rep talked up this product so much & the ease of installation etc, but the price & the fact I can check on my ph anywhere had me sold

Knowing I physically couldn’t set this up I waited for months (with a promise of installation by a family friend) this never happened! So then I had a few quotes to install by professionals - from reasonably to $700!! - more than the system was worth! But they all didn’t recommend me to use this product due to the poor picture quality & general quality of the product! They all said for me to use proper good quality security cameras (but I didn’t have over $2,000 to spare)!

Next was the installation nightmare - The CD didn’t play in 6 players & computers we have & we even borrowed a player!

But also buys please note that even if it does say lifetime support it’s a long wait time on the ph & they can only give over the ph suoport !

They can’t recomend an installer for this product - so unless you actually know someone or can do it yourself (min 2 person for this install) then be ready to pay extra

I’m not a technical person, so I relied on the trained staff at jb hifi- I was given wrong information

1st I was told when I install the system to then register - WRONG- you need to register within 30 days of purchase (I had kept the box sealed till about a week ago when I was fed up & tried to set up myself (with physical help from hubby)

2nd. Staff members shouldn’t give out wrong information to customers just to sell an item ! The 960H doesn’t stand for high definition !!

it claims on the side of the box “see the difference in 960H” not very clear - can’t even make out car plates that are 5meters away!!!

You have to be right up to the camera for a very very clear image

My old iPhone has better & clearer images !!

It also states it’s a Professional security system (the professionals I’ve spoken to don’t recommend this product at all)

So if you really want a good system, see other companies out there- see product reviews & save up for a good system

At least you have Aussie support that’s quick. Not just a lenghtly ph wait for only over the phone support !

I unfortunately didn’t have the funds & my own fault for not reading reviews first !

Swann need to get their act together and also improve quality control – Actual model is DVR4-3425 950h may or may not be quite the same but I think it is! Bought and registered July 14 2015. Unfortunately bought from Dick Smith Australia. The original company that went broke a short time later. Ended up having to deal direct with Swann. I have given this a 4star rating because the high definition pictures both night and day are of outstanding quality

At about the 12 month time from installation one camera developed an unusual pattern across the visual and recorded output. Checked by installing it on two other leads and it was faulty so decided to live with three. Swann lose 1 star in the rating for a poor response system when things go wrong. I suspect I was talking to a person in a call centre where english was not the first language. This is becoming a major problem with so many Australian companies. The follow-up email that I finally managed to get because I have hearing aids and could not understand the call centre person, required an extensive and ridiculous test of the cameras, by removal of most leads and cameras and everything else. On a multi camera setup the leads can be 30 metre long and installed high up in 2 story buildings. NOTE. you cannot return a product for examination /replacement under the guarantee unless Swann issue a return number, after you do as requested.
