Buggy with terrible tech support – Setup of this system is easy enough, that much is pretty good. The real grief starts when the cams became buggy, one after the other, and tech support were really frustrating to deal with. One cam was blurry, others all had night vision issues. This is one of those companies who you have to jump on their back continuously, for months on end, because i think they know most people just give up. Before the warranty ran out I made a last attempt to get my cameras looked at, and ended up furious with the tech support arrogance i encountered. This aspect is not worth the hassle of purchasing swann for me again.
Cheaper system, buggy console unit, nice camera resolution, but unreliable – Paid half price from www.swannstore.com.au. Easy to install, DIY. Everything you need is in the package, including cables, screws, etc. Nice camera resolution 1 Megapix. Nice and working smartphone apps for remove viewing (works in iPhone 5 and Moto G). However, I experience some problems. Helpdesk is easy to reach but they are pretty useless. Here is a list of some of my issues:
a. Scheduled recording not always working. Need a console restart to make it works.
b. If it is recording, it will only record the first session. Further sessions not recorded, although the camera icon is displayed on the console (meaning the system is recording), however it is not recording at all.
c. After several days of continuous operations, the remote viewing won't work until the system is restarted.
d. Tried to get around the issues by enabling regular auto reboot, however this only made things worse. The mouse not working, needed to plug the power off or use remote control to shut it down properly.
And several other issues.
Yesterday, found out that one of the cameras's IR function is no longer working. Can't monitor properly in the dark. Frustrating and wasting time. Considering to return the item, if possible.
Effective, priced right for home users however not impressed – My system was purchased through Catchoftheday.com.au Pty Ltd and not direct from Swann. This model DVR system comes with 4 x cameras (SWNHD-805CAM). The system interface is relatively easy to use, some features aren't for beginners however most area's are easy enough to navigate. Shortly after installation, I noted one camera had the infrared filter stuck in the ON position, meaning the view was red during the daylight hours, not a major issue. Shortly after the first a 2nd went and then later a 3rd had the opposite problem being the filter was stuff OFF meaning it was useless at night. The return process was simple however it costs the user money. About a week after sending the 3 cameras away for repair the 4th camera became fault. Needless to say my experience hasn't been great hence the review.
