Not as effective as initially
I bought this when it first became available and it worked. The ants were attracted to it, " ate it" and they disappeared for "a while"
They are now back , have used the gel again in a couple different areas, this time they aren't even attracted to it and in fact avoid it, plus it dries up very quickly.
We have pets so could not use ant sand type products so tried several sprays but a few hours later the ant trails were back. We had 2 trails coming in from the garden beds across the patio to the table & chairs where they disappeared. Also a couple trails coming into the verandah but along the roof line - spraying those didn't work & the spray dripped to the ground.....so after having the Talon Gel recommended & reading the reviews here decided to give it a try. We were lucky & found it on special @ $6.50 so bought 2 tubes. 1st application - so...me of the dabs of gel were over run with ants & others were ignored but I was hopeful. Next day the dabs were gone but ants still there although in lower numbers so I dabbed again. It took both tubes to get rid of the roof trails & I bought another 2 tubes @ $8 each to get the floor trails. At first the ants went nuts & tried to move the nest but I dabbed again & low & behold they died & within a week of the 1st application they were all gone. This gel is NOT cheap but it's the only thing that's worked for more than a few hours & 3 weeks later there is still no sign of ants.
It works really well
Ants have always been a problem at my childhood home. Thankfully, we came across the killer gel and started using it regularly in different parts of the house. This one is a bit more expensive than other insect killers but it works really well. In about less than a week, we were able to completely rid our house and property of ants.
Works great for us
We get a lot of ants each year during the warm seasons. The ants are small and brown, but not tiny.
In our case, this product works very well. We place it at the ant trails outside, and it seems to last about a day before drying up or being completely eaten by the ants. The ants disappear after a day or two.
The product is expensive, but it works for us and the type of ants we get.
I had almost given up hope until I found this
For years I had a black house ants' nest somewhere between the wall frames of my bathroom so they were extremely hard to kill at the source. I'd reseal the tiny holes they'd make in the corner of my window frames and walls but they'd always still find a way back through!
I tried natural methods (vinegar, diatomaceous earth) which worked in deterring them temporarily but they weren't long term solutions for me. FINALLY I found this product and the instant I put the gel down where the ants were entering from they swarmed at it!
In the begin...ning the number of ants increased significantly (which ironically is a good sign!). I then noticed after a few hours the numbers were gradually dying off as they went back to their nest. It's been 24 hours and I haven't seen a single ant since! I stand by this product and think it's a great solution to stubborn black house ant problems. So happy I found this :)

I don't have an ant problem inside the house but I was tired of the heavy ant trails on the verandah and up the bricks into the roof. I suspected they had a nest in the roof, in a large pot plant on the verandah and in our outdoor furniture (aluminium tubing) also on the verandah. I placed some of the bait in strategic places.
Three days later I found that watering the plant didn't result in ants climbing the stems of the plant like it used to. Nest destroyed.
Then I noticed bunches of dead ants and their eggs on the verandah under the ...outdoor furniture. Nest destroyed. I presume the same has happened in the roof but of course I can't see that, and for now I'm still working on that area until I see a drop in activity. No doubt I'll have to monitor the situation to keep on top of things but I'm very happy with this product. I bought it at Coles for $8.00 but I just bought some more on special for $6.40.
Very good ant killer
We were nothing short of infested, nests in the roof & walls, brick boundary fence, TV and air conditioner. Tried other ant removing products which didn't work but it has taken 13 tubes of Talon ant gel so far and the ants have eaten most of it and seem to finally be thinning out, now the dead ants are starting to pile up, which is great to finally happen.
DOES NOT WORK
Very tiny black ants - I just saw two ants and plopped a bit of the gel near each one and watched them walk quickly away! They are supposed to eat the stuff and take it back to their nests. If they could each have hopped on a tiny motorcycle and speed away from the gel, I'm certain they would have. They won't go near the stuff. I put the gel down a few days ago and I'm still seeing the ants in the same area on the kitchen counter around the sink. If you think they're gone, look again ... and very closely with these tiny buggers, especially on a black counter top! It's Borax and sugar now (1 tbsp. of each in a jar lid)!!! Waste of money!
If it was a person I'd marry it!
Best stuff since sliced bread. Living in an area that has numerous ant varieties, I have found this to be the best product. Have tried all the ant powders, granules, ant rid etc. Hands down this beats the lot. Bull ants, green ants, black ants, have all mostly been eliminated. My biggest problem is that I have a huge colony beneath my double driveway. With the powder or granules, they just make another exit on the opposite side to the holes that have been treated. Talon gets taken back to the nest so I sometimes see 6 months go by without an ant problem.
It Works and i have used it heaps.
I use Ant Rid for the 1mm long Ants and Talon for the 2mm long Ants.
1mm long Ants do not like Talon at all but love Ant Rid.
2mm Long Ants do not like Ant Rid but love to eat Talon Gel.
I went to Woolys today and to my surprise didn't find any Talon on the Shelves so I will have to buy from EBay.
An absolutely superb product ruined by expensive packaging.
This is probably the only product effective in the control of small black ants.
However the product is rendered prohibitively expensive due to the small and uneconomic packaging in which it is supplied. This is a terrible pity and probably discourages some users who might otherwise be regular users.
I am surprised to eye negative reviews as in my experience this is the only ant killer on the market which is of any interest to black ants which totally ignore all other commercially available ant killers.
Please Sellys fix this.
July 9th 201...7 Update: Still no positive action on excessive packaging making product uncompetitive As far as I know my original review was the one which started this string and I am advised that it has been viewed many times. The original sets out my view that This is an excellent product rendered commercially ineffective by expensive and wasteful packaging to the extent that most major retailers have ceased to stock it. It would seem that the nearly 3000 people who have read my review does not include a member of Sellys management who has the brains to take action to change this product from a superbly effective firing product into a market leader. All they need to do is to adjust the packaging to make the product more cost effective and the major players such as supermarkets and Bunnings would probably start stocking it again Sellys would make a lot more money and we could begin to win the ongoing battle with the black ants!
Five Talon Tubes didn't have any noticeable effect
I bought Talon after reading the reviews to stop the trails of very small black ants whose ant trails were ever increasing in new "troops".
Have given away Ant Rid and Borax as a waste of time and enthusiastically squeezed out my first lot of Talon (from two tubes) to the various ant trails I had as per the directions on the pack and awaiting the 48 hour window. Just to ensure success though I purchased one more tube before the allotted time and again laid this down as directions. After 48 hours and many trips to monitor the ant trails I thou...
Questions & Answers
We have been poisoning ants in our home with talon ant gel for over a week now, ants just love it however still no sign of any effect on the ant numbers. We have used three syringes so far but the ants are still there. How long does it take before the ants start to die?
My ants died within a day there were no more ants.
I put a little in various locations around their ant trail, so if they missed one, they would get to another.
I guess you need to get to the queen, If you can find the trail closest to the queen I would put quite a bit there and do not leave other food lying around, like dog/cat food etc.
The ants you are battling are probably may be Argentine ants, tiny bronze coloured things, They build super colonies. There are multiple queens in the colony. If your infestation is severe it will take time and patience. Baiting is more effective during winter months as natural food sources become harder to find. Learning all that you can, there is plenty of information online about any pest species online, leaves you better equipped to understand and therefore control them.
