Where can you get replacement blades for these?
Can anyone tell me where I can obtain replacement blades for these? A bit of wire that had grown into a tree branch got put through my mulcher and resulted in a broken blade. I guess one way to get around the problem might be to take the old blades to an engineering works and ask them to make me some. I'm not sure what they would charge. Another brand has a very similar blade, which should fit, providing the two ends are filed down by a few mms. They are basically the same blade, just a few mms longer and the holes are slightly smaller too, so ...
Read morewould need to be redrilled. I've searched the internet for replacement blades, but it seems that nobody is making them, not even Talon. Pros: Good when working. Cons: Can't replace blades easily! Had only just purchased it and then found out they were not making replacement parts for it!!4 comments
Ryobi, McCulloch and Worx put their brands on the identical machine that Talon labelled Model As200100, so that any of their blades will fit the As200100. Moreover, my local Mitre10 has ten packs of T...
Read morealon-branded shredder blades that fit my As200100, so I assume other stores might have stocks. N.B. Dont use the Al-Ko blades: They are too hard (literally!) to modify safely.I live in the bush and the nearest city stocks nothing. If they do order things in specially they charge like a wounded bull. So I have converted my Talon for use with AL-KO blades which are easy to o...
Read morebtain through the post. Although it was hard to do, it was not impossible, given my careful engineering skills, and it works great. I kept the old blade assembly which also fits, so I can now interchange with Ryobi now. I have enough blades now to outlast the life of the machine! By the way I had contacted Ryobi prior to doing the retrofit and they refused to send me the specifications on their blades. So I went ahead with the retrofit. Some months later I saw the first Ryobi blades on the shelves in our local hardware store and straight away realized they would fit the original Talon assembly. Such is life in the bush. You either make do or you do without.gusmundo

Goes blunt too quickly, and is too expensive.
Not worth the money, u can get 10x more multch for the money. The mulch you get out of a set of $20 blades will cover the same area as a bag of sugar cane
It breaks down way too regularly and the blades are made With inferior product ( need to sharpen blades after every large mulching session).
If you buy a mulcher, Think twice before buying any low end item.
The Leaf tray is also a waste of time, a regular lawn mover does a better job and is much quicker to mulch leaves.
Convenient. Good warranty, I had 2 issues within warranty that were covered.
Unreliable. broke down twice. Blocks up too easily. Goes blunt too quickly. Definitely not worth the money

This mulcher is not recommended for heavy duty work. It is okay for general softwood garden material. Dry branches should never be fed through, and I find that hardwood branches (e.g. gum trees) are f...
Read morear too tough for this shredder to cope with. I am in full agreement with the comment about the leaf mulcher. It is hopeless. Due to what appears to be a design fault, leaves are extremely difficult and awkward to feed into the mulcher. Apparently there is (was?) a couple of plastic poking tools that Talon manufactured at one time to help push such material down into the hopper neck. You can find these products listed on the Talon Australia website, but whether they are still available I am not sure.Questions & Answers

Try Bunnings Special Orders. They used to sell the Talon brand.
Alternatively, detach your cutter head and take it in to Bunnings and compare it with the Ozito shredder they're currently selling. It looks like it came out of the same factory as the Talon brand, might be an interchangeable head.
With a lot of those items, sadly, you can find yourself up for an expensive part (and no guarantee) whereas for a few $ more, you can get a complete new unit, with a guarantee. (And your old unit is now rubbish). The head and the blades will be the most expensive part of the tool apart from the motor (maybe).
And while I'm content with my Talon at the price I paid for it and the amount of work I ask of it, I wouldn't buy one again. I'd go for the more expensive grinder-shredder machines, as against something with whirling little blades that are difficult to sharpen. (And easy to cut yourself with!)

Start with Bunnings Special orders. They aren't sold by Bunnings under the same name anymore, but identical items are being sold under different labels.
A quick Google turned up:

Which looks like the right part. They also have the weirdo screws at $2.75 ea - probably worth it, $11 for 4 screws. But! - I can't verify that this is a good company, I've never dealt with them.
I have sharpened my old blades on a belt sander - but even with gloves and locking pliers this is very dangerous. And you have to keep them cool, dunk them in water, or the steel loses its tempering; becomes soft.

I have done some research into the blades and it seems the Ryobi RGS1500 and also one of the McCulloch shredders (not sure which brand) use the same blades as the Talon AS200100. Also AL-KO are simila...
Read morer; only the holes are around 8mm instead of 10mm and the blades are about 5mm longer. So you will need to drill out the holes a bit larger on the AL-KO blades and file a bit off the ends.
