Perfect when pruning trees.

published

A must for all who prune trees around yard. Saves trips to the dump. I love the machine, the only thing it does not do green grass. It jams the machine. Blade on machine is excellent . Easy to clean. Easy to use. small enough for me to move on my own but strong enough to mulch most branches. Portable do can move around yard easily.

Useless

I loved it when it was new. It worked very well.
Unhappy that they gone out of business and no spare blades are available.
Can no longer get new blades for the Tallon shredder.
It was a good shredder.
Cannot get new blades

You could always take old blades to an engineering works. I'm sure they could make some for you fairly cheaply.

Good machine for the price. Would like a larger chute for branches, as it gets stuck at most forks in the branch. Overall, it does a sterling job!
Very quiet motor & chews branches very quickly. Mulched up 6 trees in 6 days without much problem. Just kept on going!
Blockes up occasionally in the exit chute, and the cutting blades need sharpening occasionally.

Very pleased with the machine have done quite a lot of shredding over the last year. Some very hard wood as well is quickly shredded. Often needed to sharpen the branch chipping blades and the main mulching blade broke in half.
Easy to use and move around. Good size mulch produced
Chipping blades blunt-en quickly

Good value

It is quiet and works as described - it tells you not to use it for wet/fibrous plants. It will mulch these, but you will need to manually empty it out from time to time as it will clog. It could be a little taller to prevent backache, but in the end I sat down and fed everything through. It chomps through hardwood and even palm fronds that are well dried out with no problems. I am glad I bought it
Quiet, produces great mulch
Bit too low, protective flaps a little difficult to get through for clippings

Try Bunnings Special Orders. They used to sell the Talon brand.
Alternatively, detach your cutter head and take it in to Bunnings and compare it with the Ozito shredder they're currently selling. It looks like it came out of the same factory as the Talon brand, might be an interchangeable head.

With a lot of those items, sadly, you can find yourself up for an expensive part (and no guarantee) whereas for a few $ more, you can get a complete new unit, with a guarantee. (And your old unit is now rubbish). The head and the blades will be the most expensive part of the tool apart from the motor (maybe).

And while I'm content with my Talon at the price I paid for it and the amount of work I ask of it, I wouldn't buy one again. I'd go for the more expensive grinder-shredder machines, as against something with whirling little blades that are difficult to sharpen. (And easy to cut yourself with!)

Start with Bunnings Special orders. They aren't sold by Bunnings under the same name anymore, but identical items are being sold under different labels.
A quick Google turned up:
https://www.outdoorking.com/chippers-shredders/talon-chipper-parts/talon-ryobi-mcculloch-homelite-chipper-blade-579250001
Which looks like the right part. They also have the weirdo screws at $2.75 ea - probably worth it, $11 for 4 screws. But! - I can't verify that this is a good company, I've never dealt with them.

I have sharpened my old blades on a belt sander - but even with gloves and locking pliers this is very dangerous. And you have to keep them cool, dunk them in water, or the steel loses its tempering; becomes soft.
