Good; with limitations
I've had this a long time now (10-15 years) - a previous model; 2400w rating. Purchased at Bunnings on a 'super-special'. Good points: gets the job done. Eventually!
Anyone buying 'a new one' should note: There's two kinds of shredder; 'blades' like this one - mulches in a manner like a lawnmower, speed essential - and 'cogs' - which crush the material between gears and are low-speed. If I was buying again, that's what I'd get (but it might be more expensive).
Negative points (for this model) - when it clogs, there a hand-unscrew bolt (...Read more
Purchased in July 2005 at Bunnings Warehouse for A$150.00.

Perfect when pruning trees.
A must for all who prune trees around yard. Saves trips to the dump. I love the machine, the only thing it does not do green grass. It jams the machine. Blade on machine is excellent . Easy to clean. Easy to use. small enough for me to move on my own but strong enough to mulch most branches. Portable do can move around yard easily.

Good product, works well for size.
i bought mine second hand 2017, found the mulcher/chipper eats branches, leaves, sticks with ease. take your time. mulch comes out a good size around 1/2 to 1 inch. Do not feed old dry hard wood in this machine, you will burn the motor out. Keep the blades sharp, easy job with a angle grinder on slow speed. Can buy new blades for $5.80 a pair #2001, from eBay with free post. You can retemper the blades AFTER you sharpen them by heating each blade on the gas to a straw color, wear your glasses, hold the blade with vice grips, then quench (dip) i...Read more
n oil or water, this will harden them. Just heat the cutting edges AFTER you sharpen them. If you want to un harden the blades to sharpen then just reheat to bright red but don't quench them. if you sharpen the blades and don't reharden them the blades will blunt very quickly because of the heat of the grinder. This is the way I do the blades. One more thing don't put any WET branches or leaves through the mulcher, it will clog up. This Talon mulcher is one of the best electric ones on the market. I have had a few petrol and electric types over the past 40 years. Look after it and it will serve you well. Happy mulching. G.W.Similar opinion? Write a review on ProductReview.com.au!

Great Shredder
Have been using this shredder for a while now and have to say it does the job. This unit is also sold by other companies here in Australia and around the world under other names. Have read some negative comments, some of which are not realistic, These are my thoughts:
- It doesn't make excessive noise. It is quieter than some other units of this size
- The shredding size is not too fine or large and is ok for garden mulch or for use in the compost
- It cuts long stringy grass leaves (Lemon Grass) without a problem
- It will block if too m...Read more

Ok for this type of design
Been using it for light brush (Lilly Pilly), ivy, plane tree leaves etc for 6 years on a 1/4 acre city block so not exactly demanding workload. Forget wet material - it'll clog in a flash and removing the cowl to clear the blockage is not a one step operation. I've just had the 'V" blades disintegrate but the very thick metal body meant no parts escaped - if they had, it could have been a concerns as the blades are chunky. Alton Mower Power have been helpful and found spare blades and even the base which holds the 'V" up right blades which also...Read more
didn't fare well after the above incident. A good unit but not one I'd rush out and buy again. An average perfromer for an electric unit of this design. Blocks in a moment if wet or fibrous (ivy) material used. Don't use it without eye or ear protection.1 comment

Useless
I loved it when it was new. It worked very well.
Unhappy that they gone out of business and no spare blades are available.
Can no longer get new blades for the Tallon shredder.
It was a good shredder.
Cannot get new blades

You could always take old blades to an engineering works. I'm sure they could make some for you fairly cheaply.
I have done some research into the blades and it seems the Ryobi RGS1500 and also one of the McCulloch shredders (not sure which brand) use the same blades as the Talon AS200100. Also AL-KO are simila... Read more
r; only the holes are around 8mm instead of 10mm and the blades are about 5mm longer. So you will need to drill out the holes a bit larger on the AL-KO blades and file a bit off the ends.My local Mitre 10 has blades to suit the Talon AS200100 mulcher for $23 per pair. They have at least ten packs and they are branded Talon. The blades did not seem hard to find, and they certainly fit... Read more
my As200100 shredder which has proved an excellent machine. It is identical to other differenty-branded shredders made by Mcculloch, Worx and Ryobi, so I assume it is a generic brand made somewhere in China.Similar opinion? Write a review on ProductReview.com.au!

Good
Good machine for the price. Would like a larger chute for branches, as it gets stuck at most forks in the branch. Overall, it does a sterling job!
Very quiet motor & chews branches very quickly. Mulched up 6 trees in 6 days without much problem. Just kept on going!
Blockes up occasionally in the exit chute, and the cutting blades need sharpening occasionally.

Good
Very pleased with the machine have done quite a lot of shredding over the last year. Some very hard wood as well is quickly shredded. Often needed to sharpen the branch chipping blades and the main mulching blade broke in half.
Easy to use and move around. Good size mulch produced
Chipping blades blunt-en quickly

Good value
It is quiet and works as described - it tells you not to use it for wet/fibrous plants. It will mulch these, but you will need to manually empty it out from time to time as it will clog. It could be a little taller to prevent backache, but in the end I sat down and fed everything through. It chomps through hardwood and even palm fronds that are well dried out with no problems. I am glad I bought it
Quiet, produces great mulch
Bit too low, protective flaps a little difficult to get through for clippings

Try Bunnings Special Orders. They used to sell the Talon brand.
Alternatively, detach your cutter head and take it in to Bunnings and compare it with the Ozito shredder they're currently selling. It looks like it came out of the same factory as the Talon brand, might be an interchangeable head.
With a lot of those items, sadly, you can find yourself up for an expensive part (and no guarantee) whereas for a few $ more, you can get a complete new unit, with a guarantee. (And your old unit is now rubbish). The head and the blades will be the most expensive part of the tool apart from the motor (maybe).
And while I'm content with my Talon at the price I paid for it and the amount of work I ask of it, I wouldn't buy one again. I'd go for the more expensive grinder-shredder machines, as against something with whirling little blades that are difficult to sharpen. (And easy to cut yourself with!)

Start with Bunnings Special orders. They aren't sold by Bunnings under the same name anymore, but identical items are being sold under different labels.
A quick Google turned up:
https://www.outdoorking.com/chippers-shredders/talon-chipper-parts/talon-ryobi-mcculloch-homelite-chipper-blade-579250001
Which looks like the right part. They also have the weirdo screws at $2.75 ea - probably worth it, $11 for 4 screws. But! - I can't verify that this is a good company, I've never dealt with them.
I have sharpened my old blades on a belt sander - but even with gloves and locking pliers this is very dangerous. And you have to keep them cool, dunk them in water, or the steel loses its tempering; becomes soft.

I wish I hadn't spent my money on this shredder. It blocks up VERY quickly when shredding green stuff, especially grassy weeds. The countersunk screws that hold the blade on are soft, so I can't remov... Read more
e the blades for sharpening. Blockages are not easily cleared as the bolts that hold down the feed chute are difficult to undo and retighten. To make it more usable, I had to remove the delivery chute guard, and also remove the feed top so I could extend it higher. If it is used solely for small dry twigs it might be ok. Also, ensure that material to be shredded has no dirt at all, or the blades will blunten very quickly -and this increases the magnitude or the problems mentioned. On a positive note, the thermal overload device works well!
