Great value and versatile
I am a serial non-ironer, so my daily fashion is dictated by whatever doesn't need ironing every morning. I thought a garment steamer might be a reasonable way to increase my morning choices. I did a lot of research and looked up Choice. Generally the reviews are mixed - expensive steamers with hangers and gizmos do fairly well (not always), but reviews about small hand-helds are mixed. I wanted something I could heat up quickly, hold in my hand, is portable, and to get a quick fix on a wrinkly garment. Based on my research I planned to purchas...e the Kambrook hand steamer, but as I was searching for it, clever Google algorithms led me to the Target model instead. They look similar, but the Target model had some great reviews, was $10 cheaper, and available at my local Target Country (!!). My test product was a fine, white, cotton sleeveless blouse with frilly neckline. I have to say it wasn't an instant success - I tried to steam it too quickly, the steamer didn't handle the frills well, the fabric was too fine to get traction against the steamer, and the white fabric showed all the creases. However, when I tried it on heavier cotton - a stiffer cotton top; a couple of dresses and patterned shirts - the results were exactly what I'd hoped. The dresses gave the best results - in less than 3 minutes, they were completely wearable, and pleats were convincingly tidy. The patterned shirts weren't perfect, but wearable, and the pattern hid most of the imperfections. I think it would be great to get the crease marks out of trousers after they'd been hanging too. The next success was on some of my daughter's soft-toys which had been contaminated. The steam made it really easy to get around odd angles, kill the bugs, and they looked quite a lot fresher afterwards. I would use it on upholstery that is difficult to get to in other ways (after a small test). The water reservoir lasted for at least 10 minutes each time. It did get heavy after a while, but it would be fine for one or two garments - which is what I got it for. There is no way to vary the steam intensity, but I can't see why I would need that. Great value for $39!
