Runny!! Finish a pain but good result eventually
A struggle to get this paint on consistently/thick enough to give a good result. It is so runny when put on at an amount that covers well.
I used this paint for kids bunk beds. Just a nightmare avoiding drips/runs. Hoped for two coats but because of runs on the second and having to sand them that I missed had to do three. BUT after three coats and really being careful the finish has come up great. I used Taubmans 3 in 1 prep as undercoat.
Importantly for furniture in kids room this is very low odor, actually a slight pleasant smell if anythi...ng. So far is wearing well no chips or anything. Costly paint but covers well had a lot more left over than expected but not sure where I'll be able to use hot pink enamel.. It is important to know that if you want a good finish and do not care about smell that takes days to go away/curing time get Oil Based instead. I did all doors/skirting/trim with oil based when painting house and it is genuinely enjoyable to paint with as opposed to the headache that is water based enamel.
Purchased in October 2020 for A$85.00.
Found it impossible to get a good looking finish on the doors and trims I was painting. Trims are cover in brush marks no matter what I tried to do. The doors I rolled, tried different rollers, sanded between coats, multiple coats but just could not get a smooth streak free finish.
Awful, absolutely awful!
Went to Bunnings for an oil based trim paint and was recommended this instead. As a novice painter, I assumed the streaks and runs were due to my inexperience but the coverage was almost zero. Left the first coat for a full day to cure to no avail. It's more like a tinted gloss. Almost completely see through. I'm so annoyed that I paid $50 for 1ltre of this rubbish when Aldi sell (less crappy) gloss paint for $12 a litre!
Terrible to use
I sanded door trims to fine finish, finish from prior tradesperson was average. Spent hours sanding filling then two coats 3 in 1 primer surfacer. Sanded lightly then put first coat of colour, white, and within seconds of applying would skin so could not spread coat out to even finish leaving heavy brush marks. I am not impressed at all. Unluckily paid by credit card and itemized Bunnings receipt thrown out. Also bought colour for door, now sorry I bought Taubmans Ultimate Enamel.
Strong paint odour
I have been airing out the room for 3 days, but it still has a very strong paint smell. Only painted the trim around one door and one window. And the room reeks. It smells like turps paint. There is no way that this product is low VOC. False advertising, this paint is not low odour.
Not happy with this product, and found it very difficult to apply with any satisfactory result.
I bought 10 litres of this Ultimate for painting windows and skirting boards etc. the first tin of paint had coagulated into something like cottage cheese. Bunnings replaced it. The second tin, when I started painting, it rapidly became clear to me that this product just ruined any previous prep work. I found it's impossible to over-paint after about two minutes, and found brush marks are virtually impossible to remove. Thankfully Bunnings refunded, and I bought 10 l of an oil based semi-gloss, Now happy!
Sorry Taubmans Water Based Enamel, you fail
Thus would have to be the most frustrating, infuriating paint that I have ever used. It goes on like thin grease, with roller marks impossible to blend in. This paint does not "flash over" like any half decent paint would, and this is a paint that I wouldn't paint our dog house in. One star and that is more than it deserves.
Taubmans Ultimate Enamel (water based alkyd enamel)
Normally I wouldn't bother doing a review, however this product gave really good results and its hard to find good paints for my business as a few paints have been discontinued. We've been using high end paints for over 30 years.
Minor issue - its important to let the paint cure properly as it seems to take a bit longer than normal water based acrylics. I have really tested this product as we need to know if any new paints will work for us. If your interested copy this address in your browser for what I've found.
http://absolutesignsolution...s.com/signwriting-home/Contact-Us/Blog/Blog-Post?&BlogID=236&BlogCollectionsID=2 Follow up - 2 months later Paint is now totally cured. A nice hard durable finish. Follow up - 20 months on paint is still just like new. We've applied the Taubmans alkyd enamel to flat surfaces in the sun. It is easier than normal acrylic or enamel as it take a while to tack off. You need to use a low nap microfibre roller for best results rather than a brush as its quite thick.
several coats poor results
Very disappoint spent lots of time applying, will have to go and purchase a better quality paint tomorrow and start again.
Was recommend in paints department of bunnings, and to make it worse I have lost receipt so total loss of time and money.
I was not happy after six coats the worst paint I have ever used.
Nice finish but peels off even after undercoat and sanding
Bought the water based Taubmans EasyCoat wall and Semi-gloss trim - wall paint was great, primer was great--- but the trim has been a nightmare. First time painted all the trim and doors and then found it peeled it off -well, I figured that was my mistake as I didn't put down a prep coat.
So I peeled off all the paint back to original, sanded lightly, bought the undercoat and started over again. The coverage is poor, after 4 coats the white still looks splotchy over the olive original trim, and even with a streak-free trim brush, it ...leaves marks - no leveling of the pant. It dries fast, even on the brush which after 2 doors of trim means washing out the brush completely or you get bits flaking into your work. And the qoear bit? After 4 coats now and all the prep work - the slightest scratch or bump of a dry door and the paint peels back to original! All I can hope for is that it will "cure" over a few months or these doors are going to look awful with the lightest touch. I'm complaining to Taubmans - love all the other paint products but the waterbased enamel is awful - don't touch it. Semi-gloss enamel finish looks nice Peeling even after proper preparation and 4 coats, No leveling - leaves streaks, Poor coverage several coats needed, Dries quickly on the brush
Questions & Answers
Hi everyone does anybody suggest good water based semi gloss paint other than dulux aquanamel semi gloss
have used this and results are not good it dries very quickly and results are not good. any paint that easy to apply any suggestion will be appreciated.
Yep Ive used Taubmans Ultimate enamel which is water based but slower drying so you have time to get a really good finish.
It dries quicker than oil based enamel and easy to clean up. My experience this time of year is to let it cure for a week before it gets any abuse. It takes a litle bit to harden up. I've got more info on my blog page. Ive been trying to find new paints for my business as some have gone off the market unfortunately.
