Srangest EPG I've ever come across
I originally gave this product a VERY bad review because after using it almost exclusively on "A/V source" with a transmitter from our living room for over a year, I wanted to watch something on a digital channel and found that the EPG would only show the programs currently playing and no matter what I tried, I couldn't get it to do what every other EPG I've ever used could do and show me the channel's programming for the rest of the day no matter what I tried. We had a professional installer install and set up numerous TVs, DVD/Blueray players...and sound equipment and all the user manuals were given to us by him & stored in a drawer. When I looked for the TCL's manual it was nowhere to be found so I can only assume it was not in the box when we bought the TV. I logged on to TCL's website to try downloading a .PDF copy of the guide but, as the model has been discontinued, there is no mention of it even in the "Products Archive" section. It's like they had never made the L50S4700FS. I then rang TCL Australia's "Tech Support" line in The Phillipines. After explaining the problem and trying all the obvious things again, the girl suggested I take some photos and attach them to an email outlining the problem in detail to their service centre. She also promised to send me a copy of the User Guide immediately. I sent the (very detailed) email along with a request for the User Guide which had yet to be sent. The response from the Service Dept totally unhelpful and after another 2 emails asking for an answer and asking for a PDF copy of the manual, I finally gave up and went to my local Joyce Mayne store along with a copy of my extended warranty agreement in the hope that they'd replace it with another TV. Their response was that I'd left it too late to ask for a replacement but they'd try to contact the manufacturer's agent and see if they could help. Just when I thought I was stuck with a malfunctioning TV, one of the sales staff ([name removed] from Warrawong,) remembered that he'd had a customer with a similar problem a couple of years earlier and here is what he told me:- after opening the EPG you need to scroll up to the very 1st channel on the list & then press the up arrow from there to first select the date you wish to view, then go up 1 more to "Channel" & press "OK". It will finally display the programming for the channel you are watching ONLY. From there it's possible to schedule programs for reminders or to record on a PVR. It is a VERY illogical and counter-intuative EPG but it DOES work. now that this has been sorted, I believe the TCL S4700 model is a good value "budget" Smart TV with reasonable audio and picture resolution. Just don't lose the remote as there are no control buttons on the set. TCL's tech support was no help at all... Still no User Manual.
Very happy with picture quality
This TV has excellent picture quality. It's not quite as vibrant as your top end TV but for the money it's way ahead of similar price TVs.
Sound quality is ok, but I have surround sound anyway so it's not an issue.
The smart tv part isn't that smart, but it works. I have an apple TV and it's much smarter:)
Overall, excellent value for money. Had it over a year and not one problem.
Slow and random!
This TV is cheap so you get what you pay for. When you turn it on you need to wait about 30sec before you can change the channel. Sometimes it completely freezes so the only thing you can do is turn it off at the wall. On the plus side it's a cheap smart tv which is a great feature (when it works).
Wish I'd spent more money on a real TV!
Where shall i start. We brought this TV from Poco, it seems such a great deal.
When we got it home and tuned in the new to free channels what a disaster.
They don't register in the TV guide, so we cant record for these channels. Even channel 7 wont show.
The free gift which was a sound bar, finally arrived after 2 months of constant phone calls. Funny thing is that it was from Melbourne. The sound bar is a disaster as well. Sub woofer doesn't even work.
Spend that extra money to get a good quality TV. This one sucks!
Would i recommend this brand to other people..definitely not!
Great value but wish I'd spent a bit more for a better picture
For $900 on 50 months interest free this tv is really good value (I stress the word "value", as opposed to this being an excellent tv). It was an upgrade from a 32 inch Samsung approx 4 years old. The jump in size is enormous and makes watching tv so much easier.
Overall I am happy with this tv. However given my time again I would have spent a few hundred dollars more and got a tv with better picture quality. At times there can be slight pixelation and watching the cox plate the other day the horses and jockeys were not as clear as I would lik...
