Good Budget Priced Smart TV
Bought this TV in November 2016, has not let us down at all in that time, the picture is good, the sound ok, the smart apps are great .... but a heads up ....the TV auto connects to your wifi signal , once you have tethered to the TV , i.e. if you restart your wi fi hotspot the TV is connected to your network , the only way I could stop this happening was to change the password on my iPhone .
So even if you turn the wifi option off it appears to reconnect when you use your personal hotspot on your iPhone or whatever device the (following day ...
The pictures quality is really good, even watching for a long time, we don't feel any uncomfortable or tiered of eyes. The speaker is good. The ports are on the side of tv, we haven't use that much functions, but I think they're enough for normal use. This TV is really cutting the edge. It can connect to Wifi, those connecting to Laptop days never back, hooray! It's use friendly.
Positives = the picture is good for the price. Negatives = 1 the apps are crap. 2 This is advertised as a Netflix tv which it has but it is sooooo slow. 3 It takes a long time to connect to the network. I have to turn in the tv go do something then come back to use. 4 it is really big and heavy for a modern tv. 5 it is advertised as a smart tv, which it is not. I got it for my spare room so it isn't used much I would have taken a hammer to it if it was my main tv.
TCL 48E4900FS Not So Smart Either
Well as far as picture quality is concerned ...Yes Its great but being a Smart Tv.....Ummmm Somehow I dont thinkso.....This facebook app thats on my TCL Tv ....The only thing I can access is my photo & video albums which is the pits.......I cannot access the newsfeed nor my inbox messages nor can I even access my very own facebook page.
I did get onto google via the Opera Browser App but the using the buttons on the remote control it takes far to long to even register that Im actually typing anything to do a google search. Basically pittafu...
This TCL Smart Tv I bought from an Electrical Store in Cranbourne North. I have a 48E4900FS Model. I have found that its nothing but trash. Most of these so called Apps that are on this Tv do not work. I cannot access my Opera Browser Account. Says I do not have internet connection when I am already connected to our Wifi. The facebook app does not work. All I can access is my Facebook Photo Albums & Videos...Pfft pointless with that. The Picassa App which goes along with your Google account. Does not work properly either. I click on "Allow Acce...ss" does nothing. Yeah I will admit it has a heap of movies as such in amongst the apps and all. But most of them are all mostly B grade movies. Nothing any good to watch. The only decent apps there is on this Tv is Netflix and Youtube. What a god damn joke buying this heap of trash Tv. Oh there's another thing. You can't even do a software update on this thing either. So today I went out to buy a 16GB USB to Insert into the USB port of the Tv hoping this would sort out alot of the problems I'm having..But No...Disappointed once again. I have the USB Inserted in the Tv. I go to Software Update. Then it comes up on the screen "No Software Update Available" Yep This supposedly Smart Tv is nothing but Trash. Waste of money. Wish I never bought the thing. I called where I bought it from. They explained to me I had to call TCL Direct. With no help from them either. I have sent TCL emails and yet still no assistance from them. Not very happy about this at all!!! I have added a few photos of what happens when I try to access my Opera Browser Account & also what happens when I access the facebook app. I only get as far as my facebook albums and cannot go any further. I use the right cursor button on the remote control but does nothing what so ever.
Make sure it does what you want!
According to the website this is " a great looking smart TV packed with great features and energy efficiency. It is an affordable series of television, with great connected functionality". If you want to watch ABC Iview or SBS catch up, forget it! When I contacted TCL after trying to connect to ABC Iview I was told to "purchase a Google chromecast for around $50 that will enable you to stream content direct to your TV". I ask you, why buy a smart TV if it's not smart? Maybe the ACCC will take up the meaning of great connected functionality for me.
As for a TV, looks good and performs fine, can't fault it as a LED TV, it's JUST NOT SMART!
