My TEFAL Oleoclean Pro FR804040 Deep Fryer -
TEFAL Oleoclean Pro FR804040 Deep Fryer - over 6 months old. Was working fine but now It will not heat up the oil. I have tried resetting it but it still does not work.
Purchased in October 2020.
Good Fryer, very bad design.
I bought one of these last week, the fryer is perfect a nice wide basket great for lots of small things like chips, chicken bites, samosas and spring rolls even chicken pieces that aren’t that thick.
The idea behind the design is what drew me to this filter the oil and stores is in a separate container automatically and having a large basket.
This is where the design faults come in, the oil box is shockingly weak the lid pops off when trying to pour the filters oil back in to the fryer you need 3 hands to follow the instructions and counter ...the issue of the lid popping off “ one hand to hold the black tab down, one hand to hold the lid on at the bottom by the drain plug and a 3rd hand to hold the other side to stop the lid from separating and spilling 3.5l of oil all over your kitchen”. To counter this I have used tape but Tefal could of incorporated some clips to hold the lid on like those on the “really useful boxes” Second design fail is the handle it does not flick down and is not easily removed you have to push it in to the basket and it’s hard to put back in to place maybe a squeeze and lock system would of worked better than the push squeeze and get oil everywhere system. So although it has its faults I still like the fryer and having made a few adjustments to how I use it I would still recommend on the bases that it’s easy to clean, filters the oil and has a large basket. But to note if you are frying chicken quarters you will need to add a few of them or go old school and use a pan on the stove top :). Review from the UK. My price is in GBP £105.69

Beware - you may end up with oil everywhere
Let me start by saying I love this fryer. It's tall but still takes up about the same footprint as any other deep fryer, it's so much easier to clean than any other deep fryer I have ever owned, and I've owned others that were supposed to be easy to clean. The buttons are well designed the timer could be better if it was back lit but no biggie - everything you want in a fryer. Honestly, it's a 5 star appliance, except for one really bad issue - the oil storage box.
The instructions are Terrible and dangerous.
The oil storage box is actually...a square tub with a lid. When you are pouring the oil from the storage container, back into the unit through the little pouring hole, you will need to keep a very firm grip on either side of the container to hold the lid in place while you pour. The lid doesn't clip in place, it doesn't hold in place like a tupperware container lid might, it just sits loosely on the top. I guess this is so when the oil gets very old and you want to tip it out, you can also clean out the storage container too?? I don't know. I cannot understand why they would design it like this. What I really can't understand, is if they had to design it like this, why didn't they make the instructions much clearer, that this is a 2 piece container with a lid and when you are pouring the oil back into the container, it is vital that you hold the lid in place, or you will end up with 3 litres of oil all over the bench, the floor and yourself. You will probably only make this mistake the once, but it would have been so much easier, to have been given a heads up in the instruction manual that this is going to happen everytime you refill the fryer. They put in an extra instruction to say that the lid cannot go in the dishwasher, despite the instructions in the manual - they don't explain why it can't go in the dishwasher, so I'm almost tempted to do it anyway :) but a wipe with a soapy sponge before/after you use it is all you'll really need to do.

Best Fryer On The MARKET!
Cooks evenly everytime! the oil stays fresh and clean with its filtering system. Everything just works! easy to clean and store away. makes frying a breeze and a household essential!

congratulations Tefal you’ve done it again! Another quality appliance
The Tefal oleoclean fryer cooks really nice crunchy chips, and has a good size basket.
This appliance is lightweight, and easy to store away once you have drained the oil, takes up minimal room I love the idea of the container that the oil drains into as it really filters the oil well for continuous use,
Only negative is you have to be
careful when pouring the oil
back into the fryer when you want to use it again ,because the lid tends to pop off if you have not pressed it down (tight enough )and it can get really messy.

After a few years can be dangerous
I bought this on 24th July 2018. On 17th Feb 2020 I noticed that a large percentage of the fine mesh filter wire in the lid was missing. I shook the lid and found that numerous bits of the mesh wire became dislodged. I was aware that wire bristles from a BBQ brush have caused serious illness after being accidentally consumed, hence I believe that the wire particles falling into the oil also has the potential to be consumed. If you have one of these, please check that the fine mesh filter is still intact and if not, don't use it. I have reported the matter to the ACCC and Tefal, neither have responded.

Good fryer - if you like large fry ups
- Frys everything we've tried, very well and quickly
- Heats up fairly quickly with the lid on
- Easy to clean
- Oil draining and reuse is handy and straightforward
- Controls are clear and it's easy to use
- Tall. On a regular kitchen bench, shorter people, elderly or infirm may not be able to use easily
- Requires a LOT of oil. More than 2 liters to fill it to max. Anywhere below max may be too shallow...

Does what is says - but a tad large
The fryer works very well to cook everything we have tried including battered fish; crumbed fish; chips; potato gems; schnitzels; battered chicken; papadums and deep fried ice cream.
The best thing about the product is the oil cleaning feature. Basically the oil is drained through a fine filter into a storage container. Then you clean the left overs out of the cooking area. That means the oil stays really fresh; doesn't get smelly or smokey.
The downside is that it is a really big piece of kit - takes up a lot of bench/cupboard space.

Wish i didn't have this
I agree with SuzP i cannot get my chips nice and crisp and crunchy no matter what type of oil i purchase. I have a air fryer which cooks better than this. My husband bought it for me!!!!! say no more

Fit for purpose
Works well, wish it got hotter and had a better heat up time once food went in. Oil cleaning is OK, only paid an additional $10 for the feature vs the similar breville without. Wouldn't justify much more than that. Also a big unit comparatively, may not be worth the extra storage space for some.

Sorry I wasted my money!!
I have been cooking oven baked chips for years & after purchasing a Tefal Deep Fryer I will continue to do so! Why did I waste my money? ? Not only on the fryer but on 3 different types of oil, every variety of potato including frozen chips. Not once did we we get a lovely crisp chip with a fluffy centre. Last night I again cooked my chips in the oven with just a light spray of oil & they were delish! Anyone out there want a deep fryer as I'm giving it away!

Disappointed, has 2 significant flaws
My first issue relates to the Oil straining ability, when compared to a "regular" style deep fryer, to empty the oil and clean the unit, it is in fact more time consuming than my previous deep fryer. The reason is, yes it will drain and strain the oil, but your are then left with still having to clean the bowl but now I have to also spend more time cleaning around the strainer valve and screen to remove the grunge. I have drained twice now, and I can grunge under the screen above the valve yet I can't get at it without dismantling this componen...t which the manual does not mention so I assume this is NOT a step the manufacturer allows. In short, it is just as quick (and easier) to simply empty the dirty oil into a container, clean a unit without the strainer function, then empty the oil back into the fryer using muslin or a fine strainer. The second issue is it is shallower then my previous conventional deep fryer, for small items it is fine, but for something like chicken wings or large fish fillets etc, I have found it is much shallower than my previous deep fryer making it more time consuming, as you must turn larger items to ensure they cook evenly. I was surprised when I first filled it to the MAX line and noticed how little oil there was sitting above the bottom of the basket. I now add oil above the MAX line which means I now also must watch the fryer when cooking large food items to ensure there is no accidental overflow. This also means when I drain it, I have to ladel out some oil so that the oil tray at bottom does not overflow. All up I think the design was done by a marketing team and not by people that actually understand effective cooking techniques. I have owned it for just over 2 months and I am already considering replacing it. I suggest on future models TEFAL should make it deeper and also allow easy removal of the wire strainer to allow cleaning out any grunge that accumulates underneath.
Needs a Red and Green light
I love deep fryers and this one is by far the most user friendly. Simple on/off button and temperature gauge. I don't like the new ones with pictures of chicken, fish, chips, etc. I like numbers. The only problem is the light goes off when the fryer is ready which is fine except you can't know that it's still one and many of us has made the mistake of forgetting to turn it off. That's probably why some of the other users have blown theirs up. My son made a great suggestion. Have a green light on when it's ready and the red when it's heating. That way we know the machine is on.
Bought this unit from Harvey Norman on the 23/8/2014, used it infrequently, let's say 20 times, since then to Deep fry chips or squid. Went to use it on Saturday, no luck. Did what it said and pressed the reset button, Nothing. Gotta buy something else or go back to frying in the pan.
worked for while then blew up
While it worked it was excellent. I only used it once every few weeks, after having it for 18 months it has blown up. of course just after the warranty has finished. I would have thought should last longer than this. Fairly hopeless, only thing to do now is buy a new one, quite annoying.

And thoughts ?
- Holds 3.5L of oil at the maximum fill line, and a capacity of up to 1.2kg of food, namely French fries
- Automatic oil filtration means oil is filtered to make it clean and fresh again - allowing it to be reused for the next cooking session. This means you save oil and time filling up the container again.
- The oil box makes it easy to preserve the freshness of the oil between cooking sessions. If you know you won’t be using the deep fryer for a while, store the oil in a different container and clean the fryer.
- The heating element reaches the high heat needed to crisp food quickly
- All the separate parts of this deep fryer can be removed for easier and more thorough cleaning. The following parts are dishwasher safe - the removable bowl, lid, frying basket and oilbox .
- The lid is equipped with a viewing window, which allows you to keep an eye on your food as it fries
- The temperature for deep frying can be adjusted from 150 degrees - 190 degrees Celsius
- A digital timer and auto shut-off feature both prevent food from overcooking
- Constructed from a stainless steel bowl coating, a brushed stainless steel appliance housing, a metal control panel,
Points of praise
- The Oleoclean heats up quickly and cooks a wide variety of foods quickly and evenly.
- Reviewers generally enjoyed the taste of foods cooked in this deep fryer.
- The generously size of the appliance allows you to cook a large quantity of foods in one go.
- Oil stays fresh and clean thanks to the filtration system.
- Some reviewers found the large size of the Oleoclean too bulky, taking up too much room on their benchtop.
- The lid only loosely fits onto the appliance, so that when you’re pouring oil from one container into the other, the lid may fall off - causing you to potentially spill oil. This can make a mess in your kitchen, and can also be dangerous if the oil is hot.
