The best i have ever used!
The Tefal ingenio preference stainless steel induction set has to be the most versatile pot and pan set on the market. Why you ask, well not only is it a pot and pan set, its a container set and the frying pans can also be placed into the oven, with the handles off! the pots have measuring points on the side. The lids used for cooking and very ergonomic and have amazing grab handles that never get hot and also have a rubber seal to sit around the rim of the pot to prevent overspills. This pot and pan set is an induction typeset but works on all...cook types including gas, coil, electric and ceramic as well as being able to be put into the oven! Heat transfer is even, there is no heat in the middle and not to the sides, just perfect, even cooking. I was intrigued to see how good the non-stick quality was with the frying pans and they are amazing. I cooked an omelet without using oil and had no sticking, pancakes like it was nothing, steaks, chops and more, all without oil. I mean I was amazed by the quality. Each detachable handle is tested to withstand 10KG and there is also a 10-year guarantee on them. I never felt that I could not trust them to hold a put full of water or a pan full of scrambled eggs, the truth is that they are very solid and well made. I do however dislike the angle that the handles sit at but this is minor and I also believe that they would not work if they were at a normal flat level. Also, and I never thought of this until I went to put them in the Dishwasher, however, the removable handles, make a difference when loading as there are no handles in the way. Negatives, you may ask. Well, the kit comes with 2 pans and 3 pots but only 2 handles, however, you only have 2 hands so I guess it's nothing to be annoyed about and the handles are easy to detach and attach so this really isn't an issue. Also, they are quite a small size set however it states the size on the side of the box. I'm not too sure if they make a larger kit, it's probably something I would invest in for my family as a 30cm frying pan is normally the smallest we would use in our household and the largest in this kit is only 26cm. These are more formalities then negatives. I mean this is, and always will be, my first choice when I am cooking!
Excellent system. Solid build
This system I have is comprised of ;
- two Teflon frying pans 22 & 26cm
- two detachable handles
- three saucepans 16, 18 & 20cm (stainless steel)
- three matching size white silicon storage lids
- three matching size glass/silicon lids
The pans are very well made, frying pans have thick bases and everything is of very good quality. Good sizes.
Attaching and detaching the handle is very easy and overall feel solid, a little horizontal (sideways) wobble/movement can be felt, but it’s never been an issue. ...The system is ideal for those with limited space as the pots and pans can stack so well together. I mean really well! Stove to Oven cooking is perfect with these frying pans. I made everything from Chicken Breast & Bacon oven bake to Chicken Soup in the saucepans - using a silicon lid for storage when cooled. Boiled Rice, Sataras, Scrambled eggs, Steaks , Curries etc everything works well in the pans. No issues with cooking or cleaning. PROS - Saucepans and Frypans are heavy and well built. They feel robust and spread heat evenly. - System stacks very well, making a small footprint for the amount of pans available (detachable handle also helps in this regard) - Stove to Oven is very easy with the detachable handles, reversing the process is just as easy. Handles have a solid feel & sound when attaching. (handles are not oven safe, they must be removed.) - ThermoSpot (red centre part of the frypans) are great for ensuring the pan is not overheated. - Stainless steel pots have measurement markers inside - Teflon coating is even and works beautifully. It looks like an excellent coating. CONS - Glass lids can’t be used with the Teflon frypans - Instruction book is tiny, limited information, hard to read (small print). An included booklet with larger images and uses, even a few recipes would have been welcomed. - I assume you can’t nest the stainless steel pots inside the Telflon frypans (the box shows you can) . But will they scratch? Again a better instruction book would be useful. I use a white silicon lid as a barrier. - I keep the handles close to the stovetop, but I can see issues with mislaying them.
Good set of cookware with a bonus!
The Ingenio Preference 13 piece set is a solid set of pots and 2 fry pans. The whole concept of removeable handles, lids for cooking and more lids for storage is a great idea and works pretty well.
The 2 fry pans are really fantastic non-stick cooking surfaces. The surface browns food nicely and I can’t fault the non-stick surface so far. The removable handles are really solid when connected which is reassuring. We found the removeable handle great for the frypan when we made some taco's with the finished mince brought to the table and h...andle off for serving. The frypan base is quite solid and heats up fast and evenly. I used the small fry pan to cook crepes and it was perfect - I used some butter but it was more for flavour than a cooking lubricant as without oil or fat and it still doesn’t stick. The pots are practical sizes and cook well. Again, solid evenly heating bases. The inside surfaces are clean lines and easy to clean. Initially the lid handle was a bit odd, being folding but after a while getting used to it, it works just fine. The only minor issue with the lids is that because of the removeable handles clamping mechanism, the pot lids had a notch out of them, which aligns with a handle. So you cant just put a lid on, without lining the notch up - minor after a while too. The storage lids fit quite nicely and is a nice idea, but we don’t really use them much as we generally tend not to store food in pots. More so we store in rectangular containers which take up less space and stack better, than a round pot. But the removeable handle does work well when putting the pot in the fridge, as the handle isn’t there to get in the way. Initially, I thought the two supplied handles would not be enough and I wanted 3, but somehow 2, works fine as we rarely use more than 2 pots at the same time. If we do, the release and clamp mechanism works very well - they snap on and off quite nicely. A number times I just took the handle off cooking anyway.
Cooking with gas
This cookware set is especially for induction hobs, but I am happy to report that it works well on gas cooktops too.
Initially, I thought that the stainless steel bases would not distribute heat all that well, especially on a gas cooktop rather than induction, but I was mistaken. I tested these pans with a small quantity of water covering the entire base of the pan and this started boiling evenly at the same time. This compares favourably (and slightly better in some cases) to my expensive copper base cookwear - copper being one of the best...heat-conducting metals, and FAR better than my cast iron pans. This set has some pros and cons: Pros Measurement markings on inside of pots are handy for quickly eyeballing quantities No drip lip for pouring - a nice design feature, not described in any of the listed features on the box Plastic lids for storage - very handy
This will cook your goose!
I've been using the Tefal saucepan set now for just over a fortnight. Cooking is one of my passions in a very well equipped industrial-scale kitchen in a farmhouse in the middle of nowhere.
Disclosure I was sent a set to evaluate through the Product Review Ambassador Program. In order to give the set a 'fair go' I've used them exclusively for a couple of weeks. I'm also generally reluctant to give five stars unless the product, on balance, is exceptional. Here's the verdict.
The Tefal set is fantastic.
The 13 piece set has three stainless ...cooking pots that are chunky solid heavy and distribute the (gas) heat incredibly, evenly well. A pan of acidulated water for poaching the household eggs develops beads and bubbles evenly across the bottom of the pot. Sauteeing red onions for a sauce base on the stainless is a breeze. The two frying / saute pans that have the Tefal thermodot are ridiculously non-stick. Tefal might even wean me off my Scanpan addiction with their version of the non stick coating. Searing brined pork medallions, letting them rest and making a miso/tomato sauce was a bit of a dream. Deglazing was simple and very fast. Cleanup drama was pretty much non-existent. A plus in a house with gravity-feed tank water and no dishwasher.
Questions & Answers
As the pots are non-stick are they hard to clean? Understand that sometimes you may need to soak before cleaning. Have used the Tefal Ingenio Performance non-stick induction pots in the past, unfortunately we accidentally scrapped the pots (even though we used the proper tools) and so everything then stuck to the pots when used. Pans were great. Now looking at the Tefal Ingenio Stainless Steel. Appreciate any feedback. Thank you.
Will this set be just as good if used with a gas stove top? Thanks
Although I used my on induction as my review stated, in sure gas will be just as good. The only thing to be aware, and many people don't realise, you don't usually need extreme high heat to be able to cook great. Now it depends on the power of your cook top, some gas are very good, and some verge on commercial style strengths. Stoves like Wolf (which I cooked on for years at my parents home) are very powerful and you had to be much more conservative with high heat. The only thing I would be more cautious about, as I was not able to see was the handles. As they seem very durable, they will more than likely get hot from being over a larger gas burner. So see how they go in that respct, otherwise I'm sure they will do just as well if not somewhat better as you have more precise control than with induction. Since induction doesn't produce actual heat outside of the area the pot or pan is on, versus electric or gas, just make sure you use a pot holder if touching the handle as it may become hotter is all. They are a great set of pans that perform extremely well and take up very little cabinet space. Good luck.
