$589 - replaced by retailer twice due faulty auto-open latch/lid mechanisms. Dangerous! Poor value :(
Do not buy!!! Dangerous!
Our simple old $30 Sunbeam rice cooker was still going strong and faultless after 20yrs of constant use but was looking a bit outdated so I lashed out and purchased this stunning but expensive top end Japanese Tiger Rice cooker (JKTS18A/AUD$589) for my wife for Christmas 2017 from the Bing Lee online store.
Our new Tiger was a stunning unit, always cared for meticulously, used about once or twice a week and sat pride of place on our new black granite benchtop. The unit has an 'auto-open' latch that opens the l...id after the rice has completed cooking. BUT after only 10months use (Oct 2018) the auto-lid open latch/lid mechanism started to fail and would just randomly and frequently open during mid cooking - bursting a cloud of boiling hot steam across the kitchen and user. Dangerous!!! (Note: The unit can not cook correctly with this fault) Bing Lee very kindly accepted the return and offered a replacement or refund - we took the replacement option of the same model. BUT again after only another 10 months (August 2019) - the same problem started occurring - AGAIN! Again Bing Lee kindly offered a full - but this time conditional refund and not to buy from them again. Bing Lee contacted Tiger Australia themselves of the issue but were told by Tiger that we had 'damaged' the rice cooker! Damaged? Total rubbish! I can categorically state the cooker was NOT ever 'damaged' - it was always fastidiously cared for and it was obviously a fatigue or fault problem in the auto-open latch/lid mechanism that Tiger won't admit to. This was a very expensive ~AUD$600 Tiger Rice Cooker - we would expect a lot more from it and Tiger Australia - they should just accept responsibility that there is clearly a repetitive fault with their product. Do not buy - not worth the hassles and danger. Note: Our model number is JKT-S18A but is the same model as the pictured JKT-S18U.
