We were quoted a good price for an 8m long carport for our van & the quote was only good for a short time. So we went ahead and paid the deposit, but soon after found out that the council would reject our location of the carport Within 6m of our front boundary. We immediately advised Totalspan & provided the council document that detailed this. Unfortunately we were refused a refund as per the contract, that we believe we rushed into due to the quote deadline. We are retired & can’t afford this loss & would expect some understanding from Totalspan about our situation. Not a happy ending.
I dealt with 2 branches in Queensland. It all started when one of the franchise owners miss sited the intended shed, building permit was duly issued but completely wrong. The franchise owner used a 6m tape and got his maths wrong when siting our 9 meter width, which was going to be 1.5m to closer to our boundary. In disbelief they had to visit satisfy themselves of the error and reluctantly we had to re site the shed had I not discovered this the shed would have been in the wrong place and outside council guidelines another permit had to be lod...ged. Once building started there were obvious design issues that someone had not fully considered and between themselves and the erector finally got their story straight. In the end we got the shed finally completed but it was hard work. I don't necessarily think that Totalspan is a bad product but the sheds are generally a bit cheaper than say other popular brands, and for a good reason make sure you check quality of fittings and finish. The franchise we dealt with was very hard to work with and we had to drag them kicking and screaming to get things fixed. The head office are not easy to contact if things go off the rails, Overall I was not happy with the quality of the erection even a motor opener for the main door was so badly out alignment the building inspector would not write it off until this was rectified. The erector said before this, well at least it works, You see somewhere the single door was supplied that could not fit a motor, design fault blamed on the door being over width, if that was the case why did the erector accept it. Our build was a garaport with a double roller door and a single on the carport, amazingly the height of the double roller door is 15cm higher than the single??! The clowns who designed this overlooked the difference in heights, all they had done is tack a carport onto a double garage and no thought given to this aspect. I could have had it rectified if I was prepared to pay the erector $700. In short if you consider Totalspan proceed with caution. I will supply the actual franchise location on private request, please message me.
Good from afar but far from good
A good cheap affordable shed, Good customer service in the initial stages for the sale, the guys who erected the shed did a great job very fast, and in the rain, and cleaned up after themselves. The shed is as described although, the shed is not sealed and leaves dust and occasional water come in from the centre capping which is a manufacturers fault apparently according to sales team response. Wouldn't recommend unless your not worried about occasional water damage or always being covered in dust and leaves to what is inside your enclosed shed.
Roof is not sealed, sales team not interested and pass the buck.
