Needs to be driven frequently to charge the hybrid battery
Have had my hybrid for 1 month. Was initially looking at the Lexus UX hybrid. But the Corolla was a sportier drive and had a nicer interior - plus was half the price. The Corolla is great to drive, has good visibility and has more technology than I can use. It is amazing driving in electric mode - so silent.
The only negative is that the hybrid battery is going flat because the car is not driven every day. When I enquired about this, I was told to take the car on a long drive.
The Toyota Australia website states the "high-voltage Hybrid 'tr...action battery' will never run out of charge, as it charges while you drive". However there is an article on the Toyota UK website dated 03 April 2020 which recommends, if not driven regularly, to idle the car for 60 mins at least once a week. During this 60 minutes the petrol engine kicks in to charge the hybrid battery. In all of my research before purchasing, I could not find any information about the charging of the hybrid battery. Idling in the garage, with the petrol enging on, for 1 hr a week defeats the purpose of why I wanted a hybrid vehicle.
Purchased in March 2020.
Great efficient vehicle
Great little car that’s cheap to service, came out of a Lexus and was surprised at home many more features this car provided!
Great value for money for anyone looking for a small hatchback
Purchased in September 2018 at Melbourne City Toyota Heidelberg for A$34,000.00.
Oh what a feeling!
Just picked up my 2014 Corolla RZ. Love it! Coming from a 2012 Nissan Dualis, I definitely prefer the Corolla. The interior is solid, the plastic doesn't feel cheap and the seats are really tough. I have a German Shepherd and he seems really comfortable in the back and the seats seem to be a lot more resistant to his nails compared to the Nissan which was cheap cloth and plastics. I never thought much of a Corolla, always thought of it as a rental car but never drove one before. I swear it is so much fun to drive, really zippy, fuel efficient and hugs the road really well.
Would definitely buy another one in a heartbeat.
