Great adventure car. Love it

Bought the Prado GXL 2022 and so far it has been perfect. Comfortable ride, great fuel economy and looks amazing. Recently drove from Sydney to Queensland only using half a tank. Managed to fit all the luggage in the boot with 4 passengers and with some room left. The drive up was comfortable and it drove like a dream. The manoeuvrability was surprising good. Managed to squeeze into tight parking spots with nil issues. The interior feels a little outdated but that’s not a big issue. The paintwork and the exterior of the car is made to a high quality. To bad someone already reversed into my car while parked! Over all I’m extremely happy with the car. Will eventually take it off road which is the main reason I got the car. Show details

Nice family car. Not a great one (2020 January model)

I bought this as my dream car but I felt some issues like jerking when shift from parking gear to reverse and it is noisy as well . Recently I noticed that there is some kind of sound coming while breaking. Torque converter gear box is not that great. It is always jumping around 5th and 4th gear not locking on 6th even on highways and it’s playing big roll on fuel efficiency . I don’t think it’s value for money. I use this car for almost every day for work and weekend outback trips, beach drive etc. I used to service the car on 8000K. I have done 30000k on this car. Good things are It’s a comfy spacious car for family. Show details

Love My Prado

We bought the Prado to tow our campertrailer, I was driving a Honda CRV, however the CRV did not have the power we needed to tow. We wanted a car to have the room to take our 3 Labradors away camping too. I use the Prado for work, I am a Community Care Aide, most of my clients are able to access the car comfortably. The Prado is big and comfortable inside, my Mechanic services the Prado twice a year. No major problems. Show details

Bad vibration at 1500rpm. Toyota says it's normal

I bought a new 2020 GXL Prado in December 2020. From the first day I picked it up I noticed a vibration/shudder at about 1500-1700rpm. Took it back to the dealer who got Toyota technical people out to look at it. They agreed the car had a vibration/shudder, and I asked for the vehicle to be replaced.
Toyota Australia have said that ALL Prados do it and they consider it is not a fault.
Toyota customer service is terrible. I have owned Toyota vehicles for 40 years and never had a problem, but now that a vehicle has an issue, they run away.
Don't buy a toyota vehicle unless you drive it first.
Toyota do not stand behind their products.

It's like a lemon

Bought second hand prado from maddington Toyota Perth. Done only 97k. I thought would be good car. But turns out it's like a lemon. Rear door is loose, even been to Toyota dealership 3 times. Its just rattle they couldn't fix it. Not really happy with Toyota response in it. Show details

Good car but poorly optioned compared with market

Car is largely simple for the sake of reliability BUT GXL, for a $66K car, to not have front parking sensors or apple car play/android auto, surround view cameras, leather trim, etc is actually marketed pretty arrogantly, as you need to buy the top spec model at 90K to get stuff a 20K Korean car has... it's clearly priced with a "they'll buy it anyway" attitude. Also... it's super-gutless, even for a 4wd, ranger, discovery, amarok, navigate, all go better, which is a bit annoying too Show details

Love this car

In August 2018, I upgraded our 4x4 to a brand new Toyota Prado GXL. BEST decision I ever made. The car is a dream to drive and definitely looks the part too. I keep hearing all this hype about DPF issues, but I cant say that I have experienced any issues so far. The car has just clicked over 16000km and I have owned it for about 2 weeks short of a year. Only thing I don't like about it is the service intervals. Every 6 months - c'mon Toyota. Other than that I love it!! Show details

Does anyone have a surging issue around 1400-1600 Rpm light throttle / cruise ? we have this issue that Toyota has nothing about but mentions other owners have it as well ? also putting the vehicle into gear it jumps forward and requires brakes to hold it .
This is a Nov 2020 Prado GXL Auto Diesel only has 5K on it

Just great isn’t it, if Toyota doesn’t bring out a fix by mid year I’ll be going down the refund road again

When having my Prado serviced the service guy told me we needed complete new brakes on the LHS as they had been heat and water affected. I was told this is quite common? He said we must have gone through water after using the brakes a lot and the heat had damaged the bakes and brake pads. I was shown a picture and he said the brake pads had slight cracks and the brakes had gone 'blue' indicating high heat and water exposure. I could see the very slight cracks on the edge of the brake pads but could not see a difference in the brakes on each side. The vehicle is 2 years old, done 20000km and never been off road. They have now offered to machine the brakes at their cost. Is this a 'thing'?

Purchased this vehicle for caravaning. Went from Coff's Harbour to Glenn Inness and got about 15litres/per 100 kilometres. Which we thought was great. We inadvertently left the caravan plugged in and it completely drained the battery. Since then the economy has been horrible, about 28l/100kls at reduced speed ie 80 kph.

Did the flat battery effect on board computers to drastically reduce fuel economy or is there another issue?

Guy
