Useless is the best I can say

Supplied by ISP ( but as a invoiced adder ). Live in a small house, NBN point and TP-Link in middle of house. Wi-fi coverage as flaky as it gets and the frequent need to reset has left me with a Bluetooth controlled power outlet as my lazy man solution. Show details

Archer Modem

Bad device....requires power on re-boots numerous times a day I would not recommend it to anyone!! Avoid it at all cost!! Telstra provide much more reliable modems than TPG. Thanking you Show details

Have to power cycle device to reconnect all the time

After dealing with these intermittent disruptions for well over 12 months I reached out to internode to see if there were some firmware etc that may be able to have the device reauthenticate after a disconnection, though suggested No this is common practice. I'm like, ADSl and other modems I have used have never been like this and I don't see why I should have to physically turn the device off and back on numerous times a week or sometimes daily to use the internet.
I was advised unfortunately that's the way it is with NBN, which I found totally unacceptable. I cant even remote in when away from the house or travelling with any reliance as good chance I have to ring my son to drive over and reset the device again to do so. What a joke.  Show details

A piece of crap

Looses internet, both 5 and 5G wireless drop to less than 50 % through 2-3 walls , my old net gear wireless with its limited 54 mbps performs better through the entire house and outside into the back and front yards. This was supplied by TPG and was easy to set up. However that was the only positive . Even the network ports are lacking …..70-80 mbps on a good day. Drops outs are frequent, lack of connectivity are regular. Show details

This router is terrible. It's very slow and un-reliable

The router barely works. I have 5 device connected to it and I have to turn the wifi off for 4 of them if I want to use 1 device. The setup was not that hard. The website is somewhat decent. Show details

Terrible

The first one I got from iiNet didn't provide a stable connection. So couldn't play games or have WhatsApp calls.
They replaced it and the new one needs reboot once a day at least to work again. Show details

Cheap Junk - Can not configure it or put into bridge mode

This modem is absolute junk. Has configurations for bandwidth control and parental controls that when set simply dont work. Modem crashes and needs to be reset to factory. Worst of all can not be used in bridge mode to allow a much better modem to be used instead. This is the modem TPG insist you use as their customer. It's OK if you don't need to configure anything but if you do, give it a miss. Im going back to telstra because of this.. Show details

It is not the worst router in the world, it is working

poor performance, while it is still not tragedy,
the overheating is serious issue, I bought Asus, which provide much stronger signal, and it is competently cold, while archer was burning hot at the same place and time.

Utter rubbish

Provided good service when it worked, but have had four of these modems supplied by TPG fail over 12 months. After the 4th fail today I'm sick of the messing around and inconvenience so now looking for a different modem. Show details

Absolute rip off

This modem does not work at all , The technical support from TPG is from people you can’t understand with their dialect , TPG say it works on their end and no internet whatsoever , the modem connects to devices but no internet , both are absolute rubbish , try another provider that speaks English because one can not understand the dialect from technical support , signed up for NBN and got nothing , no service and probably still have to pay TPG for nothing for twelve months contract , avoid this modem and TPG  Show details

This modem is cheap and doesn't work very well

I have a number of people at one workplace using these modems. There is an L2TP/IPSec VPN in the office and no-one using this modem can connect properly.
Other staff using different modems have no problems connecting to the VPN, and then connecting to the server.
Everyone who is using one of these modems can connect to the VPN, but then can not access any services on the office network. Show details

Hi, sorry for the inconvenience and to hear your experience with this device hasn't been sufficient. Sounds like you may have a faulty device, best in this instance to speak with your service provider to get a replacement model shipped out to you.

Good Modem from Internode

Still working well on my setup. I bought it as part of a Internode bundle, and it is still working well. Have not replaced it ever. Had some minor hiccups during the middle of 2020, and the WiFi range is a bit small, but inside that range, WiFi speeds are excellent, and consistently close to the rated speed on the NBN plan. Have not tested the VoIP functionality on this router.
From reading some reviews I think that Internode supplies a better router than iiNet/TPG.
Update: One star down for overheating too much, forcing WiFi connections down. This happens a lot. Maybe TP-Link should be examining how to prevent this. Show details ·  1

Ethernet ok, Wifi is rubbish, hard to believe that such a poor product is in the market

My VR1600v came with IINET contract. Suffered poor internet intermittendly and hardly any Wifi signal. Used to use extenders with my previous router, they wont pick up this new router from the same spots. Finally installed my old WiFi router as extra router linked by cable, problem fixed. Looking at the same complaint by previous reviewers I'd say: Do Not Bother even if given for free! Not worth the hassle.

Absolute trash

Cheap and nasty excuse for a modem/router. Save yourself the headaches - put it in bridge mode and buy a real router to run your network.... assuming you can actually make bridge mode functions as it’s meant to!

I’d give this thing zero stars for all categories but can’t go lower than 1 Show details

Multiple warranty replacements

ISP troubleshooting confirmed modem chip gave up after 6 months and required multiple power cycles per day to address no delivery of data despite confirmed high performing HFC line in. Replaced under warranty. Warranty replacement had 2.4GHz wifi cheap dead on arrival, although 5GHz chip and ethernet worked correctly. Off for another warranty replacement. Last chance before I change to an ISP that doesn't mandate a modem that requires regular warranty replacement. Show details

Very ordinary modem router

It has been provided to me by iiNet back in July 2019 when I signed up for the NBN. I didn't make a big fuss back then because the internet speeds were consistent with what has been promised. However, over time, it has come to my attention that there have been a number of dropouts including 5ghz and 2.4ghz, and I have not been able to connect my Dyson coolers and Netgear security cameras on it, despite all of them working perfectly on my old ADSL model (before NBN was available). I have read number of ratings that confirmed that its 2.4 ghz connection was flaky. I have confirmed this with my friend's router and have been able to connect them perfectly. Very average product. Show details

TPG and their CON!!

I have just finished an 18 mth contract with TPG and transferred to another provider. I ported my landline from TPG and tried to connect through the modem they originally supplied. Guess what, all menus regarding Telephony have been removed so in other words TPG have locked their modem to their VOIP only. They claim their Modems are not locked but if VOIP is unobtainable except through TPG then who is telling lies. The factory reset defaults to TPG settings so they need to revise their understanding of the meaning of the word "LOCKED". Show details

MODEM/ROUTER GAVE POOR SPEEDS UNTIL

Got this through TPG in May 2020 when we upgraded to NBN 100 since we were all working/schooling from home due to Covid-19. Had nothing but poor speeds from May until today, 31 July. Most times speeds were 10Mbps or less throughout the day and night, with apps constantly requiring reconnects, poor quality using AppleTV.

After multiple phone calls, being left on hold for 3 HOURS, being told there was no issue with the line, finally got someone who confirmed the modem was faulty. Now getting what we paid for, finally! Show details

Generally works well

This one came with nbn through iinet. For the most part it works well however a few weeks ago i had a few dropouts. I don't know if it was the modem or just the increase in traffic, but iinet have sent a new modem anyway. Show details

Modem or NBN the problem?

I can only get on the internet now and then as it is more than slow, it doesn't have any speed most of the time. Can't do online banking or check mail when I need to. NBN said they have no problem with the area and TPG said it shows as working from their end. The few times I am able to get on the internet, it works at same speed as my ADSL I had with TPG for ages. No one can help me and I am paying $69.99 per month for minimal service. They said may be able to send another modem out but it will be the same model and probably same problem. Show details

WiFi range is terrible

Speed is great, features are great, but the wifi range is really bad. Used a TP-Link RE650 range extender before downstairs with ASUS RT-AC5300 without any issues, but now the VR1600v wifi signals cannot reach it. The short wifi range really puts this router down to the level of "unaccpetable". Show details

Our first two were defective

TPG/iiNet sent us two defective VR1600v, both could not broadcast the standard WIFI nor connect the VoIP correctly, even though these settings should have been stock from TPG/iinet.

The 3rd arrived and was setup quickly with no issues since. The WiFi isn't the strongest, just decent enough for a 2-bedroom apartment. Show details

Fantastic!!

Had it installed in our lounge room (centre of the house) and consistently get 47 Mbps download and 20 Mbps upload on our 50/20 plan with TPG. Even our back corner bedroom gets good speeds even though it has to go through three walls. Not having external antennas, it sits nicely in our entertainment cabinet. Show details

Biggest hunk of crap I have ever used, WIFI signal is almost non existent 2 rooms away

I have never had a router that is so useless. It was supplied by TPG with the NBN FTTC connection. We have to use it because it has the VOIP connection for the home phone. I had a TPlink Archer D7 before with 3 external antennas which had great WIFI performance. The Archer VR1600V has internal antennas and is a total hunk of junk. I am about to smash it and go back to the old router that worked at least. TPG can stick their router up their bum. Show details
