Don't bother to lodge a claim unless your in hospital
Have been a TID client since 2009 and always trusted on good online ratings.
Now, I tried to claim some medical costs incurred when I had an allergic reaction and had to go see a doctor in New York. The treatment cost about USD 200 (AUD 284), which I claimed. The claim process is tedious and time consuming. The website did not recognise pdf documents and refused to upload them. The system also asks for documents that are not relevant and if you do not upload them you have to explain why you do not upload a document. Overall very time consumin...g. Ultimately TID agreed to pay AUD 84 (after excess which is okay). However, before they pay out the AUD 84, TID wants me to pay another USD 100 (AUD 140) to the doctors surgery for an arguably outstanding amount. This additional USD 100 were not agreed with or communicated by the surgery on the day of the treatment. I pointed this out to TID and asked to either include the additional USD in the claim or juyst pay out the AUD 84. Haven't heard back.

Never again- horrible experience
Put in a claim after my girlfriend was rushed to hospital after lacerating her hand and required emergency surgery. This meant we missed our flight home and had to stay in Bali a further 5 days until she was fit to fly. Had appalling customer service, were offered little to no assistance and will never go through this company again. Still waiting for them to get back to me re: the claim months down the track..

They passed the test.
We've had policies with these guys a few times over the years but never had to make a claim...until now. While travelling in China last month we both ended up having to seek medical treatment for a nasty chest infection at the local doctors which allowed us to continue our trip. We made sure to get a doctors report and a copy of the receipts. Upon our return we lodged a claim with TID and I'm happy to say that the money was reimbursed to our account no problems. Total time was 16 calendar days from the time we lodged the claim to the money ...showing up in our account. I was a bit concerned after reading some of the reviews here but it all turned out just fine. We will use TID again in the future. (I was not offered anything for this review nor am I associated with TID in any way other than as a customer)
55% Premium increase
Had been with TID for at least 15 years but this year a quote for worldwide policy the price was increased 55%. I am no longer with TID as there are other companies around that want my business. I am a regular traveller as I am retired. The new company I am with allows multi trips of up to 62 days whereas TID is only 38 days. Shop around as TID has lost its way

Cannot fault, EXCELLENT service when something goes wrong - which it did for me. Zero pushback, 100% professional.
I had some moderately bad ear issues for 3 months of my policy. I had to contact numerous times and make several claims. The emergency medical assistance team is super quick and productive in their responses. Their claims team is likewise very professional. There is a reason why their reviews are so high. Very appreciative of their modus operandum. Special thanks to Margaret Marko who was superb in emergency assist, and, Dylan Copeland in claims. 10/10 operators. Policy# TIDAUS19524699
We had taken out insurance with tid for our trip to sri lanka but when terrorism hit that country we made the decision not to travel there. Tid accepted our request for a cancellation of the policy even though well out of the cooling-off period and refunded our money. You can't ask for more than that! We've used them previously many times and on the one time I had a small claim there was absolutely no issue. Will continue to use them.
It's a shame how far TID have fallen
It's a shame how far TID have fallen. I've used them for since 2014 due to their glowing reviews and was always the travel insurance I've recommended to friends and family when they travel. After my last experience, I won't be making that mistake again.
We lost a few items when travelling in Vietnam, we believed they may have been left in a hotel but weren't 100% sure. We contacted the Hotel and asked if they were there and if they can be shipped to out next location (at our cost), but they informed us that they weren't there. Oh well, lucky w...e got to travel insurance... not. TID completely washed their hands of it and said since we *think* (but aren't sure) we left them, they won't cover it since it isn't classified as a loss by them. I thought not knowing where items were located is the very definition of loss, crazy! Do your self a favour and pick any other company. It's disappointing that the old TID has started to use tricky tactics and unclear advertising to get out of paying claims.
Worst ever travel insurance ... after my bag being stolen overseas 2 months later still waiting ..zero customer service
After ALL the appropriate forms were submitted including police evidence .. I was made to feel like the criminal and had to prove my honesty! Customer service is a joke no return of calls
Worst company ever
Terrible company. Flashy site and easy to set up but impossible to actually make a claim. Not even sure how they are operating by far the worst customer service of any company I’ve dealt with.
Using for the past 10 years with no issues
I have used TID for almost 10 years now and I have nothing but praise for them. We travel overseas at least 2 times a year and in this time we've had to make 2 claims. Both times it was handled professionally after the claims were lodged.
In the first case, a phone was pick pocketed on NYE on a beach in Thailand, we submitted our police report and we got a fair chunk of the phone cost back minus depreciation very quickly.
The second case was where my parents fell and injured themselves while in Hong Kong and required treatment while over th...ere. I provided the practitioner reports and they asked for a detailed rundown of what happened. There was some back and forth with this one, asking for more details and clarification but nothing I deemed as unreasonable. We got the entire cost back of the treatment after a few weeks. For those who've had positive experiences, please share with the community here! Alot of times, the ones who have negative experiences are most vocal and can often skew the reviews overall.
If i could give no star ratings i would -
the absolute worst customer service i have ever experienced. Policy seems so nice and easy to purchase, but when actually needing a claim to be put through they are the worst! Lack of communication between claims managers and customers. I had to contact my claims manger nearly every week to see if they had received additional documents / supporting evidence and not once was i emailed or contacted when they said they would. They have finally approved my claim after A MONTH of going back and forth. I would strongly recommend researching policie...s beforehand and also make sure whatever you own that you have photos of yourself with the object ?? (Advice given from my claims manager to ensure full payment comes through) I hate writing negative comments but this was needed.
Not worth a cent - go elsewhere!!
I was recently in a country where terrorism acts were carried out. Tried to leave the country early but they don’t help or pay changes due to terrorism. I would have thought this would only be the case if traveling once a warning was already in place. I was however told that if I’m injured from a terrorist attack they would happily pay my medical fees. In other words - just stay there till you’re hurt then we can help you! In a group of 11 traveling at the time I was the only one insured with TID and the only one who had an insurance company th...at excluded terrorism. I received the worst customer service during this time also. In this day and age it’s simply not worth the risk of not being covered for terrorism related incidences and they can happen anywhere!!
The reviewer stated that an incentive was offered for this review
Very helpful when there was a claim query and processed within 2 weeks from beginning to end. Very happy with the service and price of insurance. I have used TID 3 or 4 times and have only claimed once, but very happy with the outcome.
Happy with the service and the rates
I have been using TID for about 10 years (5 times about) and find it always very easy to set up my travel insurance. I have never had to claim. I think it is reasonably good value. Only slight snag I found was that in setting up I could not show I would be in more than one country on a trip. Maybe just not smart enough, but rang them and the extra country noted on the policy. J.
Always Use Them
My family and I have been using TID for the past 8 years after having it recommended by a friend. I have always had great service and any claims made (both big and small) have been paid out without too much trouble, including a 10 day hospital stay and operation for my daughter while she was travelling in Germany. Any concerns have always been dealt with quickly and easily.
Try Getting a Claim Accepted - Impossible Task! Zero Stars If Possible
Don't bother with TIG - impossible to get them to pay out. I was hospitalized due to a life-threatening medical incident May 2017 and was unable to travel. I tried to claim the cost of the fare $200 but the claim form and doctors certificate was not enough. TIG demanded detailed medical forms from GP and two specialists (cost $600) plus a letter from Qantas (impossible -they never write) and my internal appeal just rejected today Feb 2019!
I have bought travel insurance from TID on several occasions, but until now had not tested their systems by submitting a claim. Having now gone through this process I will not be using them again. The amount of information and documentation required was completely over the top, especially given that all that was at stake was $200 (the penalty for cancelling a flight due to a cycling accident, less a $200 excess). For example, I had a signed letter from the treating doctor confirming that I was not medically fit to travel, but was belatedly in...formed that I also needed to have another form filled out by my GP, which would have required me to make an appointment and incur additional expense. When I objected I was contacted by a TID representative, but she was immovable and gave the impression that she thought I was trying to submit a false claim. No reward for customer loyalty!
They will take your money and deny your claim...
They claim that damage to a phone should be a) reported within 24 hours (to whom???) or b) that I should've put something on social media like a msg saying "hey look at me everyone I broke my phone" so I can send them a screenshot!
TID, Not everyone in this day and age is an attention seeking media!
I have contacted the insurance ombudsman (now afca Australian Financial Complaints Authority) and will let you know how I go...
Don't use this organisation
I booked a holiday to see family in Canada, 6 months ahead of the travel dates and as usual got my travel insurance. Unfortunately my mother went into hospital, the doctors told me to come as quickly as possible. So I changed my flights at a cost, and also changed my insurance, after I got to Canada my mother passed away. On returning home I tried to see if the TID could assist as it was a change to my travel plans due to this horrible situation and made a claim, they have done nothing but ask for more details, I got the full report from the ho...spital (TID indicated the information provided from the Hospital is complex) and wanted the doctors report, each of these costs more money - they have not been helpful or understanding and have been looking for pre-existing conditions which could get them out of this claim. I am so disappointed with the organisation, its grab for money without providing any real insurance not to mention their lack of compassion in a very trying time. I will not be using them again, and recommend anyone else to really be careful
WORST COMPANY EVER
I have now been trying to sort my claim for 6 months. This is the worst insurance company I have ever dealt with. Stay very clear! This company is the same company as World Nomads. They have awful customer support. My claim has been passed around there office as no one whats to deal with it. I was asked to be passed on to there complaints department, and I have had nothing from them in 20 working days. I will take legal action against them shortly. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. insurance cover for a campervan
can i get insurance if i am already traveling with no return ticket to home country?
I am looking at your comprehensive travel insurance for my 18 year old son who is travelling to Bali - 15th to 25th July. Would he be covered if his travel is affected, if the volcano causes travel delay etc.? Thanks
I think that he will NOT be covered if Mt Agung erups, all Travel Insurance have that excluded so tell him to take extra cash for food and accomodation. Am pretty sure no issues with the airlines getting him home once the airlines can fly again. Suggest you shop around for price. Will he be renting a scooter Cathy?
