Makes hiring a car affordable.
I've used this insurance several times before to hire vehicles in Australia. It costs about $8 per day and covers windscreen damage etc which gives me peace of mind. The only problem is I needed $5000 excess but the only options were $4000 or $6000.
Excellent option to insure your excess
I only discovered this option of insurance recently on the internet. Easy to use and get the cover. As far as the convenience of been insured this works well. I haven't had a claim to see how that works !!George
Take Note of possible Out of Pocket costs if you do have to claim
Summary of events and observations...
Purchased Allianz's Plan A “Nil Policy excess” cover through Tripcover. (Had done so several times before, the actual process is very easy and straightforward each time)
Unfortunately, ended up colliding with a Kangaroo in rural Victoria that bounded out onto the roadway from behind some bushes directly into the path of the hire car.
Rental company provided a (IMO what I deem as a rather inflated) repair quote for a cracked bumper and two small dents along the side caused by the Roo. This was chall...enged by myself, but it felt like to me Thrifty Vic had possibly all the scripted push-backs at the ready lined up to fire back at me one by one. Final Repair charge came to 2435 AUD, Excluding all the arbitrary charges that the Rental Car firm lumped on top. (And in my mind which Thrifty Vic did not adequately detail or disclose in any of their legal documentation) I submitted the claim to Allianz and got paid out less Thrifty Vic's “Admin Fee”, “Transport (to Thrifty Vic’s nominated panel beater) fee”, and Thrifty's “Claim fee” leaving me out of pocket to the tune of 290 AUD (around twice the cost of the actual car hire by itself)
Like the idea of actually getting car rental cover without the rental company taking a cut..got covered for a lot less than what the rental company wanted. But no claims made.
Good value Australian car excess insurance
Good cover cost for car rental i Australia. No slug for older driver. Cost better than others looked at, no un-required frills, around $6 a day, whereas car hire companies 3 times this per day.
Amazing price for cover
Cannot believe how much cheaper than anywhere else I looked Tripcover was. Hopefully I don't have to make a claim but at least I can relax and enjoy my trip without worrying about a huge excess if anything does happen. Very satisfied with their service. Yvonne
CHEAPER than cover offered by car companies!
Cheaper than cover rental cars offered . The rental car people use it themselves. Never claimed so can't comment on claims, which is why I only put 4 stars. Would be good to hear from someone who has claimed....
Very easy to organise on line
Good so far. good price and easy to arrange. have organised a few times now. Have not needed to claim fortunately so cant be sure of the process if I do need to claim back an excess payment.
I'm glad I found this site
This is an excellent value policy. It was easy to set up. Second time I have used it this year. it's cheaper than paying the car rental company and covers more.
Great price - easy to use.
I've bought this insurance before but thankfully have never had to use it. Website is easy to use and prices are good value. Only complaint is that my Qantas FF number kept getting rejected so i booked without getting the discount.
Easy to book and huge savings
Policy was easy to set up and heaps cheaper than through the carhire company. Wished I known about it earlier when I hired cars previously
Much better value than car hire places offer!
It's is much better value than the car hire places offer. Easy to arrange. Questions were answered quickly from online support.
Missed out on the under 15 days promo code discount by 9 hours. You would expect the discount would reward those repeat customers who paid more. But still half the price of most rental companies cover.

Easy to take out, not so easy to claim
First and foremost, Tripcover offers insurance cover for a fraction of the price charged by rental car companies.
It's quick and easy to take out.
I backed into a low fence, and put a scratch in the bumper bar of my rental car. When returning the car, the rental car company immediately took out $4000 - because in their contract it says they can. This is in my opinion a disadvantage of Tripcover - you actually have to pay the rental car company and then deal with Tripcover in order to be reimbursed for the money you've paid.
I put in a...claim - I started doing this online initially (needed a scanner etc), and then found my documentation used up too much bandwidth for Tripcover to accept, so in the end I had to submit my claim by post. My documentation wasn't complete, but I didn't realise this for some time because it takes Tripcover 10 days from when they receive your claim before they assess it. After the 10 days, I was asked to submit a Damage Repair Quote from the rental car company, which I did. Then I had to wait another 10 days for Tripcover to re-assess the claim. I submitted my application initially on the 4th January, and received notification that my claim had been approved on the 5th February. There's another 3-5 business days waiting period for the money to be paid into my account.
