Very glad we have insurance for Marcel
Our insurance with Trupanion was not the cheapest but recommended by the breeder. Claims have been sorted out quickly via our vet generally.

Be CAREFUL
Got my dog’s medical summary to see what they will cover and they are claiming my dog got illness that doesn’t exist !!!! Ridiculous, worst insurance ever.

Not worth it.
90% back?
I don't think so.
On two separate claims on two different dogs on their most expensive cover we got around $30 back on vet bills over $300.
I'll be putting my money in the bank from now on.

Would never go anywhere else for Pet Insurance!!!
Excellent Value! Claim turnaround extremely quick 3 days. With Trupanion for a short time when our Cat was diagnosed with a deadly virus called FIP. Treatment was expensive. They covered it! Unfortunately Opie didn’t survive and we were shattered. Trupanion sent us a condolences card which was just the sweetest. They care. They genuinely care. I would never go anywhere else when and if we decide to purchase another pet. 10000% I recommend them!

Great product and service, no fuss.
After a recommendation from our vet, we took out a Trupanion policy for our Miniature Schnauzer. 6 months later, she swallowed a rock and needed surgery which cost around $4,000 including overnight observation at a separate hospital. Trupanion covered the 90% as advertised (minus our excess) without any hoops or fuss, with quick payment.
Definitely recommend. Having this coverage took the financial strain out of an already very difficult time of dealing with a life threatening issue with our dog, Willow.

Not recommended.
Not good value as they immediately try to get out of covering things. Told different things by different consultants during a very stressful time, which didn't help my impression of their professionalism or care.
Also, their customer service team is in the US so there can be a bit of a disconcerting lag. Plus it is just super odd to be told "have a nice day!" after they've called to tell you that your very ill dog won't be covered for his acute illness because once upon a time you mentioned to your vet that he occasionally does a runny poop.
I've been with them 4 or 5 months and hoped I wouldn't need them. Probably okay for a puppy, definitely would not recommend them for a rescue dog.

Would give zero star if I could
Beware of the exclusions Trupanion will apply to your policy after they agree to cover your pet. I moved from another insurer only to be advised by Trupanion two months after starting cover that they were excluding "chronic allergies" for my dog. My dog has never been treated for any allergies and this decision was based entirely on one visit to the vet to check whether there was a bug stuck in his ear when my dog was intermittently shaking his head/twitching his ear for a couple of days. Other "signs of problems" noted by Trupanion that they i...
Read morendicated "may not be covered" without further review included lethargy and not urinating/defecating as these were signs present on the day he was desexed - probably fairly standard signs in most dogs following a general anaesthetic and de-sexing procedure. Based on my experience, Trupanion will use any skerrick of information and falsely use this to deny (their very expensive) cover or future claims.- Value for Money

The best pet insurance you will find!
I cannot fault Trupanion at all, and have had my 15mth old pup insured with them from when we got her. Sadly, she injured herself within the first week, but Trupanion were amazing and the claim was paid out very quickly. I had to chase up the vet to send all the diagnostics information to TP, but once this was done, the claim was paid out within 2 weeks. Everyone I spoke to was so supportive, their empathy and concern is second to none, and you can tell the staff really care about your pet and want the best for them. They're happy to answer any, and all questions you might have, and nothing is too much trouble - you will not find a better insurance company!!! If I could give 10 stars, I would!

Excellent pet insurance
I started pet insurance for my puppy since he was about 4 months old, after seeing an ad in the vet surgery. So far I have made 2 claims due to my puppies leg bone not growing properly and he needed surgery. Trupanion claims have been incredibly easy, and their response and reimbursement have been very quick and trouble free. Highly recommend Trupanion for pet insurance.

Timely, supportive and transparent
Our dog has been insured with Trupanion since we got her as a puppy in 2020. She's usually healthy, happy and full of 'get-up-and-go'. But a digestive tract issue has caused her regular discomfort, requiring a series of vet consultations then a specialist hospital visit. Each claim submitted to Trupanion has been processed in a timely and efficient manner. Our most recent claim, for specialist treatment, was settled and paid within 3 days - unprecedented in our experience with previous pet insurers. On each occasion Trupanion's customer service has been excellent - with regular updates and clarity of the messaging - whilst the online claims process is first-class. In every respect Trupanion has been an excellent choice.

Seamless online claims process, easy-to-understand policy
After having our policy for a little over a year, our first claim for hospital care and diagnostic testing was paid out in less than a week - and this was over the busy Christmas period!
All the invoices were lodged online and we found the communication via email to be friendly and timely.
The 90% coverage is easy to understand and for us the only exclusions were the examination fees. We have kept our policy cost lower by choosing a higher excess, this gave us peace of mind that we could get the very best care for our dear little Hugo when he unexpectedly became very unwell.
We highly recommend Trupanion.

Such a pleasant surprise! Thank you Trupanion!
We are so happy that we chose Trupanion to insure our new pup. The last time we had pet insurance on our previous dog, our very first claim was rejected after paying the premium for many years, we were shocked as we'd never made a claim before and she had been insured since she was a pup and had never been ill, it was a rude way to realise we'd been paying for a service we'd never be able to use and vowed not to bother with pet insurance ever again.
We decided to give pet insurance another go many years later for our new girl as we felt like t...

Trupanion has a single policy, with price options varying depending on the excess you choose. You can also add on optional extra cover, in the form of Recovery and Complementary Care, and a Pet Owner Assistance Package.
Plan Features
- Trupanion’s single pet cover plan has unlimited payouts with no sub-limits. This means that the amount of money you’re able to get back for an eligible claim isn’t capped at any annual amount or at a sub-limit amount - which caps reimbursements for a specific condition.
- The plan covers 90% of eligible costs for new injuries and illnesses.
- Exclusions from coverage include pre-existing conditions, exam or consultation fees, and routine and preventative care.
- You don’t have to wait to be reimbursed, as Trupanion allows you to pay your portion of the bill at the vet’s, while paying the rest of it on the spot.
- A 30-day cooling off period allows you to cancel the plan if you change your mind. There is also no lock-in contract, so you can cancel your policy during the coverage period without continuing to be charged.
Premium and excess options
- Flexible premiums allow you to lower the cost of your monthly premiums by choosing the amount of excess you want to pay, from no excess to a $1, 000 excess.
- Policy holders also have lifetime, per condition excess. This means that once you pay the full excess amount for a condition, you don’t have to pay it again for the rest of your pet’s life
- Premiums also don’t increase because you’ve made claims on your policy, or because your pet has gotten older.
Waiting periods
- A 5-day waiting period applies for pets who have sustained an injury through an accident.
- A 30-day waiting period applies for illnesses.
Points of praise from reviewers
- A high claim approval rate gave pet owners peace of mind that they wouldn’t be left out of pocket when it came to their pet’s medical expenses.
- Claims were approved quickly and easily, which reviewers appreciated. Friendly and helpful staff were available to answer the phone and guide pet owners through the claims process. These staff even followed up with pet owners on the wellbeing of pets after a claim had been approved.
- According to reviewers, Trupanion makes good on its claim to cover 90% of costs minus excess, which is a high amount compared to other insurers.
- Reviewers liked that payments were made by Trupanion directly to the vet, as this meant they weren’t left out of pocket.
