Unimpressed - $650 to move a studio flat
Disappointed. I was moving from a one bedroom apartment with lift access and loading dock, to a ground floor studio 15mins drive away. I move about once a year, and believed this should have been a relatively smooth move. My belongings filled up less than half of the small truck, and i had boxes categorised and numbered... The movers were punctual, but moved at a snail pace. I drove ahead to the new address, and thought they got lost? Then they couldn't decide where to park so despite my directions and instructions they wasted more time driving...around the block. I had the impression they were working slow on purpose. $650, 3hrs total. For a studio size flat, 15min drive... i cant imaging what a full house would cost. I didn’t want to rush them, as i also wanted my things secured and transported safely, but then i discovered my chest of drawers was damaged in the move. So overall pretty unimpressed.
No care taken and late arrival.
The booking process was smooth and they were able to accommodate my request at relative short notice which was good.
However, on the day they arrived late, were uncontactable and seemed rushed. We had moved nearly all of our 4 bedroom house ourselves and only left the bulky items for them to move (fridge couch, washing machine, dryer, elliptical and treadmill). During the process of removing the fridge, they banged it multiple times against the wall and actually smashed a hole in an external pillar of the rental I was vacating. When I asked ...if the insurance will cover the repair, they said no, it only covers the goods. So they are at no fault for any damage to the property. They then struggled with the treadmill and dropped it a couple of times. This caused the arms to shear off the treadmill and it is now unusable. Insurance claim has been submitted, but so far nothing has come back. Our couches arrived with big black marks and the removalists insisted this came from our other furniture, rather than anything in the truck or on their hands. Luckily for us we managed to clean it after several attempts. Overall a very disappointing move. If they had taken more care with our possessions we wouldn't be stuck with broken furniture, damaged goods and having to repair the damage to the rental they caused. I have moved many times due to my career and this has been the worst experience of them all. Judging by the positive reviews, we must have been unlucky with our crew.
If you need a fast and efficient move, look elsewhere
Moved from a studio apartment to another studio apartment 1 suburb away. Move started on time but my 2 men had no ‘hustle’. I had few boxes and furniture but they were so slow I lost my move-in lift booking at my new residence. What should’ve taken less than around 1 hour to pack into their truck, took over 2.5 hours. Next time will book a Goget and move it all myself for less than $600 for the 3 hours I was charged. Only pro was the men were careful with my items, nothing broken in my move.

No protecting of belongings - service poor
2/11: I had a small move today; Only 1 lot of bedroom furniture, some plants and two dozen boxes. Only moving a short distance (8km) 15 minute drive. Move started on time however took longer (2.5 hours) due to the poor, wet weather & the fact the truck was parked out across the street & up a few houses. I am sure this was a ploy to have the move take longer. As before confirming whether they would reverse the truck up the driveway, they wanted to see how much I had to move. The movers may not have wanted a long unpaid break before their 11am jo...b?!?! Although I instructed the movers to reverse down the driveway on numerous occasions, there was not a single attempt to try or do so. They could have been more sheltered from the rain & the truck within 1-2 metres from the front door. Job would have also been done in half the time. Unfortunately, my goods were transported with no attempts to protect them & very little care taken (many drops & obvious dragging). Blankets piled high up in the truck not used and no plastic covers. After signing off, paying the extra 1.5 hours & then returning in to start unpacking & setting things up I discovered saturated boxes, wooden bed head scratches & chipped, wet wooden furniture & my mattress wet (a large saturated panel), with tears & dirty scuffs too. The mattress was put in the truck when the rain had briefly stopped and most boxes were saturated at their bases. Therefore, truck may not be water tight and or have leaks or also when carrying & wheeling the goods all the way out to the truck puddles were not avoided. I did send an email to the complaints line after I was instructed to do so from their head office, tried calling & texting the two men who moved my belongings and also messaged the company via their Facebook. I did believe I had chosen the right company. Close to 5 star rating on most review sites and referred to me by friends. Laura (Melbourne) UPDATE 3/11: I spoke to someone at head office & they listened & have someone from claims calling me back on Monday. I thank this customer service team for listening and investigating as much as they could on a weekend. I also received an email from someone in the (I think) Melbourne payments office & they were also forwarding on my correspondence for the claims department to look into. UPDATE 16/11: Claims have come up with a settlement figure supposedly the current market value of the mattress. No mention of reimbursing me for the cost (or part cost) of the far from professional move (regardless of the damage), which they admitted was negligent. I am also a bit perplexed how they think you can apply depreciation to a mattress. Secondhand mattresses are worth nothing & taken to the tip. I need to replace my mattress with a new one; which is just over double the settlement offer. At the end of the day they are prepared to give me the money I have already paid to the company back. I am still waiting for a fairer solution.
Disappointed repeat customer
Having used TMAAT last year with complete satisfaction (the team was significantly faster than we expected), as had a friend in 2017, we employed them again this year. Unfortunately, the same team was not available. The new team seemed inexperienced and not physically up to the task, taking much longer. Fortunately, the landlord accepted some minor damage to a door jamb, that really shouldn't have occurred. Our take home message? I would get a firm quote next time, and NOT rely on an hourly rate. Looking at other comments on this site and...reviewing our experiences, it seems 'pot luck' on how good the team is. Last year's team moved (furniture only from) a six bedroom house to four separate locations around Sydney, this year's (furniture + six already packed cardboard cartons) a two bedroom house to two locations, in nearly the same time overall (just under four hours vs five).
Have a back up plan. Take a close look at their logo, coz that's how it feels.
My wife and I booked Two men and a truck to move us from our 1 bedroom apartment.
We have a baby and a toddler - So we thought it might be a good way for us to remove some of the stress that comes with moving.
We had ourselves ready. I've taken the day off from running my 1 man business, fridge off, kids beds packed, along with clothes and most of their nappies - ready to pull the trigger. My wife takes off to the new location with kids in tow (on a nice hot canberra day) thinking these guy aren't going to be long.
Little did we kno...w that the book time slot allocated to us (11-1) would turn into at we'll be there at 1230 to disregard that, it won't be til 4/430........ummmm we're running late make it 530. My wife and kids have been waiting at the new place, no food nappies running low. Tired and exhausted, stress levels high Well two men and a truck (literally) do arrive at 530 and park out on the grass in front of the complex that the Body Corp is super keen about, I say you should not park there fellas, you'll get your butt kicked - response 'ehhhh, it's the end of the day'
We used this service to move our heavy items 100m up the road. The load was small as we had already moved most items ourselves and only left the really large items we couldn’t lift or carry. Based upon previous experience with moving house I estimated we would fall well within the minimum 4 hour charge. The two young boys they sent out were very pleasant and careful. Its a shame the truck was poorly stocked and we had to loan them our own strapping and padding. The hydraulic tail lift on the truck was broken so it took longer to load and unload...the truck. One of the boys was also very new and had to be trained on the job. When you’re charging a customer by the hour its poor form to send inexperienced workers and faulty equipment. They didn’t even had a decent trolley. When we complained about the time it took the company fobbed us off, despite providing their staff with inadequate equipment. I would not use or recommend them.
