A no nonsense (and no frills), entry level home system
I’d tried those eBay systems before. Some were good, some were bad, some were…to be honest I don’t know how they managed to sell.
The issue with buying a CCTV system is that you need a solution that provides a recorder, a web interface, and all the gear to install it – many of these don’t have this and are reliant on batteries which isn’t a very good permanent solution.
And then, the second issue is installing the damn thing, which means crawling around in roof spaces running cables!
This Uniden GDVR2440 system sorts most of that out ...by providing everything you need in one box, all you need to do then is install it. Or pay someone to do it… For $399, you get 4 cameras, a 500 GB recorder with a native system to allow you to play back recordings, and a web interface. There’s a neat app you can install on your phone (Android or iPhone only) which allows you to logon from anywhere and see what is going on back home. However, this will only work if you have the internet at home (and let’s face it, who doesn’t these days?) because the system comes with an Ethernet cable to plug your system’s recorder into your router to enable this feature. Setting it all up is simple and literally plug and play. If I can do it, you can!
