A perfect niche tool
I am crap with a hand plane. I don't have the biofeedback to maintain an angle throughout a stroke. That makes it difficult and frustrating to plane the edge of a board square. Doubly so if the edges being planed are for bookmatching. A few weeks ago I started building a bookcase from salvaged Redgum. There was a lot of edge joining to be done and I wanted it accurate. Even after slow passed over the buzzer there were blade scallops so the edges had to be planed. I didn't really want to outlay $200+ on another tool but bit the bullet and did s...o. I am very glad I did. It is an excellent tool. It only does one thing but boy does it do it well. Everything about Veritas tools is superb. The design, casting, machining and finish. This tool fits beautifully in my hand and just glides along the timber taking the finest shavings and leaving the timber accurately dressed. If you have the need for a tool like this, I cannot recommend it highly enough. It is very much a single purpose niche tool but one you will enjoy using and owning until you pop your clogs.
