Product not up to expectation.
In comparison to the fifty year old Victa that this replaces, it is heavier, of poor quality, difficult to operate and does not cut as well in the same conditions. On the plus side, the engine does start easily and runs well.
In hindsight, I should have left it in the shop.

Poor engineering - wheel clip broken and Victa wont cover under warranty!
Lodged a support ticket regarding a broken wheel clip for a machine during normal operation for warranty and was outrightly rejected by Victa based on photos sent. I was informed that the clip cant be covered under warranty because the mower wasn't maintained. I quote their words from their email "It's clear that due to the lack of clearing the lawn clippings that are trapped in the wheels among other part of the mower that this has happened"
Really?? They expect us to clear little lawn clippings stuck within the wheels of the mower so that their fragile parts don't break!!!
Very poor customer service from Victa, a brand I trusted for years.

Caveat Emptor - one needs to be enterprising, and mechanically orientated in order to operate.
I have used the VICTA Classic Cut 18" lawnmower for about 2 seasons. This lawnmower is fitted with the Briggs & Stratton 500E Series Rapid Start engine. It's a basic lawnmower and from my experience, does the job pretty well. However, there are a few caveats. The VICTA owner's manual, P12 under CLEANING, states the mower can ONLY tilted with the handle down and the FRONT wheels off the ground. And, NEVER to tilt this lawnmower with the REAR wheels off the ground. Doing this can cause the oil to leak out, contaminate the fuel and damage the air ...filter. (I have no idea why VICTA claim engine oil would damage the foam air cleaner as one has to lightly oil with engine oil anyway.) Apparently, engine oil will saturate the foam air filter by flowing through the carburetor / breather pipe. If left tilted the wrong way, oil will eventually drain from the engine. On P15 it tells you NOT to lay the lawnmower (4 stroke models) on its side - probably for the same reasons. The problem for owner/operators is that this makes for tedious removal / replacement of cutting blades, cleaning and servicing. The other issue I have is that VICTA believe they are beyond reproach. While they supply a operator manual, they conveniently or otherwise fail to include basic service component details. There are no spark plug, air filter or even replacement blade specifications in this manual. They then add insult by stating that ONLY genuine VICTA parts are to be used. They also recommend all maintenance, repairs, and inspections are to be carried out by a VICTA Authorized Service Centre, which Bunnings do not do. Yet Bunnings have near-exclusive rights to promote and sell this model lawnmower. Given this scenario, one may as well buy a lawnmower from ALDI - at least they are transparent and unpretentious as to what, and how they sell. It also appears that the genuine VICTA replacement blades, sold by Bunnings, are of poor quality, losing their edge and wearing out a lot faster than the OEM (original) fitted part. While most of the assembly bolts on the lawnmower are METRIC, the blade mounting bolts are an enigma. A metric M13 socket is too small, M14 socket only fits halfway onto the nut while a M15 socket is too big. Correct size is a 9/16 IMPERIAL. Caveat Emptor - one needs to be pretty enterprising, and mechanically orientated in order to operate the VICTA CLASSIC CUT series lawn mower.

This model is trash unless you have a small yard with short grass
I have extensively used this mower for over a year now.
My thoughts are it’s more of unit for small lawns and short grass it will do the job well.
It is definitely not ideal for large yards and longer grass.
The grass seems to get caught under the blades I would spender your money on a larger more powerful unit

Lol do not waste your time with this POS
Don't know if this is updated model as the problem doesn't mirror the problems of previous reviews but I bought this mower couple months ago only used 3 times
Mower works great for first half an hour but after that it starts rhythmically sputtering like the fuel line is clogged or something wrong with the carby.
New fuel new oil cleaned up etc, still does it. Again, only after about half an hour of use. Its like it wasn't built to tolerate mowing large yards.
I had it replaced on warranty from bunnos and used even cleaner high octane fuel and a fresh bottle of SAE-30 oil.
Same bollocks again. This mower is a POS. Don't waste your time on it like i did. Victa have gone in the toilet.

Most poorly designed junk you will ever buy
As per title, everything that can come loose, or break has done, the pull cord, return spring, coil lead even fell out, leaks fuel, won’t start, allergic to water, will never buy another Victa product in my life
Leaks half of sump all in 20mins dont buy
Brought this mower from Bunnings and leaked oil from air cleaner from day one.thought it was oil from the air cleaner so rang it out and put a little oil in it to trap dust.everytime I mow the lawn 50ml of oil leaks out of air cleaner all over the deck and drips onto the ground. The oil is comming from the sump when operating and conning out of air cleaner?Bunnings don't want to know about it and said I have to take it to a Victa dealer for warranty.Rang two dealers to book it in and they were rude and were not interested at all because I diddnt...purchase from them,so I'm stuck with this mower that uses more oil than a two stroke engine,so they say poor man pays twice....take my advice and spend a little more money and buy your mower from an authorised dealer and don't buy a Victa
Purchased in October 2019 at Bunnings for $399.00.
Leaked all of it's oil and stopped working.
Brand new, followed all setup instructions to the letter.
It struggled with any grass over ankle height.
Lots of rattling and shaking.
Leaked out all of it's oil within a few minutes and then stopped working.
For $400 you'd expect a lot more, not to mention a product that actually works.
I'd highly recommend buying a different brand.

Victa's value compromise
The fact a lot of people think this is a great mower speaks to Australia's low expectations of quality.
It's functional, but obvioulsy very cheaply made - my concern is that Victa have gone below a fit-for-purpose standard in saving cost on this line. For example, the flimsy plastic throttle control that breaks off when you use it - how hard can it be to make a simple part like that?
When using it I heard a lot of rattling and metallic bumping such that it felt like it was going to fly apart; not very confidence inspiring. And no, it didn't cut very well (underpowered) or catch very well.
What a piece of crap. Might be alright for the 5 metre strip on the driveway or retirement home square but anything more it is crap. Leaves most of the grass on the lawn. The small hole from blade to catcher blocked up in seconds and from then on grass stayed where it was. Don't mow near buildings or leave the door open to said building. Grass splats up the side of the house, over footpaths, in open doorways. Going past the skip my $500 lawnmower got chucked in there. Caused an argument about my attitude that lasted for days.
Victa summer classic
It cuts ok but it blocks up at the back if the grass is little wet it's only good if it's dry.and it's hard to maneuver its pretty heavy and if you want to change the blades really hard to take off I gave up on it it's a crappy mower broke down first day.
November 12th 2017 Update: This is the worst mower I used doesn't like picking up moist grass
When I bought it the wheels fell off the coil was faulty. After 5 months it stopped completely due to faulty coil.it doesn't like picking up moist grass at all it's rubbish if you ask me and too much maintenance on it spark plug don't last long don't buy sponge filter gets dirty pretty quickly
Not as good as previous model
Bought this to replace the previous model which I donated to family. Wish I had kept the previous model as started first time every time. Had a fuel primer and worked each time. This model does not have the fuel primer and takes about 3 attempts to get to work which is disappointing. Mows ok when finally working and good catcher
Victa brand name destroyed by sale to B&S
We purchased one of these this afternoon at 2pm. it failed to start. It will be returned to Bunnings tomorrow for replacement. Hopefully we can get one of the 10% of B&S Engines that work. The Victa name has been grossly degraded by the sale to American Crap producer Briggs and Stratton!!
Victa Australian made ha ha just a joke
Do not buy this lawn mower. I bought the classic from Bunnings in October 2016 and already the wheels are bald. After a drive to Bunnings to discuss the problem they informed me I need to go to a lawn mower company for complaints. I spoke to the man who called Victa who informed me that tyres are not under warranty. I mower less than 6 months old doing little work is just a bucket of junk. Once again do not touch this company made in usa tyres no idea where. If you want a good cheap mower buy a Sani.
March 31st 2017 Update: first time i sa...w tyres going bald on grass rubbish rubbish as the title tells you and guess what? Victa does not want o know about it.the mower claims to me made in usa so what it is rubbish no power parts on the cover keeps falling of. guess what victa does not want to know about it so why deal with them.My main complaint was the tyres completely bald ad I am mowing a very small yard . I bought it from Bunnings but they do not handle the warranty issues. I waste time going to the registered warranty dealer who was very nice made the call but Mr Victa said No Play Once again you have been warned.
what a disappointment!!
been repaired 3 times... used only 12 times in 2 years..
currently dead as it gets oil in the carburettor and it just wont go...
worst mower ever... I have had a Victor 2 stroke before and it was excellent... very reluctant to buy another as I live in a regional area and cant get any support from Victor
Questions & Answers
I have asked many questions and your members do not answer. It is a hoax.
We are not Victa members. Why ask a review site when you can get exact answers from Victa or Bunnings directly ?
Why call it a review site then.
Because this is where people who bought a product can review it and offer their opinion.
It is not a site where people who work for or sell particular products come to answer questions.
Occasionally someone from Victa, or from a retailer who sells Victa might be here but mostly it's just us people who bought one.
Why don't your victa members answer.
Are bunnings victa mowers made in nsw kemps creek,or china. Do they have ballbearing wheels and pressed steel chassis,as victa dealers say they are rubbish and won't touch them.
The one I bought a couple of months ago seems to have been assembled in China. I would guess the actual pressed steel mower body was made in China. It seems to be powder coated. Compared to the Rover I had for the last 20 years, that rusted through after about 5 years and I repaired by bolting on various pieces of steek and aluminium for the next 15 years, I'd guess this one might last about the same (with similar repairs).
The mower handle is not as sturdy as my old Rover, but I guess I could make a new one if it dies.
I'm assuming of course that the little Briggs and Stratton 500e might last 20 years like the B & S Quantum 5 did!
Overall, this one feels like it might, and the Easy Start function works nicely.
Press the primer bulb 3 times to flood the carby.
Set the throttle to half way.
Pull the starter cord Gently, once to get some fuel vapour into the cylinder.
Pull the starter cord Gently again to ignite the fuel vapour.
Very occasionally - I might need to pull the cord Gently a third time, usually if I do something stupid like try to start it with the blade in deepish grass.
