Cleanly cuts lawn
Lightweight and ergonomic
Economical to run
Awkwardly placed oil port
Product not up to expectation.
In comparison to the fifty year old Victa that this replaces, it is heavier, of poor quality, difficult to operate and does not cut as well in the same conditions. On the plus side, the engine does start easily and runs well.
In hindsight, I should have left it in the shop.

Caveat Emptor - one needs to be enterprising, and mechanically orientated in order to operate.
I have used the VICTA Classic Cut 18" lawnmower for about 2 seasons. This lawnmower is fitted with the Briggs & Stratton 500E Series Rapid Start engine. It's a basic lawnmower and from my experience, does the job pretty well. However, there are a few caveats. The VICTA owner's manual, P12 under CLEANING, states the mower can ONLY tilted with the handle down and the FRONT wheels off the ground. And, NEVER to tilt this lawnmower with the REAR wheels off the ground. Doing this can cause the oil to leak out, contaminate the fuel and damage the air ...filter. (I have no idea why VICTA claim engine oil would damage the foam air cleaner as one has to lightly oil with engine oil anyway.) Apparently, engine oil will saturate the foam air filter by flowing through the carburetor / breather pipe. If left tilted the wrong way, oil will eventually drain from the engine. On P15 it tells you NOT to lay the lawnmower (4 stroke models) on its side - probably for the same reasons. The problem for owner/operators is that this makes for tedious removal / replacement of cutting blades, cleaning and servicing. The other issue I have is that VICTA believe they are beyond reproach. While they supply a operator manual, they conveniently or otherwise fail to include basic service component details. There are no spark plug, air filter or even replacement blade specifications in this manual. They then add insult by stating that ONLY genuine VICTA parts are to be used. They also recommend all maintenance, repairs, and inspections are to be carried out by a VICTA Authorized Service Centre, which Bunnings do not do. Yet Bunnings have near-exclusive rights to promote and sell this model lawnmower. Given this scenario, one may as well buy a lawnmower from ALDI - at least they are transparent and unpretentious as to what, and how they sell. It also appears that the genuine VICTA replacement blades, sold by Bunnings, are of poor quality, losing their edge and wearing out a lot faster than the OEM (original) fitted part. While most of the assembly bolts on the lawnmower are METRIC, the blade mounting bolts are an enigma. A metric M13 socket is too small, M14 socket only fits halfway onto the nut while a M15 socket is too big. Correct size is a 9/16 IMPERIAL. Caveat Emptor - one needs to be pretty enterprising, and mechanically orientated in order to operate the VICTA CLASSIC CUT series lawn mower.

Feeling quietly optimistic
We bought this mower (881887) 6 months ago, we were skeptical having read reviews about the poor positioning of the air filter etc, but couldn't find another suitable option easily available at the time. We've found the mower generally cuts and mulches as well as we would hope, doesn't seem to chew through fuel, and starts easily first time, every time. We did notice though that after only the first ever use (maybe 20mins of mowing on flat and nearly-flat lawn) that the air filter was indeed full of oil already, this particularly annoyed me a...s I'd raised this issue with the staff member at Bunnings before purchasing the mower and he disregarded it saying it wasn't true. As far as mowers go though if the air filter is the only issue then I am very pleased with our purchase.

VICTA Classic Cut Lawnmower
Bought this VICTA Classic Cut Lawnmower 2ndHand which would probably be around 1-2 years old and was told that it wasn't really used that often since the first owner had a small yard and I will tell you this straight out I do not know why there are so many negative reviews on here for it but this machine is bloody awesome I have a fairly large backyard and I changed the blades not to the ones they recommend but a pair of Victa 18" Mower Swing Blade & Bolt Set
Model Number CA09434B and they fit on Blade Plate no worries and I purchased them from...

Another happy camper
I’m now 72 and been using Victa lawn mowers since a teenager. This one is the best ever. Lightweight, easy start, quiet, excellent easy to remove and attach catcher. Well priced. Ideal for my 200m2 sloping buffalo lawn. Clean cut. Comfortable grips. Simple controls and easy to manoeuvre. Thanks Victa.

This actually works really well with taller grass and decent sized lawns
I don't know what old mate in the past review was talking about, maybe they tried the mow straight after rain?
I have a pretty big yard and the grass was getting fairly unruly as well when I first used this mower and it did a very commendable job!
It didn't chug through the fuel quickly, it didn't conk out with the taller grass, the catcher only had to be emptied a couple of times on the mow, and it was really easy to use.
If you have acreage you might want to pick up a more expensive lawn mower/ride-on mower, but for most anything else that can be done with a lawn mower, this one will be more than acceptable!
I even bought this second hand too so it was a real score on my part!

Value for Money Cuts Well
Purchased at Bunnings today, nice light and easy to handle. I have a big block with buffalo grass and went straight through no issue. Filled tank up and did entire block still had 1/2 tank left so very reasonable on fuel usage. The mulch option is very nice and works a treat cuts grass very fine. Only fault is does not tell you how much oil to use, so filled up between markers (a quick edit use around Oil: SAE 30 - 440ml Capacity) and let sit for 5 mins. The Oil filler is in a awkward spot. Invest in a oil remover kit ( a Briggs & Stratton one...around $30:00 from Bunnings). This Will save you allot of heart ache as you have to tip mover to do oil change, with the kit you don't and its clean way to do the oil change. A little noisy but started first time every time, after stopping it a few times.

Mine was bulletproof
I treated mine like rubbish for years. I was always going to get around to changing the oil... next time. I know how to treat a mower and yet time pressures and hassles got in the way. So almost four years in (I have a very large rear lawn and also front lawn) - I checked the dip stick and made a pact with myself I would change the oil next holidays. I must had not secured the oil cap as while I was mowing it came off and it took me a few seconds to figure out what that liquid was spraying on the mower - it was raining oil! Anyway, lots of sear...ching as I had lost the manual, finally this site [link removed] confirmed that I wasn't blind, there was no oil plug to drain the oil. You actually tip the engine to drain. Filled it up with new oil, started right back up. Doesn't even blow any smoke, starts every time. My son has used it too and run right over anything. If some people have trouble it must be a quality control problem because mine is bulletproof. So luck of the draw, I hit on a winner. I would buy it again, got mine from Bunnings.

Great mower well worth the price! Used on wet high thick grass and cut with no problem at all. Plastic catcher is a great feature, awesome size and easy to empty

Affordable, does the job.
A smooth running mower, it’s our first brand new mower and it’s worth the money. I have a huge amount of lawn and every 60-90 meters I have to empty the catch. Sometimes I just leave it off if the grass isn’t too long.
This takes Petrol. I wish the tank was slightly bigger as I have to fill it every time I mow the lawn, but not a big deal in the scheme of things.

Not bad eh
Bought from bunnings. Paid $399 for it. I have a 800 square meter block that's almost all yard/lawn. I can do both front and back yard on one tank. Happy with that. Quality so far is very good. Starts first pull every time for me. well worth the money paid.

Victa's value compromise
The fact a lot of people think this is a great mower speaks to Australia's low expectations of quality.
It's functional, but obvioulsy very cheaply made - my concern is that Victa have gone below a fit-for-purpose standard in saving cost on this line. For example, the flimsy plastic throttle control that breaks off when you use it - how hard can it be to make a simple part like that?
When using it I heard a lot of rattling and metallic bumping such that it felt like it was going to fly apart; not very confidence inspiring. And no, it didn't cut very well (underpowered) or catch very well.
This mower I bought to replace my 36 year old 2 stroke Victa. I wanted a 4 stroke. This is so much quieter and easier to push. Starts 1st go and cute well. So far very reliable.. it's a Victa!

So far, so good
Bought a Victa 'Classic Cut' with Briggs and Stratton 4-stroke engine to replace my ~12 y.o. Victa 2-stroke. Needed assembly, and I found the instructions inadequate with no mention of the bottom part of the handle, which I put together by trial and error. I looked for the petrol tap, choke control and petrol injector, all required to start the old 2-stroke, and found none of these. Put in oil according to instructions, and found the dip stick hit the sides of the tube on the way down, such that you needed to let the oil drain in for 30 m...inutes before you could see how much oil is in the sump. The oil port, half under the starter pulley, seems not well placed. Found the mower started on the third pull, and have now used it five times, starting easily each time. The machine purrs, unlike the roar of the old 2-stroke. The catcher is essentially identical to the old 12 y.o. model, so I now have two catchers. The new one still has the annoying pockets on either side of the entry, which catch hard-to empty grass - these would be better if sealed off. The new mower cuts and throws well into the catcher, which I guess is a function of new blades. The plastic tyres on the wheels look like they may not last the distance. I will now have to face up to changing the oil, which does not look to be the easiest with the machine needing upending to drain old oil out of the inlet hole. I would have preferred a 2-stroke, which seemed a more powerful engine, and which had a choke and a petrol injector that you could play with if having trouble getting the engine to start. If the present model won't start, I have no idea what to do.
