Good bonus points but much better Velocity earning cards out there
Bonus points offered was 20,000 points each month for first 3 months which is awesome. However the card has a capped earn rate for the top rate, then reduces for subsequent spends, which is not great. Limited insurances offered with the card as well.
Nice card to collect Velocity Points
This credit card gives you a good Velocity Point for every dollar you spend. You can just link your Velocity number and the points will be transferred to your Velocity membership each month. Very nice and easy! I signed up when there was a promotion to get bonus Velocity Points if I spent more than $1500, and also I got $129 credit to spend with Virgin Australia and I only need to pay $64 annual fee. I haven't used this card overseas or to do balance transfer so I cannot comment on that but I use it for my daily spend as a quick way to accumulate Velocity Points.
Apply when bonus is on offer
Got this card as a standby for an upcoming overseas trip. The overseas fees are somewhat high compared to other cards. As this is a back up card only I thought that the sign up bonus points made the application worth it.

The card is pretty basic, but the current offer for bonus points is pretty decent for the reduced annual fee in the first year. The application process was pretty quick and I received the card not long after.
The card I received is suppose to have paywave, but it doesn't work, the terminal won't even register it so I have to insert the chip every time.
It doesn't work with Apple or Google Pay, which sucks.
The Virgin Money website and app are very underwhelming.
In a nutshell, it's a throwaway card that I wouldn't bother keeping past the first year.
Can be useful, but not a card to keep
Another branded card which has Citibank behind the scenes. This means poor customer service and often-bumpy application experiences.
I think the only time to bother with this card is when there is a particularly good signup bonus (like right now - Oct 2019). The Virgin Australia cards have complicated bonuses usually - spend X amount each month for Y months and if you meet these requirements you'll get a certain set of bonus points for each of those months. I did manage to get some extra points because during the application process they requ...ested additional info and then said if I supplied the info within 24 hours I'd get 5,000 extra points. Of course, it didn't arrive into my account until I reminded them about it a few months later... The earn rate is poor (0.66 points per $, and capped at $1500, after which the rate is even lower, so don't go using the card too much!). Not a useful card for overseas spend, either. The annual fee isn't bad, and many people seem to like the flight credit (easier to use than the old flight booking that you had to call up for). Still, the credit voucher is only valid for six months after issuance, I think, so you have to watch the calendar a bit.
I haven't use my card overseas yet. Its easy to transfer my balance to this card. I am quite satisfied with the rewards. It is simple easy to accumulate points and simple to redeem them.
I went for the bonus points promotion which was my main focus. They also provided a flight voucher (domestic). The points you gain afterwards are not really comparable but a bonus.

New features are growing on me
This is a great card in general, offering lounge passes, and Virgin flight credit ($149). I preferred the old system of a flight redemption.
Never had a problem using it, and the Virgin Money app helps track usage and bills.
The frequent flyer reward points per dollar are on par with more expensive (annual fee) cards, and are linked directly to your Velocity account. Likewise the lounge passes are linked directly to your Velocity account, so easy to claim at the airport lounge door.
Only downside is the flight credit needs to be ordered in advance, and is issued as a gift card. So great if you know you are travelling in the next 6 months, but not so great if you notice a sale fare come up and want to grab it quickly.
Velocity has proven to be a big disappointment
Have travelled a lot with virgin Australia. Status points on domestic flights are very limited making them useless. 2 lounge passes are only valid for the domestic lounge, which is useless if you travel mostly international.
Often is difficult to know what rewards will be received as they are NEVER DISCLOSED until after flight..They should be shown as part of the booking.
Velocity do not reward virgin passengers as they should. Seems to be more oriented towards shopping then air travel rewards..I have found them somewhat difficult to deal with..
Better points than Qantas
I prefer this card than the qantas FF credit card as you earn points quicker and there are less points requred to redeem for flights on velocity compared to Qantas FF. Also Qantas charges very high airport taxes and fees on their award flights compared to Virgin.
Application and customer service fine
I have had this card for over 3 years the initial application process was normal with around a 10 day turn around time. In the entire time have had to call maybe 3 or 4 times and each time was fine issue was resolved quickly.
An OK Visa card for Velocity earn
Have had this card for about 3 years now and haven't had any major problems with this card, although the Virgin Money website is a little bit clunky it does everything I need it to do. After several attempts they gave up trying to upsell me other products (especially life insurance). Replacement cards have been ordered and are delivered in the promised timeframes. The auto point sweep to the Virgin Velocity account is monthly and is reliable. The sign-up Velocity points bonus was honoured (unlike some other credit cards whom you have to chase t...o get the sign-on bonus honoured!). Haven't had to use the call centre a lot but has. I have found them generally quick to answer and although obviously an overseas based call centre have always been polite and are able to address issues raised in the phone call. Always pay the balance every month so do not pay interest - I expect that the interest rates charged are extremely uncompetitive. For places that don't accept Amex I have found this to be a reasonable Visa card product. Recently they have rolled out the ubiquitous 'get whacked with foreign transaction fees if the merchant uses an overseas bank' with the usual disclaimer that customers have no way of detecting if a merchant uses an overseas bank until the transaction is processed, so its essentially a secret undisclosed 'surprise fee', but most of the major banks have already implemented the same changes so look at a 29 degrees card or similar if you want to use this online or where foreign merchant banks are becoming more common i.e. Google Play, Amazon, Goupon Australia and many hotel and airline booking sites
Disappointed with the 2-4-1 ticket deal review
The included deal of getting 4 flights a year with 2 tickets for the price of 1 has been changed to a much less attractive offer since the end of last year. I'm pretty disappointed because that isn't what I signed up for. Now the only part of the ticket that is half price is the base airline ticket fee, which doesn't equate to 50% off your ticket like it used to.
Brisbane to Melbourne flights for May are $165 with Virgin...
Virgin with 2-4-1 offer costs $441 (with all taxes and booking and service fees).
So that is not too bad, $220.50 p/p...
Application process is a nightmare!
The initial step of 'instant' pre approval was fine - they called my workplace within the hour, great! I receive an e-mail asking for some ID documents to send - no problem - that's where to process becomes tricky. They want you to post or fax the documents - but they email you to ask for them? It's 2013! Who uses a fax machine or an envelope?!
So I neatly PDF the documents they asked for and replied to the e-mail that came through. In the meantime you get your first call from them making sure you know what to do. My e-mail bounces back, I ...call and get given a different e-mail address - it bounces back! I call back and get a third e-mail address - it finally works. Whilst they're taking 24 hours to open your mail, you get e-mails every few hours asking for the documents you've already sent and a text message at 7am on a Saturday morning asking for the bloomin' documents again! Then, when you finally think you're done - you get a third call saying thanks for your documents but now they need your Medicare card too and when you point out that wasn't mentioned in their original request they send you another generic e-mail with a completely different set of documents they need. Seems a bit shambolic to be honest and I haven't even got the card yet! The interest free period seems good Call centre team that can't give you the right answer first time and too many calls, texts and e-mails
